Lorde’s custom Thom Browne ensemble at the Met Ball may contain hints about her forthcoming LP, Virgin. Speaking to Emma Chamberlain on the red carpet for Vogue, the singer said the gray two-piece dress is an “Easter egg” for the new music.
“This is my creation,” Lorde said. “It’s something of an Easter egg. All will be revealed. I just love the open back. To me it represents where I’m at gender-wise. I feel like a man and a woman, you know?”

Brat was Rolling Stone’s album of the year for 2024, and judging from what Lorde has been saying about Charli Xcx’s record, it was probably hers, too. “I’d been trying to express [myself] in this naked way, and then Brat came out, and she was kind of doing that from the other side of the coin almost,” Lorde told BBC Radio 1 on Wednesday.
The whole album became something like a revelation to the artist. “Brat coming out really gave me a kick in a lot of ways,” Lorde said.

Lorde has officially announced her new album: titled Virgin, it’s set for release on June 27th via Republic Records.
The project marks the New Zealand artist’s fourth album to date following 2021’s Solar Power. Speaking about Virgin in a message to fans, Lorde wrote,” The color of the album is clear. Like bathwater, windows, ice, spit. Full transparency. The language is plain and unsentimental. The sounds are the same wherever possible. I was trying to see myself, all the way through. I was trying to make a document that reflected my femininity: raw, primal, innocent, elegant, openhearted, spiritual, masculine.”
“I’m proud and scared of this album. There’s nowhere to hide. I believe that putting the deepest parts of ourselves to music is what sets us free,” she added.
In keeping with this theme, the album’s cover artwork features an X-ray scan of a pelvis with an Iud visible.

Lorde has dropped “What Was That,” the lead single from her upcoming fourth studio album and her first original solo release since 2021’s Solar Power. Since then, the New Zealand singer has hopped on the remix of Charli Xcx’s “Girl, So Confusing” and contributed a cover of “Take Me to the River” to the Talking Heads tribute album Everyone’s Getting Involved.
Set to a spare bassline and gently undulating synth, the deceptively ebullient “What Was That” finds Lorde setting a nostalgic scene in characteristically elegiac fashion: “I wear smoke like a wedding veil/Make a meal I won’t eat/Step out onto the street, alone in a sea.” Produced by Lorde, Jim-e Stack, and Dan Nigro, the track gradually builds in intensity to a cathartic release, as she unpacks the trauma of a years-long courtship: “Since I was 17, I gave you everything/Now wake from a dream.

Chappell Roan has just released her long-teased single “The Giver”; give it a listen below. Long time collaborator Dan Nigro produced and co-wrote the country track with Roan, marking the pop star’s first new release since her 2024 single, “Good Luck, Babe!”

Chappell Roan just gave fans another taste of her country-inflected song “The Giver” — this time via a retro phone number stunt. Roan, who first premiered the country-tinged track during her Saturday Night Live debut last November, offered an invite to a quirky listening party over the weekend, sharing a now-dead phone number (629-468-8646, spelling out “Hot to Go”) in an Instagram story.
The number led callers through a menu of faux services, including dentistry and plumbing, and fans sufficiently dedicated to navigating the phone tree were rewarded with three snippets of the unreleased track.

In a ceremony that alternated between subdued and sublime, reverent and rocking, the 2025 Grammys attempted to offer thoughtful tribute to the victims of the Los Angeles wildfires while also honoring the best in music. Fittingly, the biggest ovations came at the end of Sunday’s ceremony, as the gathered music royalty rose to applaud Los Angeles County firefighters, who took the stage to present the final award, and then again to celebrate Beyoncé, who claimed the night’s ultimate prize: Album of the Year.

“I told myself if I ever won a Grammy, and I got to stand up here in front of the most powerful people in music, I would demand that labels and the industry profiting millions of dollars off of artists would offer a livable wage and health care, especially to developing artists,” Roan said,...

Chappell Roan made her Grammy stage debut Sunday night when she brought the “Pink Pony Club” to the Crypto.com Arena.
Roan came out donning her signature, rhinestone-adorned cowboy hat, a matching bodysuit, cowboy boots, and gloves with bedazzled horse shoe details on them. The singer was ushered in by a rodeo of dancers, wearing clown makeup as the stage transformed into a desert in a callback to her Saturday Night Live performance of the country-fied track “The Giver.” Pink, blue, and white flags waved in background in a nod to trans rights.

Chappell Roan was a massive breakout artist in 2024, but some listeners might not know her stage name is actually an alias. As she sings about in "Pink Pony Club" and signifies with her album titled The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, Roan is a small-town girl who left it all behind to pursue her music dreams in Los Angeles. Roan's career took off when she teamed up with co-writer Dan Nigro, best known for working with Olivia Rodrigo, and opened for Rodrigo's Sour and Guts Tours and Fletcher's Girl of My Dreams Tour.
However, Roan's dreams really came to fruition during the 2024 Coachella weekend performances, which saw massive crowds doing her "Hot to Go!" dance - which she previously struggled to get small crowds to go along with. Unfortunately, all the success at such a fast pace was difficult for Roan to handle. She ended up sharing a...

Dan Nigro’s emo-inflected ’00s indie band, As Tall As Lions, always hovered on the edge of mass success, but Nigro has since decided they were missing one thing: a great producer. “I always wish that I had somebody when I was younger that just helped shift me a little bit,” he says. “Like, ‘That’s cool, but you should listen to this Neil Young song.’ ” Nigro ended up playing that very role for two of the most exciting new pop stars in years, Chappell Roan and Olivia Rodrigo, serving as producer,...

Alissia’s DMs are lit. Prince slid into them to connect with the producer and bass player about loving her music. Bootsy Collins reached out over social media and as a result, she worked on one-third of his 15-track 2017 album, World Wide Funk. And Quincy Jones even connected with the songwriter and DJ about her music, a chance encounter with her “biggest inspiration” that changed her life.
The greats have known about Alissia for years, and she’s been working persistently behind-the-scenes to make a name for herself. She’s produced and written for Anderson .Paak, Calvin Harris and Mary J. Blige, earning a 2023 Grammy nomination for album of the year for the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul’s Good Morning Gorgeous.
Alissia
Now, Alissia is nominated for non-classical producer of the year at the 2025 Grammys, making her just the ninth woman in the show’s 67-year history to compete for the prize.

Chappell Roan and Olivia Rodrigo, two of the biggest and most interesting pop artists of the past half decade, have a not-so-secret weapon in common: producer and co-writer Daniel Nigro, formerly the frontman of the ’00s band As Tall As Lions. Nigro, who just scored a Grammy nomination for Producer of the Year, helped Roan and Rodrigo step off the pop assembly line and sidestep trends, building uncommonly sturdy catalogs of precisely crafted, oft rock-inflected hits.
