Dina's Shocking The Last Of Us Season 2, Episode 5 Monologue, Explained By Isabela Merced
Image
Leave Seattle and go your own way if you haven't watched season 2, episode 5 of "The Last of Us," titled "Feel Her Love." Spoilers lie ahead!

In the most recent episode of "The Last of Us," we learn a lot more about Dina, the pivotal character played by Isabela Merced. Despite living in a full-on zombie apocalypse, Dina tends to find the dark humor and lightness in even the worst situations, marking a stark contrast to the deeply intense Ellie (Bella Ramsey), Dina's best friend turned lover. In "Feel Her Love," the second season's fifth episode, we learn what happened to Dina's entire family ... and it's horrifying. At the tender age of eight, Dina returned to her family home to find that a raider slaughtered her mother and sister, so Dina killed him, marking her "first kill." As Dina says to Ellie, "Would it have made a difference if my family had hurt his people first?...

Bella Ramsey Wants to Know: Is Ellie the Real Villain on ‘The Last of Us’ Season 2?
Image
[Editor’s note: The following contains spoilers for “The Last of Us” Season 2, Episode 5, “Feel Her Love.”]

An antihero in the making, Ellie didn’t say “feel this, bitch” in “The Last of Us” Season 2, Episode 5. But the sentiment behind that particularly memorable piece of graffiti — scrawled near a pile of corpses strung up in a zombie apocalypse — pulses beneath every beat in Bella Ramsey’s wrathful performance. Asked what makes a good revenge arc, the star actor emphasized emotion and complexity.

“I think it has to be complicated and nuanced and not black and white,” Ramsey told IndieWire. “It’s not like, ‘Here’s a good guy and here’s a bad guy, and the good guy is going to go after the bad guy, or the bad guy is going to go after good guy.'”

“I think what happens in this show is that, throughout the season, Ellie maybe isn’t the hero anymore,” they said.

Why everyone was "scared" of Ellie (and Bella Ramsey) in the new Last of Us episode
Image
There's a moment in the latest episode of The Last of Us, "Feel Her Love," where Ellie (Bella Ramsey) picks up a guitar in an empty theater, and plays a song that her father Joel taught her, before he died. It's a wistful moment of remembrance that left everyone on set “damp eyed," as director Stephen Williams told Variety.

At the end of the episode, things are very different. Ellie tracks down Nora, one of the group who came to Jackson earlier in the season and killed Joel. Nora didn't do the deed herself; that would be Abby (Kaitlyn Dever), whom Ellie is still looking for. But Nora was complicit, which is enough for Ellie. Her eyes dead and blank, Ellie takes a metal rod and brutally beats Nora as the episode ends.

“She just loses all sense of logic and rationality and just has this single focus,” Ramsey said...

Why The Last Of Us Star Bella Ramsey 'Scared' Showrunner Craig Mazin On Set
Image
Step away from the spores if you haven't watched "Feel Her Love," the fifth episode of season 2 of "The Last of Us." Major spoilers incoming!

Ever since Ellie — one of the protagonists of "The Last of Us" (who's played on the series by Bella Ramsey) — watched her father figure Joel Miller (Pedro Pascal) get beaten to death by the vengeful Abby Johnson (Kaitlyn Dever) earlier in season 2 of "The Last of Us," she's been out for blood. Now, in "Feel Her Love," Ellie and her best friend turned girlfriend Dina (Isabela Merced) are in Seattle hunting Abby and her entire crew of "wolves" (meaning that they belong to the Washington Liberation Front). In fact, when she finds one of Abby's cohorts (Tati Gabrielle as the medic Nora), Ellie's thirst for revenge overtakes her to the point where even Craig Mazin, who co-developed and show-runs the series alongside "The Last of Us...

The Last of Us season 2’s big spores reveal just changed the series forever
Image
Things are heating up in The Last of Us, and as HBO’s live-action adaptation of Naughty Dog’s video game series ticks along, we’re getting well stuck into the action of 2020’s The Last of Us Part II. There have been some major departures from the game, and alongside a changed timeline or expansion of Bill and Frank’s story, the introduction of Catherine O’Hara’s Gail, or giving Pedro Pascal’s Joel Miller an even more brutal demise, most of these changes have been given the thumbs up from fans. However, much like how these story changes are in danger of sidelining Gabriel Luna’s Tommy, there have been complaints that The Last of Us is missing a major mechanic from the games.

Much like AMC’s The Walking Dead, The Last of Us has taught is that it’s the human race that’s the real danger here…...

‘The Last of Us’ Season 2, Episode 5 Finally Brings the Arrival of Spores
Image
Warning: This article contains spoilers for this week’s episode of “The Last of Us,” which is available now to stream on Max.

“Feel Her Love,” the latest episode of HBO’s “The Last of Us,“ begins with a cold open signaling the arrival of Cordyceps spores, infectious air particles expelled by the infected in their last stage of infection. Finally. While season one excluded them entirely despite their prevalence in the source material, The Last of Us Part II video game features some important story beats that involve the spores, including a pivotal moment that “Feel Her Love“ foreshadows with its grim opening scene.

Episode five is action-packed and wastes no time refocusing on Ellie (Bella Ramsey) and Dina’s (Isabela Merced) pursuit of Abby (Kaitlyn Dever), with Dina proving what an invaluable asset she is by triangulating the Wlf movements, pinpointing their path forward to avoid detection. The...

‘The Last of Us’ Season 2: All the Biggest Changes From the Game
Image
When it premiered in 2023, HBO’s The Last of Us was hailed by many as the best video game adaptation ever. A huge part of that acclaim was attributed to how closely series’ creators Craig Mazin and Neill Druckmann (who co-created the game) stuck to the script when translating the 2013 title to television.

For anyone who’d played the game, it seemed obvious; The Last of Us was designed to closely resemble the language of cinematic storytelling. The first season lifted the entire structure of the game — with 1:1 recreation...

Warning: Spoilers ahead for The Last of Us season 2, episode 5!The Last of Us showrunners Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin have teased the reunion fans have been waiting for after season 2, episode 5's final scene. The Last of Us season 2 has been laying the groundwork for Ellie (Bella Ramsey) finally coming face-to-face with Abby (Kaitlyn Dever) on her quest to get revenge after she killed Joel (Pedro Pascal). However, the end of season 2, episode 5 delivered a surprise flashback scene of Joel waking Ellie up, with season 2, episode 6 poised to reunite the pair in a flashback episode.

How Scientifically Accurate Are The Spores On The Last Of Us?
Image
Thanks to two video games and a television adaptation, "The Last of Us" has managed to make us far more wary of the noble mushroom than we used to be. Well, more specifically, the cordyceps mushroom that brings about the end of the world and turns humanity into various forms of infected that look like raging, roaring fungi. But just how much of the homegrown danger in HBO's beloved post-apocalyptic series holds true? Will the world crumble under such a ferocious fungus? Well, like a lot of horrifying infections from film and television that have some fact in their blood, the infection in HBO's show is real and survives by doing precisely what we see in "The Last of Us," albeit with smaller organisms.

Ophiocordyceps unilateralis (via Yale University) is a type of fungus that infects the brains of ants and spreads through the host, taking control of their muscles...

The Last of Us Season 2 Episode 5 Review: I Breathed the Spores, Beat Truth Out of Nora, and Still Couldn’t Escape Joel
Image
Ah, The Last of Us, that one show that somehow manages to make me feel like I’ve been punched in the gut while simultaneously leaving me grinning like a madman. And if you thought Episode 4 of The Last of Us season 2 was a gut punch to the heart, then Episode 5, titled Feel Her Love, might just have you gasping for air, frantically scrabbling for some sense of emotional ground. I mean, whoa, this show doesn’t know the meaning of a gentle breath, does it?

While Episode 4 had Ellie strumming her guitar, grieving Joel in that haunting, fragile moment, Episode 5 comes along, and it’s all about new threats and making us squirm. From spores in the air to some spine-tingling encounters with the deadly, groaning Stalkers, this episode does a masterful job of blending the horrors of survival with gut-wrenching emotional drama.

But for some reason, all I...

The Last Of US Season 2 Finally Adds [Spoilers] To The Mix As [Spoiler] Makes An Unexpected Return
Image
This article was originally published on GameFragger.com.

The Last of Us season 2 continues with its fifth episode, "Feel Her Love," and brings another iconic element from the hit video games into the series. After Jesse tracks down Ellie and Dina, Ellie takes off on her own to confront Nora, one of the Fireflies who was with Abby when she killed Joel.

A chase through a hospital ensues, and Nora flees into a basement that's been sealed off because it's full of Cordyceps spores. Yes, The Last of Us has finally adapted spores, with one of the infected shown hooked up to the Cordyceps network, essentially breathing them into its surroundings.

Nora is infected and dying, but an immune Ellie brutally interrogates and tortures her, beating her with a pipe. Any innocence that remained in the survivor is all but extinguished in this violent act of revenge, and the episode...

Ellie's Darkest The Last Of Us Season 2 Scene Is An Exact Recreation From The Game
Image
At no point could you accuse "The Last of Us" of being a happy show, nor could you say the same of the video games on which the HBO series is based. There are times when it seems to be about the perseverance of the human spirit, our capacity to heal and rebuild, and moments of joy hidden amidst dark times. But more often than not, the bigger ideas are death, grief, and revenge.

Joel (Pedro Pascal) embodies these two sides of the story well, showing a loving side to Ellie (Bella Ramsey) but a brutal one whenever violence is called for. While Joel's death in "The Last of Us" season 2, episode 2 is gut-wrenching, it's also hard to see it as out of place in a show like this.

In the wake of that heartbreak, Ellie is taking on Joel's mantle with some new story threads pushing her further and further toward darkness,...

‘The Last of Us’ star Bella Ramsey on Ellie’s fateful turn: ‘She loses all sense of logic and rationality’
Image
The post contains spoilers for The Last of Us

Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering.

On Sunday’s episode of The Last of Us, Ellie (Bella Ramsey) took her first step toward getting revenge for Joel’s (Pedro Pascal) murder by killing Nora (Tati Gabrielle), one of the Wlf members who participated in Joel’s slaughter.

In the brisk, action-forward episode from director Stephen Williams, Ellie separates herself from Dina (Isabela Merced) and the newly arrived Jesse (Young Mazino) after Dina is injured during a skirmish with the Seraphites. Rather than seek alternative shelter with her friends, Ellie heads to the Seattle hospital, hoping to find Nora. When Ellie confronts her prey, rather than Nora begging for mercy or expressing remorse, she doubles down on her choice, saying Joel deserved to die at the hands of Abby. A brief chase ensues before Ellie and...

The Last Of Us Season 2 Episode 5 Finally Introduces A Key Threat From The Original Games
Image
This article contains spoilers for "The Last of Us" season 2, episode 5.

The Cordyceps brain infection is fairly straightforward. Both in "The Last of Us" games and on the show, it got its origin from tainted crops but soon started spreading on its own, courtesy of infected individuals. After this initial infection, the poor person with the mutated Cordyceps now growing in their brain is slowly taken over, leading them to a hellish life cycle of various types of Infected zombies on "The Last of Us."

Up to now, however, the show has omitted a key component of the Cordyceps infection. In the games, all non-immune characters have to keep a gas mask ready whenever they're exploring confined areas in case they stumble upon a spot where the air is contaminated by Cordyceps spores. Breathing them in is a surefire way to become infected, which makes the spores a dangerous (and fairly common) environmental threat.

‘The Last of Us’ Review: Episode 5 Stares Death in the Face and Asks for More — Spoilers
Image
[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “The Last of Us” Season 2, Episode 5. For previous coverage, check out last week’s review.]

“I know.”

Who knew two little words could evoke so many questions? From the second Season 2 began, “The Last of Us” has kept audiences in the dark over how much Ellie (Bella Ramsey) knows about what Joel (Pedro Pascal) did for her. The opening moments (which revisit the final scene from Season 1) see Ellie asking Joel to “swear” that the story he told her is true; that what he said happened with the Fireflies in the Salt Lake City hospital was what really happened. He swears, promising her there was no other choice, but the expression on her face doesn’t reflect a person who’s convinced; it’s more like a person who’s resolved.

Five years after that vow, when Season 2’s story picks up, Joel and Ellie are in a silent feud.

‘The Last of Us’ Season 2, Episode 5 Recap: Spores, Stalkers and Backup
Image
“The Last of Us” Season 2, Episode 5 begins, once again, with the Washington Liberation Front (W.L.F.). Hanrahan (Alanna Ubach) arrives in one of the militia’s W.L.F.-controlled hospitals only to find its basement stairwell completely sealed off. When she asks Sergeant Elise Park (Hettienne Park) why she decided to kill some of her men by doing so, she is told a terrifying story. Sergeant Park tried to fulfill her mission of making the hospital fully operational again for the W.L.F. by clearing every one of its floors. She found little resistance doing so, too, until her soldiers began to scour the building’s three basement levels. B1 was fine. “The whole floor was empty, not even rats,” she says (a line that is sure to make “The Last of Us Part II” players’ ears perk up).

When she sent her son Leon down to help clear out B2, however,...

Ellie peers over the edge in a solid new episode of The Last of Us, "Feel Her Love"
Image
When The Last of Us Part II came out on the PlayStation 3 in 2020, there was a big backlash against the game. Fans put forward many justifications for why they were so angry. One of them went something like this: "The story is a straightforward revenge tale with nothing interesting to say."

It's true that The Last of Us Part II is a revenge story. After spending the first game bonding with Joel (Pedro Pascal), Ellie (Bella Ramsey) witnesses his brutal murder at the hands of Abby (Kaitlyn Dever), a new character who is getting revenge on Joel for killing her father in the season 1 finale. Ellie then sets out to get revenge on Abby, crossing more and more lines until she's behaving just as cruelly and wantonly as Abby did.

At what point does someone cross the line separating justice from vengeance? Is it worth taking revenge on someone if it costs you your soul?...

‘The Last of Us’ Season 2 Character Who Could Dethrone Kaitlyn Dever’s Abby as The Worst Franchise Villain
Image
The Last of Us has thrived in the gray areas of morality. From Joel’s controversial decisions to Ellie’s haunting descent into revenge, the series never offers easy answers, only harder questions. But just as Season 2 introduces Kaitlyn Dever’s Abby to stir the pot of fan debate once again, a new player has quietly stepped into the frame.

He doesn’t shout. He doesn’t break down. He simply watches, listens, and strikes when the time is right. While much of the focus has been on Abby and the divisive debates surrounding her character, a colder, more calculating, and potentially far more dangerous character has entered the scene.

Isaac’s introduction was brief but bone-chilling

Make no mistake, Abby is going to be the primary antagonist of Season 2. Her revengeful quest to torture and kill Joel as Ellie watches sent chills down people’s spines. However, the makers...

The Last of Us is not just a show. It’s an emotion for the millions of gamers who have played the games and are currently watching the world unfold in the live-action adaptation of the series.

Although the first season received much love from the world, the second season might not be doing too well. Despite the hate from gamers around the world… It’s time to stop. It’s time for gamers to stop ruining the show, and we can tell you four ways they can stop ruining the fun.

Gamers are spoiling the show

The italicized word is not a typo. Aside from the stupid joke I wrote, it seems that The Last of Us game fans are constantly ruining the show by spoiling important plot points that haven’t yet appeared in the series.

“Godzilla x Kong: Supernova”
Directed by Grant Sputore, with a screenplay by Dave Callaham and Michael Lloyd Green, “Godzilla x Kong: Supernova” will star Kaitlyn Dever and Sam Neill, exploring the narrative from Godzilla's perspective, shifting away from the Kong-focused stories of previous films, targeting a 2027 theatrical release:

‘The Monsterverse’, launched by Legendary Pictures, builds on the ‘Godzilla’ and ‘King Kong' cinematic legacies—Godzilla’s franchise began in 1954, inspired by atomic bomb themes, while Kong dates back to 1933—merging them into a shared universe that now spans six films and a 2023 Apple TV+ series, "Monarch: Legacy of Monsters."

It sounds like The Last of Us season 3 may not film until 2026
Image
Right now The Last of Us is in the thick of its second season, and events are progressing at breakneck pace. In last Sunday's episode, Ellia (Bella Ramsey) and her partner Dina (Isabela Merced) made their way into the ruins of Seattle, where they hope to track down Abby (Kaitlyn Dever), the woman who murdered Ellie's foster father Joel (Pedro Pascal).

They didn't find Abby by the end of the episode, but an awful lot happened, including a swapping of big secrets by our new leading duo. Dina found out that Ellie is immune to the cordyceps plague which has destroyed civilization, and Ellie found out that Dina is pregnant with Jessie's (Young Mazino) baby. Afterward they had sex, solidfying their relationship in a much-needed calm amidst the storm. The romance between Ellie and Dina is a key element of this season, and the show has been giving it plenty of attention.

Godzilla X Kong: Supernova: Everything We Know So Far About The Kaiju Sequel
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

The MonsterVerse has become one of the most reliable, slow and steady cinematic universes going in Hollywood. Tracing its roots back to Gareth Edwards' gritty, grounded, divisive hit "Godzilla" in 2014, the franchise has since expanded to five increasingly wild movies, a TV show in the form of "Monarch: Legacy of Monsters," comics books, and even video games. Now, Warner Bros. and Legendary are reuniting once again for another kaiju-filled cinematic romp coming our way in 2027.

While virtually nothing has been revealed yet in terms of plot details, the studio has confirmed that "Godzilla x Kong: Supernova" has an official release date. Given that 2024's "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" became the biggest movie in MonsterVerse history, that's not remotely surprising. So, what is "Supernova" going to bring to the table? Does the term relating to the implosion of a...

Godzilla x Kong: Supernova logo arrives alongside an ominous teaser announcing the film’s production start
Godzilla and King Ghidorah in Godzilla II: Rei dos Monstros (2019)
More than a decade has passed since Legendary Pictures secured the rights to Godzilla and other characters owned and created by the Japanese company Toho so they could launch a cinematic universe they call the MonsterVerse – and they also secured the rights to the King Kong character so he could be part of their MonsterVerse as well. A third Godzilla / Kong mash-up is now on the way – and while we already knew two weeks ago that production had started on the film, Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. have officially announced that filming is underway today, unveiling an ominous teaser, revealing that the film is aiming for a March 26, 2027 theatrical release,...

'Godzilla x Kong' Sequel Goes 'Supernova' With Explosive New Title
Image
The MonsterVerse just got a whole lot hotter. Legendary Pictures has officially revealed the title for its next kaiju showdown, and it’s going nuclear — the sequel to Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is now titled Godzilla x Kong: Supernova. While plot details are still sealed tighter than Hollow Earth, the title itself is already sparking theories. Supernova? Are we going cosmic this time? Is an intergalactic Titan on the way? And more importantly: will Godzilla and Kong need space suits? If they don't, we're out.

Production is already underway in Queensland, Australia, marking the fourth MonsterVerse entry to shoot in the region after Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla vs. Kong, and The New Empire. Legendary is once again rolling cameras at Village Roadshow Studios, where the film is expected to pump over Aud$93 million into the local economy and support more than 400 cast and crew members. That’s a...

’The Last of Us’ Season 2 Review Bombers Relentlessly Target Rotten Tomatoes Audience Score
Image
Now past the midway mark, the second season of HBO's The Last of Us is rapidly emerging as something of a case study in review bombing. This is when a section of the audience collectively targets a film or show's scores on aggregator websites; their hate is typically directed towards women and minorities, and inspired by a misguided sense of frustration. The Last of Us Season 2 has been targeted for its translation of certain pivotal moments from the original video game, which itself was made a victim of review bombing when it debuted some years ago. As a result, the new season's audience score on Rotten Tomatoes has been declining at an alarming rate.

The aggregator has taken steps in the past to prevent targeted manipulation of this kind, but they don't seem to be working. The Last of Us Season 2's audience score began in the 60s, but quickly...

‘Awards Magnet’: ‘Hacks,’ ‘The Studio,’ and 2 Emmy-worthy episodes
Image
It's a great week to be a fan of Hacks and The Studio. Awards Magnet hosts Christopher Rosen and Joyce Eng are here to discuss the comedies' big episodes this week and how/if they affect their Emmy prospects.

On Hacks, Deborah (Jean Smart) and Ava (Hannah Einbinder) — spoiler alert! — finally reconcile after the former concedes she was wrong about the direction of her late-night show and begs Ava not to quit, promising she won't let her down. Whether she does or not remains to be seen, but the episode, titled "Mrs. Table," is a great showcase for Einbinder's comedic and dramatic chops, as Ava has a breakdown that includes tossing a branzino at a window and driving her car through a gate. Should this be her Emmy submission? And will it be enough to win?

7 Lewis Pullman Movies You Have to Watch if You Liked Him in ‘Thunderbolts*’ (‘The New Avengers’)
Image
The world just saw Lewis Pullman crush it as Robert Reynolds, aka Sentry, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s recent installment, Thunderbolts* (The New Avengers). Lewis is no stranger to the spotlight, being the son of acting legend Bill Pullman. However, he has made his own path with his performances in indie gems and blockbuster hits.

He started his career with short films, Westerns, and horrors, and one thing that can be said about his filmography is that the actor has got range. Lewis has brought a sort of quiet charisma and intensity to most of his roles, and if you have liked the way he portrayed Bob/Sentry/Void in Thunderbolts*, here are 10 of his movies that also deserve your attention.

‘Salem’s Lot (2024)

‘The Last Of Us’ Composers Gustavo Santaolalla And David Fleming “Stumbled Upon The Same Pawn Shop In The Post-Apocalypse” To Create Series’ Music – Sound & Screen TV
Image
Gustavo Santaolalla arrived at making music for The Last Of Us for two reasons: one, that his son really resonated with the video game, and two, he wanted to do something different after winning back-to-back Oscars for his scores to Brokeback Mountain (2005) and Babel (2006).

“I’m a terrible gamer, horrendous. But we have a son that at the time that I started working on the game, he was in his mid-teen years, and he was an avid player, and a really good player, and I really enjoyed watching him play,” Santaolalla said during a conversation at Deadline’s Sound & Screen Television. “I always thought, ‘Well, if someday someone connects in an emotional level with a player, is going to really make a revolution.’ ”

At Sound & Screen, Santaolalla and his production partner David Fleming played a rousing rendition of the main theme and other music from the hit HBO | Max series.

Dakota Johnson
Materialists gets a throwback-style trailer complete with narration
Dakota Johnson
Dakota Johnson is a matchmaker who gets more than she bargained for in the new trailer for Materialists. The rom-com-with-a-twist comes from the writer/director of the Academy Award-nominated film Past Lives. The film was first announced in February 2024, with producers Christine Vachon and Pamela Koffler of Killer Films attached to the project, along with David Hinojosa of the 2Am production company. A new trailer from A24 just dropped.

Materialists stars Dakota Johnson, Chris Evans, and Pedro Pascal. The very brief plot synopsis reads, “A young, ambitious New York City matchmaker finds herself torn between the perfect match and her imperfect ex.” The newly released trailer is a major throwback to the style of trailers from the 80s and 90s, with very few of the usual modern-day trailer “hit” sound effects, Madonna’s “Material Girl” plays throughout and it even features a trailer narrator. Pedro Pascal takes a break from...

Thunderbolts Almost Included the Team’s Own Darkest ‘Rooms’ and Bucky’s Was a Proper Nightmare
Image
There’s a lot to think about in terms of what to keep and let go of in a film to keep it just around the right length. We later got to know that everyone bowed to a dead Tony Stark (except for Doctor Strange) in one scene from Avengers: Endgame that didn’t make the final cut. Thunderbolts was no exception to this. Jason Schreier, the film’s director, was talking to Variety about this and told them that there were ‘Shame Rooms’ for Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), Red Guardian (David Harbour), and Bucky (Sebastian Stan) too. Bucky’s could’ve been from an unexpected memory that makes it more nightmarish than his Winter Soldier days. He said:

We had a lot of different Bucky ones. We always wanted to do something a little less than the expected idea. There’s some very obvious things for Bucky, but I think at one point,...

‘The Last of Us’: Kaitlyn Dever will campaign as guest actress at the Emmys for Season 2 (exclusive)
Image
One of this year’s great Emmy category mysteries has been solved. Gold Derby has learned exclusively that The Last of Us star Kaitlyn Dever will campaign in the Best Drama Guest Actress category at the Emmy Awards.

Dever could have picked the guest category or the Best Drama Supporting Actress field on the Emmys ballot, as she will ultimately appear in fewer than 50 percent of the Season 2 episodes.

A new addition to the series for Season 2, Dever plays the pivotal role of Abby, the character who takes revenge on Joel (Pedro Pascal) and kills him after Joel murdered her father at the end of Season 1. Dever has been widely praised for her complex performance, especially in the season’s second episode, when Abby confronts Joel over what he has done and gets her vengeance.

In addition to campaigning in the guest category for The Last of Us, Dever will...

6 Burning Emmy Questions Ahead of Submissions Deadline: From ‘The Studio’ Guest Star Count to ‘The Last of Us’ Category Moves
Image
It’s that time of year again, where people want some statues.

The final Emmy submissions are due Thursday, May 8, at 10 p.m. Pt, and if you listen closely, you can almost hear the collective scrambling across Hollywood. For those of us who live and breathe awards season strategy, this is when things get interesting. On the surface, it’s just paperwork. But in reality? It’s game theory with golden statues (and egos) at stake.

This year, the races are unusually fluid — categories could shrink or expand based on how many entries are submitted, and several major contenders are still holding their cards close. Below, I’ve broken down the most urgent and talked-about questions insiders are still debating, with implications that could echo all the way to nomination morning in July.

Here are the biggest questions still hanging in the balance:

Will “The Studio” overplay its guest acting hand?...

I'm surprised The Last of Us is sticking this close to the structure of the game
Image
There are only seven episodes on this season of The Last of Us, and the fourth, "Day One," just aired. That means we're already halfway through the season, which is a bummer, but at least HBO is making every episode count.

"Day One" found Ellie (Bella Ramsey) and Dina (Isabela Merced) setting up camp in post-apocalyptic Seattle. Somewhere in this ruined city, they will find Abby (Kaitlyn Dever), the woman who murdered Ellie's foster dad Joel (Pedro Pascal) earlier in the season. And when they find her: sweet revenge.

Or at least that's the plan. If you've played the video games the show is based on, you know things get complicated. In The Last of Us Part II, you play as Ellie for around the first half of the game. Then you switch to playing as Abby, the woman Ellie is hunting, and see things from her perspective. It's a...
