Robert Benton, the beloved Oscar winner behind Kramer vs. Kramer and Bonnie and Clyde, died Sunday. The screenwriter and director’s longtime manager Marisa Forzano revealed the news to The New York Times on Tuesday. He was 92.

Benton was a three-time Academy Award winner and seven-time nominee. His 1979 film, Kramer vs. Kramer, earned him a pair of Oscars for Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay, while its stars Dustin Hoffman and Meryl Streep took home acting honors.

Robert Benton, the much-admired screenwriter turned director who co-wrote Bonnie and Clyde and received a pair of Academy Awards for his work on the best picture winner Kramer vs. Kramer, has died. He was 92.

Benton died Sunday at his home in Manhattan, his longtime assistant and manager, Marisa Forzano, told The New York Times.

Benton captured a third Oscar for his screenplay for Places in the Heart (1984), an autobiographical saga based on his grandmother’s hard experiences during the Depression in Texas. He received yet another Oscar nomination for his direction of that drama, and he was nominated for his screenplays for Bonnie and Clyde (1967) — one of the fruits of his partnership with David Newman — The Late Show (1977) and Nobody’s Fool (1994). He helmed the last two as well.

After holding up a diner in Pulp Fiction and going toe-to-toe with The Hulk in the MCU, Tim Roth is now establishing himself as a bona fide action star with his new movie, Seven Snipers. Along with a fellow Marvel vet and some established action stars, Seven Snipers looks to be a new action thriller, loosely inspired by Akira Kurosawa's classic samurai film, Seven Samurai. The film is currently doing the sales rounds at this week's Cannes market, and the first look at Roth in the movie has been revealed.

The movie was announced by Deadline, along with the first look at Tim Roth as one of the titular seven snipers. Only a still has been released to the general public, but lucky viewers and prospective buyers at Cannes have seen some actual footage from the new action movie. Seven Snipers is directed by Sandra Sciberras (The Dustwalker) and written by Andrew O'Keefe.

The early aughts launched a wave of horror remakes, but they’re especially known as an era full of American remakes of Japanese horror classics. It’s not often the original director is brought on for the American adaptation, so this is a fascinating film even for just that reason.

IndieWire debuts the trailer for the 4K release of the 1998 film. The restored “High Art” will have its New York premiere at NewFest’s “Queering the Canon: So Obsessed,” an April breakout of the regular fall festival. The divisive sci-fi movie that made Vin Diesel an action hero has now found a new streaming home. Released back in 2000, Pitch Black features a star-making turn from Diesel, and launched the now fan-favorite Riddick franchise, introducing Diesel as the mysterious Richard B. Riddick, a former soldier-turned-mercenary-turned-criminal who finds himself crash landing on an alien planet inhabited by monsters who thrive in the dark. Oh, and an eclipse is coming.

Directed by David Twohy and co-written by Twohy and brothers Ken and Jim Wheat, Pitch Black features Radha Mitchell, Cole Hauser, Claudia Black, and Keith David as some of the other crew members who come to rely on Diesel’s untrustworthy antihero to get them off the planet alive. Many people have forgotten that Game of Thrones and Lord of the Rings’Sean Bean once ventured into the fog-laden world of Silent Hill—and lived to tell the tale. The Crazies has reached the #2 spot on the free streaming service Tubi, bringing the 15-year-old remake starring Timothy Olyphant relevant once more. The film takes place in the fictional town of Ogden Marsh, Iowa, which becomes infected by a biological agent that turns those infected by it into insane killers. While not a conventional zombie film by any means, it still plays into many tropes associated with the genre and, if anything, is scarier given the more intelligent nature of those infected in this film.

The film is a remake of the 1973 film of the same name, written and directed by zombie icon and legend George Romero. Unfortunately, the original film was considered a box office failure when it was first released in 1973 but has since been reexamined as a cult classic, thus leading to the remake in 2010, with Romero even serving as an executive producer for this updated version.

Tubi continues to be the gift that keeps giving this holiday season as another film is heading to the free streaming service in the new year. This release emerged during the horror remake craze of the 2000s and is actually better than most that were being cranked out at the time. With a memorable cast, solid direction, and some decent scares up its sleeve, the 2010 remake of The Crazies will be one to revisit once it hits the streaming service.

The Last Days of the Space Age hit Hulu on Oct. 2, telling the story of three ordinary families living in 1979 Western Australia when a power strike looms in the background, threatening to take away the region’s electricity. The city also hosts the Miss Universe pageant, and the U.S. space station, Skylab crashes just outside the city.

Created by David Chidlow, the show stars Radha Mitchell, Jesse Spencer, Deborah Mailman, Jacek Koman and more. The retro soundtrack plays a key role in the show as well, setting the tone of the series and signaling coming change for the characters and the Australian city.

In 2006, video game adaptations still had a reputation for being pretty bad, both in terms of quality and of how accurate they were to the original games. Audiences had just finished groaning over Uwe Boll's latest misfire, BloodRayne, and the second Resident Evil adaptation two years before hadn't managed to clear the relatively low critical bar set by its predecessor. Viewers were lucky to get something even approaching mediocre, which is where Christophe Gans 2006 Silent Hill adaptation comes in. The movie, starring Radha Mitchell, Laurie Holden, and Sean Bean, is based on the game series of the same name about a small New England town shrouded in mist and dominated by monsters.

The Hulu October 2024 premiere schedule has been announced and can be viewed below. The streaming service has also revealed the titles that will leave next month.

The Hulu originals for the month include Carved, the Family Guy and Solar Opposites Halloween specials, Fanatical: The Catfishing of Tegan and Sara, FX’s American Horror Stories Huluween event, Hold Your Breath, and La Máquina.

Last Days of the Space Age, Mr. Crocket, Nemesis, Pancho Villa: El Centauro del Norte, and Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band will also be available in October.

Set in Queensland, Troppo sees Ted working as a private investigator alongside his partner, Amanda Pharrell (Nicole Chamoun), a talented detective who has a dark history of her own. Together, the pair solve crimes around Crimson Lake, often bumping up against the police stationed there.
