The first episode of season two of The Last of Us was mostly faithful to the second game. While episode 2, “Through the Valley,” has one storyline that is very different from the game, it also adapts one of the most divisive moments in The Last of Us Part II.

The episode opens with Abby (Kaitlyn Dever) walking through the hospital in Salt Lake. She sees a vision of herself that warns her not to open a door. “He’s dead,” she says. “Don’t go in there, his brains are on the floor.”

Abby wakes up in the lodge overlooking Jackson. The group talks of a plan to raid the city to find Joel, not having realized that the settlement was so large. Abby suggests that they ambush a patrol and scare them into giving up Joel’s location.
