If there’s one pair that viewers have come to love for New Year’s Eve shenanigans, it’s Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen. And yes, the two will be reuniting to ring in 2025.
For the last six years, the duo has hosted “CNN’s New Year’s Eve Live,” most often going viral for drunken moments on air as the night goes on. In 2022, then-cnn head Chris Licht announced that on-air personnel wouldn’t be allowed to drink during the network’s programming, with the logic being that on-camera drinking damaged the credibility of reporters in the eyes of viewers.
Cooper and Cohen were technically exempt from that mandate, but opted not to drink anyway, in solidarity with their fellow on-air talent. Instead, they took mystery shots of non-alcoholic beverages throughout the night, ranging from pickle juice to buttermilk.
So, what will this year bring? We’ve got the details for you below.

Former MTV veejay Ananda Lewis is standing her ground despite fan concern over her decision not to undergo the doctor-recommended surgery for her Stage III breast cancer, which has spread and is now Stage IV. “You can’t spend your time wishing you did things differently. You will never live. I’m not going to spend time regretting. I understand that people don’t get it,” she told host Shameika Rhymes on the radio show Soulibration from BlackDoctor.org on Wednesday (October 16). “They’re entitled to their opinion.” Lewis, diagnosed with Stage III breast cancer in early 2024, drew backlash earlier this week over her round-table discussion with CNN’s Stephanie Elam and CNN anchor Sara Sidner. She stated she chose not to have a double mastectomy, going against doctor’s recommendations, after long refusing a mammogram. “I decided to keep my tumor and try to work it out of my body a different way,...

However, during a round-table discussion on cancer with panelists Stephanie Elam and anchor Sara Sidner — who herself was diagnosed with Stage III breast cancer this year — Lewis stated she went against her doctors’ recommendation for a double mastectomy after she was diagnosed. CNN anchor Sara Sidner told viewers today that she will undergo a double mastectomy on Wednesday and will be away for the next few weeks as she recovers.
Earlier this year, Sidner said that she was being treated for stage three breast cancer, even as she continues in her network duties.
“What I have learned so far in my cancer journey is treating it is more of a marathon than a sprint,” Sidner said this morning. “After five months of chemo, I have not yet become cancer free. The next phase is a double mastectomy.”
She added that a 2016 study found that the 10-year survival rate for a bilateral mastectomy is 90.3%. “I like those odds,” she said.
“We cannot wait for you to get back,” said co-anchor Kate Bolduan. Sidner, Bolduan and John Berman have co-anchored CNN News Central since April, 2023.

The network is revamping its entire A.M. schedule as the Warner Bros. Discovery-based cable news outlet continues to grapple with poor ratings.
Poppy Harlow and Phil Mattingly, who co-anchor “CNN This Morning,” will leave the line-up, while Kasie Hunt’s early-morning program will take on an extra hour. Her show, “Early Start,” will run from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m., and will take on the “CNN This Morning” title. CNN will then move “CNN News Central,” anchored by John Berman, Kate Bolduan and Sara Sidner, to a 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. slot, with Jim Acosta and Pamela Brown taking over new hours at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m.

MSNBC’s Joy Reid apologized Monday after a hot mic caught her cursing during a moment she described as “behind-the-scenes chatter.”

On October 9, two days after Hamas terrorists crossed over into Israel from Gaza and unleashed the most deadly attack on Jews since the Holocaust, CNN appeared to make the brewing conflict about itself.
The network’s correspondent Clarissa Ward, in a flak jacket marked “press,” was near the Israel-Gaza border during a live shot when Hamas-fired rockets flew overhead. She and her crew of at least four scrambled, the camera still rolling, into a nearby ditch. Laying on her side, an arm extended above her head like she’s grasping at earth, she continued the shot even as she winces from the sound of explosions.
Her tenacity in the moment is admirable, but its news value doesn’t extend beyond the adrenaline of “you are there.” Is this the conflict-zone version of Weather Channel meteorologists putting themselves at risk by broadcasting live and wind-battered from the middle of a hurricane making landfall?...

Juneteenth, which falls on June 19, commemorates the fall of slavery in the United States.
It celebrates the anniversary of the order made by Major General Gordon Granger on June 1965 that proclaimed freedom for slaves in Texas. The order was actually made two years after Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation.
In a tweet Monday, former President Obama explained it as the “delayed but welcome news of freedom reaching the enslaved Black folks in Galveston, Texas.” In 2021, President Biden made Juneteenth a federal holiday.
Many networks are marking the occasion with Juneteenth TV specials or movie marathons showcasing Black talent and/or excellence. See our viewing guide below:

Chris Licht has left the building that houses CNN’s New York headquarters, but the things he did while he was there are likely to last a little longer.
Executives at the Warner Bros. Discovery-backed news outlet intend to follow the programming strategy Licht approved during his 13 months at the operation, according to three people familiar with the matter.
Yes, Kaitlan Collins will lead CNN’s 9 p.m. hour. Dana Bash is still scheduled to take over the noontime program “Inside Politics.” Poppy Harlow will remain at the helm of CNN’s new morning show, paired with someone new (Phil Mattingly and Sara Sidner have made frequent appearances in recent weeks). And “News Central,” the CNN daytime show that aims to lend the tension of breaking news to the usual proceedings, is backed by much of the staff, these people said.
CNN declined to make executives available for comment.

Kate Bolduan’s next shift on CNN hasn’t started quite yet, but she’s acting as if it has. Neither does the news network.
Bolduan and five of her on-air colleagues, along with dozens of crew members and producers working in New York, Washington, D.C. and Atlanta, are taking part in a major TV-news experiment that is going to play out each weekday for the foreseeable future at CNN.
