Rumiko Takahashi’s Inuyasha is a tale that spans several anime seasons and hundreds of manga chapters. For many, it is their first exposure to the world of anime and manga or Japanese culture as a whole. Needless to say, it has left a deep impact on plenty of young minds.
But plenty of Shonen series from the same era did not age well. Due to the constantly evolving nature of anime and the world at large, plenty of classics can feel outdated. Some of the genre’s best picks have not aged well, with writing that feels out of touch. But Inuyasha has beaten the odds even though it is not perfect.
Why Inuyasha aged like fine wine
Firstly, let’s acknowledge the fact that Inuyasha isn’t the gold standard of anime/manga and has its own faults. It features a few questionable relationships and some uncomfortable moments between characters.

In the world of Shonen manga, the bane of fans’ existence is unnecessary filler episodes. These are extra content within the anime adaptation that weren’t originally included in the manga. One Piece, Naruto, and Bleach are the franchises most notorious for implementing too much into their adaptations since it would outpace the source.
There are, however, a few hidden gems that deserve more recognition for their amazing filler episodes. Their percentage of filler episodes isn’t too high, and when an episode occurs, it only enriches the storyline rather than being a useless addition. Inuyasha is the prime example of a Shonen series that did it right.
During its release, Inuyasha was incredibly popular for its unique storyline, combined with strong characters, and how it caters to several audiences. The filler episodes are rarely a distraction from the main storyline, too. What makes the additional content worth watching?

You can always count on Japanese stories to create some wild settings, but Cells At Work! caught the world off guard. The story showcases a society in which individuals from different sectors often band together in order to fight a common enemy, and the twist is that all of that takes place... inside your body. The manga series was adapted into a Japanese live-action movie, and Netflix announced this week that you will be able to check it out on the platform starting on June 13.
Much like Inside Out personifies the emotions of its main character, Cells At Work! takes the story to the microscopic level and showcases the daily battles that white blood cells and red blood cells fight in order to keep us healthy and defeat body invaders. The fun part is that the movie transforms it all into a massive action flick, with a Power Rangers vibe...

The anime medium has grown significantly over the last thirty years, and many popular series have received new adaptations since their original releases. Several remakes of nineties-era anime have been produced within the last decade, including Rurouni Kenshin and Sailor Moon among other classics. However, even modern titles have been adapted in favor of enhanced animation and tighter storylines within a decade of debuting.
Anime reboots sometimes draw criticism for failing to translate what the original series captures, but the best adaptations enhance the stories fans already know and love. Many anime series are adapted for television before their source manga are complete, sometimes ending great stories on a clumsy note without guidance for the plot. Remaking a series creates opportunities to deliver the ending intended by the author, enhance the animation, and cut filler for a cleaner, more captivating story.

The 30th anniversary should be a grand celebration for any series. Although, the same can’t be said about Rurouni Kenshin, given its creator’s controversial track record. A few years back, Nobuhiro Watsuki landed himself in some serious controversies. His actions were severe enough to have charges placed against him.

Wit Studio has showcased on many occasions that it shouldn’t be pushed to the side in terms of animation and storytelling with how many successful projects it has helmed. From Spy x Family and Suicide Squad Isekai to Attack on Titan and Vinland Saga; there is no shortage of quality within the animation studio. It has been handling multiple projects in one go and on almost all occasions, there is little compromise.

It is coming to Hollywood’s attention just how well live-action adaptations can be made and how profitable they are if they are done right. The Last of Us, One Piece, Rurouni Kenshin, and Alita: Battle Angel are only a few to be named. If the approach isn’t wrong, neither would the execution and response. This is also something many are hoping to see with Destin Daniel Cretton’s Naruto film.

As I wrote in the anime review, “Golden Kamuy” is a rather different shonen title, which stands out by focusing on an Ainu character, while highlighting the language, culture, and customs of the indigenous people, supervised by Hiroshi Nakagawa, an Ainu language linguist from Chiba University.

Bill Kong is cautious, vastly experienced and has an impeccable reputation as a key gateway between Hollywood and China to maintain. He is someone far more likely to deadpan than gush.
So, to hear him getting into high gear with a pitch for his bucket list martial arts movie project “The Furious” immediately invites comparison with previous Kong-produced action pictures including Oscar-winner “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon,” “Jet Li’s Fearless” or the Zhang Yimou-directed “Hero.”
“I’m going to do an action movie that rocks the world. And to prove that Hong Kong still has something to give the film industry. I want to show that Asian people can still make an action movie that is better than the rest of the world,” Kong tells Variety.
Significantly, “The Furious” is a project made by Hong Kong, rather than made in Hong Kong. Kong’s Edko Films is financing and producing.

Each new episode of Shōgun raises the stakes, deepens the political intrigue, and brings us closer to the brink of war. It’s a description that, years ago, would have applied to Game of Thrones, a show to which Shōgun has been compared ad nauseam. It’s not an inappropriate comparison. Both tout sprawling casts, sweeping locations, political intrigue, backstabbing, and characters residing in moral gray areas, ready to surprise and disappoint. Though, it may be more apt to compare the show to Japan’s Chanbara or samurai films.
Given Shōgun’s intensity and cliffhangers, waiting a week between episodes is excruciating. Digging back into Game of Thrones or even House of the Dragon might not scratch that Shōgun itch in the long days between installments.
Instead, let’s dive into samurai epics in and around the Edo period when Ieyasu Tokugawa unified Japan and built a shogunate that ruled for more than two centuries,...

There's always a gateway or jumping off point that captures the human imagination. International sensations, for example, are the kind of thing that can be a gateway to learning new cultures and languages. A lot of good can come out of spreading a new form of media for people to enjoy. Taking risks is half the fun of enjoying art in general, and animation is absolutely no exception to that rule. Anime has boomed in the last two decades in the West and that is in no small part because of Toonami.
The Toonami programming block on Cartoon Network in the late '90s and early '00s was a cultural touchstone point that deserves to be studied more closely. Anime shifted from being a niche hobby that was supplied by fandubs and overseas courier services to something that has brought together many people from many different walks of life.

In the latest surge of live action adaptations that Netflix seems to lead, either in movie or series format, an essentially forgotten anime and manga from the 90s, was not exactly something that was expected, considering that the rest were based on all time favorites like “One Piece” and “Rurouni Kenshin” for example. It turns out, though, that the manga being one of the best selling of all times played a crucial role, and that is how we ended up with a version of “Yu Yu Hakusho”.

Veteran animator Terumi Nishii is pressing for better conditions in Japan's anime industry, alleging that full-time workers are currently "more like slaves."
Nishii has worked in anime for over 20 years, contributing to the production of popular shows like JoJo's Bizarre Adventure and Rurouni Kenshin. In an interview with Anime News Network, Nishii explained that there are a number of major issues plaguing anime studios across the board, such as a lack of union support, the frequent hiring of underqualified personnel and physically taxing shifts for full-time employees. Rurouni Kenshin: The Legend Ends suffered from an overly long and bloated story, prioritizing spectacle over substance, and diluted its intended epic grandeur. Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno had an overstuffed runtime and suffered from overindulgences, highlighting the risks of diminishing returns and overemphasis on grandiosity. Rurouni Kenshin set a high bar for the franchise with balanced action, charming drama, and faithful adaptation of beloved source material, effectively satisfying both purists and newcomers.
The live-action adaptations of the popular manga series Rurouni Kenshin have resulted in a memorable and captivating series. However, each installment varies in quality, offering both strong and weak entries. Based on a mid-1990s manga phenomenon, the Rurouni Kenshin films follow former assassin Kenshin Himura who now wields a reverse-bladed sword and wanders Japan seeking nonviolent atonement during the Meiji era. HBO is still best known as the progenitor of subscription television services, but that hasn't stopped HBO Max from being rebranded to just Max. Launched in 2020 as HBO Max, Max has inherited a variety of different series, many of which air on the company's related television channels.

As with any modern streaming service, Max made a concerted effort as HBO Max to flesh out its anime catalog. While the anime section in Max's library isn't the deepest, there are a few bingeworthy series that can be knocked out in a single day. Considering Warner Bros.'s history of removing content from HBO Max/Max, fans should take that day sooner rather than later.
Updated on May 31, 2023, by Kennedy King: Only time will tell if Max will change how it handles anime following HBO's rebranding, but for now, the service still offers several easy-to-consume series.

Anime reboots can sometimes be far-fetched ideas since a studio would rather make a new anime series based on a popular manga than produce a completely new version of an already poorly regarded one. If it were so simple, we could have a slew of much-needed reboots, such as Tokyo Ghoul and Rosario Vampire. The good news is that Rurouni Kenshin, a classic anime series that, despite a few shortcomings, emerged as one of the best anime shows, is getting a remake this year.
Even though the Rurouni Kenshin franchise has spanned an anime series with 94 episodes and a highly successful live-action movie series that ended in 2021 with Rurouni Kenshin: Final Chapter Part II - The Beginning, it is planning to deliver fans with another intriguing one with a rebooted version of the original.

Fans can be sure that many of the epic duels they know and love from Rurouni Kenshin will be brought to life in far better action than before. Sword duels are some of the most appealing fights in anime and manga, especially with the recent improvements in animation that have helped showcase some of the best animation that fans have ever seen.
Artoria Pendragon (Saber) vs Sasaki Kojiro (Assassin) — Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works
While their duel was kept short, Saber vs Assassin remains the best sword duel seen in the Fate franchise. Sasaki utilizes an Eastern style with his katana whereas Saber maintains a Western style with her Excalibur.

As is the tendency in Japanese cinema, particularly during the last decade, another very popular manga/anime is adapted into a live-action movie, in a trend that has produced both great films and huge blunders (Attack on Titan). Let us see what category does “Tokyo Ghoul” falls under.

Japanese animation or “anime” as it is commonly known, has been a major part of the mainstream entertainment since the 80s, when they experienced a boom in production. In the following decades, anime became a global phenomenon, and currently over 430 production companies are involved in an industry that has a total market value of $13.5 billion.
Almost exclusively based on manga, their print equivalent, anime stretch in a plethora of genres, address audiences of all age, sex, and preferences, and entail elaborate animation, despite being in their majority, at least partially hand-drawn. Here is a list with some of the best series in the category.
Just a few notes though. Each title represents the whole franchise, for example, the Monogatari title, includes Bakemonogatari, Nisemonogatari, the Evangelion one the remake etc. The descriptions and videos of those titles will be paradigms of the whole franchise. The list does not include films, just series.
