How General Hospital’s Kirsten Storms Fought Hard For Her Breakout Role
Image
General Hospital fans really love the plucky, resilient, and tenacious Maxie Jones, who has overcome the odds many times over the years. Before playing Maxie, Kirsten Storms became a soap star when she played Belle Black on Days of Our Lives from 1999 to 2004. She’s also been in quite a few projects geared toward a younger audience, and recently opened up about how she got the part in a major, young adult sci-fi film series.

A Soap Space Opera

In 1999, Storms starred in the Disney TV movie Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century. The film’s IMDb page describes the plot as, “An inquisitive teenager pries into suspected dodgy dealings on her space station home – and ends up being sent down to Earth.” She would go on to reprise the role in two sequels, Zenon: The Zequel, and Zenon: Z3.

The actress spoke with TV Insider and explained that getting...

Kirsten Storms Recalls Beating Out Allison Mack for ‘Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century’
Image
Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century and its two sequels are some of the most beloved Disney Channel movies, but Kirsten Storms, who played the titular role, reveals she almost wasn’t cast as the headstrong teen. “I went through, like, seven callbacks,” Storms recalls. “The director and the producer were at odds with who to hire. The other person was Allison Mack [who went on to play Chloe Sullivan in Smallville, then spent time in prison for her involvement in the cult-like Nxivm organization]. The director wanted Allison Mack, and the producers wanted me.” Not one to back down from a challenge, Storms gave it her all and wound up landing the role. “I went into it knowing I was not the director’s first choice, and it’s just in my personality to want to prove him wrong about his thoughts on if I could do it or not,” she explains. “That’s...

'There Were A Few Of Us:' Property Brothers Star Addresses His Very Special Smallville Role
Image
Drew Scott is best known for Property Brothers. But before that he had a very special, and some would say very important, role in Smallville.

During an appearance onThe Jennifer Hudson Show, Scott revealed that he worked as Clark Kent actor Tom Welling's body double. "I was Superman's butt double back in Tom Welling's Smallville days," he said during a guessing game segment related to thirst traps. This is not the first time Scott has spoken about his links to Smallville. In 2020, he happily discussed his contribution to the series with People "When they're doing like butt shots and ab shots, I was the one they were using," he said. "It was great. It was a little side thing. I was...

Smallville Star Aaron Ashmore Admits He Was "Shocked" To Learn Of Co-Star Allison Mack's Sex Cult Scandal
Image
We didn't see Allison Mack on screen again following her decade-long stint in Smallville, and later learned she'd become embroiled in a sex cult known as Nxivm.

Arrested by the FBI in 2018, Mack pleaded guilty to charges of trafficking, sex trafficking conspiracy, and forced labour conspiracy. Accusations of money laundering and identity fraud followed, with racketeering and conspiracy charges also later added.

The actress who played Clark Kent's best friend, Chloe Sullivan, ultimately served 2 years behind bars and was released in 2023.

Mack, who has now vanished from the spotlight, was said to have been responsible for recruiting new members to the group and has previously been accused of attempting to enlist her Smallville co-stars.

In the DC series, Aaron Ashmore played Jimmy Olsen and was Chloe's love interest. Talking to fellow Smallville alum Michael Rosenbaum for his Inside of You podcast, the actor reflected on learning about what Mack had...

What Happened To The Cast Of Smallville?
Image
It's hard to imagine this now, considering the stranglehold that superhero films and television series have had on Hollywood over the past decade and a half, but in the early 2000s, developing a show about a superhero -- even a top-tier one like Superman -- was not guaranteed to be a slam dunk. It's a testament to the charming, borderline addictive nature of "Smallville" that it not only existed on the fledgling CW network, but thrived there for 10 seasons from 2001 to 2011.

In telling the story of Clark Kent's (Tom Welling) teen and young adult years growing up in Smallville, the frothy superhero drama introduced audiences to a crop of upcoming actors who made their mark both on "Smallville" and beyond. While some are still acting to this day, others have taken interesting career -- and personal life -- turns over the years that may surprise fans of the show. Here's the main cast of "Smallville,...

Does Chloe Die in Smallville? What Happens to Her, Explained
Image
Tom Welling and Allison Mack were the only Smallville cast members to appear in all ten seasons of the Superman origin story. Mack played Clark Kent’s best friend and superhero sidekick, Chloe Sullivan. Chloe worked on the school newspaper with young Clark, and her innate curiosity had her sniffing around Clark’s secret.

Chloe Sullivan was the proto-Lois and Lois Lane’s cousin. She fearlessly chased stories, unearthing a few skeletons in the closets of the rich and powerful, making her more than a few enemies. While her journalism career would fizzle out, Chloe would go on to play an important part in Clark’s journey and the series at large.

Chloe Has a Couple of Close Calls

In the intense season three finale of Smallville, Lionel Luthor is arrested and denied bail for the murder of his parents. Chloe Sullivan is the star witness, having recorded Lionel’s confession on her voicemail.

14 Years After Finale, Smallville Stars Reveal the Mementos They Took From Set
Image
The stars of Smallville recently discussed the Superman prequel series, revealing what mementos they took from the set. The fan-favorite The CW series, which continues to be popular, ended its remarkable ten-season run fourteen years ago.

Tom Welling, Michael Rosenbaum, Kristin Kreuk, and Erica Durance were all on the Smallville MegaCon panel. Cbr asked the actors what they had taken from the set, to which the Clark Kent/Superman actor Welling responded, "Just my memories." His co-stars, however, were not quite as reticent. "I got the Smallville jacket. I have Lex's goggles. A picture of the crazy doll," Lex Luthor actor Rosenbaum stated. Kreuk revealed she had kept a memento from one of the wildest Smallville episodes, "Thirst," which had her character Lana Lang turn into a vampire. "My vampire teeth and de-kryptonite necklace," she responded. Durance, who portrayed Lois Lane, kept her character's name tag and entire wardrobe.

Why The CW Canceled Smallville - And How It Returned
Image
When your favorite TV show ends, you can feel like mourning. Sometimes, though, a show has gone on for so long that there's nothing left for it to do except to end. That was where "Smallville" was in 2011, when it began its 10th and final season on the CW.

"Smallville" followed a young Clark Kent (Tom Welling) during his high school years. Running storylines included Clark's relationship with girl next door Lana Lang (Kristin Kreuk) and his friendship with future nemesis, Lex Luthor (Michael Rosenbaum). Along the way, the show included a monster of the week formula where Clark battled people given superpowers from Kryptonite — "Smallville" was very consciously "Superboy" by way of "Buffy The Vampire Slayer."

Season 10 was not announced to be the final season at the time, but the writers approached it as such. (The finale of "Smallville" is literally titled "Finale.") For one, while "Smallville" wasn't failing,...

Before Zack Snyder's Man of Steel wowed audiences in 2013, The CW's Smallville, starring Tom Welling, was the definitive take on Superman in the 21st century. With James Gunn set to usher in a new era for the Big Blue Boy Scout in 2025, fan editor Bauan Edits brought the two DC projects together, giving the Superman teaser trailer an amazing Smallville-style makeover.

The "Smallville Opening Style" edit of the Superman teaser trailer was shared on the social media platform X by Bauan Edits, where it has quickly racked up close to 50,000 views. 2 Smallville Stars Had a Strange and Rocky Relationship on Set

One of the things that made Smallville such a great series was its amazing supporting characters and cast. The show follows a young Clark Kent on his journey to becoming the legendary hero as he tries to find his place in the world, with plenty of familiar names from the comic books and some new to the world of Superman.

Two of the women in Clark's life were Chloe Sullivan and Lois Lane. Chloe was a new character created for Smallville, played by Allison Mack. Mack started on the show in Season 1 and was on it for all 10 years. Lois Lane is the famous comic book character and the love of Clark Kent's life, played by Erica Durance. 10 Amazing DC Characters Smallville Completely Wasted
Image
Airing from 2001-2010, the young adult superhero drama Smallville approached the classic Superman tale from a whole new angle. The coming-of-age story focuses on the teenage years of Clark Kent (Tom Welling), concerning itself more with Clark than his larger-than-life alter ego. It's a refreshing and innovative take that requires tweaking many of DC's classic characters to make them fit the show's tone.

Smallville's reimaginings yield some of the most interesting adaptations of the characters in the Superman mythos; unfortunately, sometimes they miss the mark altogether. Not every hero or villain can be successfully scaled to fit the show's purposes, and as a result, the show is filled with wasted potential. Sometimes, this is because Smallville misses the heart of what makes these characters work, and some characters are doomed from the start.

Smallville Review: No Superman, No Problem - Tom Welling Nails The Role Of Clark Kent In One Of TV's Best Superhero Stories
Image
Smallville remains one of the best superhero origin stories of all time, despite never getting past the actual origin story elements. Early in the rise of the superhero genre, Warner Bros. Television took the most famous and powerful superhero of all time back to basics. And thanks to an incredible cast, creative writers, and compelling stories told through the lens of a young adult coming-of-age story, it was a huge hit, paving the way for what would ultimately become The CW's Arrowverse.

Smallville is a Superhero television series based on the Superman Comic Book series created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. This television release was developed by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar. The premise revolves around a young Clark Kent as he arrives on Earth and attempts to live his life while simultaneously keeping his friends, family, and those around him safe thanks to his superpowers.

Tom Welling has an update on the Smallville animated series and it’s not good

It’s been more than three years since Tom Welling first revealed that he and Michael Rosenbaum were working on a potential animated follow-up to Smallville. Fans were excited by the idea, but unfortunately, the project seems to be stalled as it’s waiting on a very crucial approval from Warner Bros.

“The honest answer is we have not been able to get Warner Bros. to give us the thumbs-up. We need their permission,” Welling told TVLine. “We haven’t even gotten a response!” The actor admitted that the Smallville animated series is “more of a fan-driven idea” that likely wouldn’t be a “financial windfall” for the studio. “We all like each other, we all like working together, and if we could do it, it’d be fun,” he said. “But Warner Bros. — and I’m not hating on them — they just haven’t gotten back to us. Tom Welling Shares Original Ending For Smallville Series Finale
Image
The Smallville series finale ended with Tom Welling's Clark Kent embracing his destiny as Superman, though viewers never got a complete look at the iconic suit as it was only shown briefly underneath the character's shirt.

However, the actor says the original series finale included an entire sequence with it.

'It Was Very Inspirational': Smallville's Tom Welling Shares Touching Christopher Reeve Story

Before Tom Welling would play Clark Kent in his pre-Superman years in the hit series Smallville, Christopher Reeve had suited up as the Man of Steel in a series of feature films. The two would unite when Reeve made a special appearance on Smallville, and Welling can still fondly recall the kindness that the beloved actor showed when they were filming the cameo.

Smallville's Most Problematic Character Creates a Major Issue for the Sequel Series

The following article contains mention of sex trafficking.

In June 2021, Superman fans were elated when they learned from Tom Welling himself that a continuation of The WB/The CW's hit 2000s teen superhero drama Smallville was in early development. Though it would be delivered in animated form rather than live action, this was more than enough to generate excitement from those who'd been waiting 20 years for more adventures with young Clark Kent.

As Welling noted when he confirmed the Smallville sequel, "Michael Rosenbaum and I are actually working on an animated series to bring those characters back to life, and use as many of the original cast members as possible." That last part, in particular, struck a chord because of one specific Smallville star. That same month, Allison Mack -- who played Clark's best friend Chloe Sullivan in all 10 seasons of Smallville -- was sentenced to three years in...

8 Times Superman Has Died Onscreen (& How Long It Lasted)
Image
Superman is one of the most popular characters in the entire DC Universe, and the popular comic book "The Death of Superman" has served as inspiration for several projects throughout the years. In animation, live-action, and even video games, the story of Superman's death has been a popular point of adaptation, featuring Doomsday or even bigger villains. While some series have adapted details loosely, including in the Justice League cartoon, where Superman did not actually die but was sent to the future, others have been much more faithful to the source material.

Superman's darkest story has been made even heavier with the recent episodes of Superman and Lois. Following a clash with Doomsday, the show has focussed on the trauma of how this has affected others, and this follows a long line of adaptations that have done the same. Seeing this iconic storyline being adapted for a new series has...

Smallville's Tom Welling Explains Why He Wants To Wear The Superman Suit On Screen

Although Tom Welling played Clark Kent in all 10 seasons of Smallville, the actor never got to properly showcase the Superman suit. While the iconic gear was briefly revealed underneath the character's shirt in the series finale, it didn't really count as getting to don the entire costume.

Welling had always supported the "no tights, no flights" rule set by series creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar. However, the actor told ComicBookMovie that he has recently had a change of heart. Why Allison Mack's Chloe Sullivan Only Appears In 6 Episodes Of Smallville Season 10
Image
Allison Mack didn't plan to return for Smallville season 10, wanting to move on from the show after a long tenure in it. Mack returned to wrap up Chloe's story, citing fan commitment. Chloe's narrative continued in Smallville Season 11 comics.

Allison Mack was a regular fixture of the DC Universe in Smallville where she played Chloe Sullivan, but she only appeared in 6 episodes of the show's final season. Sullivan had the second-longest tenure on the series, behind only Tom Welling, and appeared in 205 episodes, including many of Smallville's most rewatchable episodes. The Superman prequel series pulled the bulk of its main characters from the comic book lore of Superman and Superboy. However, Allison Mack's Chloe Sullivan was an exception, with the charismatic journalist character being an original addition by the show's writers.

Considering the regular departures of the cast from the series, Allison Mack's persistence on the show is notable.

Tom Welling's Older Superman Gets DC Comics New 52 Style Suit In Stunning Smallville Art
Image
Smallville fan art reveals Tom Welling's potential Superman costume. Tom Welling was a perfect Clark Kent, but the show lacked a full Superman reveal. A possible Smallville animated spin-off could show Welling's Superman.

Smallville may have disappointed fans with a lacking Superman costume reveal in the finale, but some fan art has finally showcased exactly what Tom Welling in the suit could have looked like. Smallville aired on The WB at the end of 2001, and continued for 10 seasons, transitioning to The CW when the channel combined with Upn in 2006. The show provided insight into the early years of the world's most powerful superhero.

Smallville did an excellent job providing an origin for the Man of Steel, and showcasing the struggles of living with superpowers as a young man in school. However, it suffered from a lack of development when the show never saw the boy wonder become the Man of Tomorrow.

You know, we're working on it, and we have some loose animation that we've worked [on] with someone who was just awesome. It looks great. So if we can get that made, that'd be awesome."

7 Best Shows Like ‘My Adventures With Superman’ To Watch If You Love The Series

My Adventures with Superman is one of the most brilliant superhero animated series. Created by Brendan Clougher, Jake Wyatt, and Josie Campbell, the Adult Swim series tells the story of Superman aka Clark Kent as he starts his new job at The Daily Planet, with his roommate Jimmy Olson, and his senior intern at The Daily Planet who is none other than Lois Lane. They quickly become a team and try to bring in big stories so that they can become real reporters while Clark also tries to become the hero he is meant to be. My Adventures with Superman has great action but the brilliant thing about the series is that it isn’t an action series about Superman, it’s a series about a superhero and his relationships as he figures out who he really is. Smallville: When Each Main Character Discovered Clark Was Superman
Image
Main characters in Smallville discovered Clark Kent's Superman secret at different times, complicating his relationships. Superman's morality contrasted with Clark Kent's need for secrecy, leading to tension and eventual reveals. Despite not fully becoming Superman in the show, Clark's evolution into the hero was a central theme of Smallville.

Each of the main characters in Smallville discovered the truth about Clark Kent (Tom Welling) being Superman at very different times in the series. Like most superhero stories, one of the most important elements of Smallville was Clark's secret identity. Since the pilot episode, Clark tried to protect the secret of his powers and his Kryptonian heritage from the people around him, but there were times when Clark either failed to hide the truth or was compelled to come clean.

Because of Superman's morality, he'll always be known as the Big Blue Boy Scout, but throughout most of Smallville, Clark...

Tom Welling's Older Superman & Erica Durance's Older Lois Lane Imagined In Stunning Smallville Art
Image
Smallville fan art showcases an older Superman and Lois Lane, imagining what they would look like if the show had continued beyond season 10. The artist imagines new outfits for the couple, including a full Superman costume for Clark Kent. Smallville ended with season 10, but continued on in a DC Comics series. Tom Welling also returned in The CW's Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event.

Tom Welling and Erica Durance's popular versions of Superman and Lois Lane have been reimagined in a new piece of Smallville fan art that shows an older version of DC's most famous couple. Smallville ended about 13 years ago, but remains a popular version of the Superman story. Part of this is because Smallville has held up remarkably well for an older superhero show. Smallville's continued popularity is probably also in part due to stars Michael Rosenbaum and Welling's rewatch podcast, Talk Ville.

Smallville Never Knew What to Do With Lana Lang
Image
This article contains spoilers for Smallville.

There’s no doubt that Lois (Erica Durance) and Clark (Tom Welling) were the right endgame for Smallville. And not just because Lois and Clark almost always inevitably end up together. Their years of loathing turning to respect and then love makes for some great TV, and Durance and Welling’s chemistry is incredible. However, even though Smallville mostly hit the mark with Clark’s love-life by the end of the series, his first love, Lana Lang (Kristin Kreuk), deserved so much better than the arc she was given.

By the time Clark and Lana get together in the series, Lana already knows that something is up with Clark. He’s somehow always there to save her when she’s in danger or just generally involved with all of the weird stuff going on in town. His farm boy charms also aren’t really...

In a recent interview, Michael Rosenbaum, who played Lex Luthor on Smallville, divulged some details about a possible animated sequel to the Superman TV show.

Speaking to ScreenRant, Rosenbaum, who boasts the longest stint as live-action Lex Luthor, shared, "It's a great idea. We have Al [Gough] and Miles [Millar], the creators of Smallville, backing us up. When it's the right time, we'd like to go and do this; pitch to Warner Bros." Despite his confidence in the idea, the actor emphasized that it must be done at the right time, referencing the strike, recent changes at DC, and the new reign of James Gunn.

Michael Rosenbaum, who played Lex Luthor in Smallville, is opening up about the idea he has for a sequel series in an animated form.

10 Superhero Movie Actors You Totally Forgot Were On Smallville
Image
Smallville served as a platform for young actors to showcase their talents in superhero roles before major superhero franchises existed. Audiences may be pleasantly surprised to see familiar superhero actors interacting with Tom Welling's Clark Kent in Smallville. Smallville included intentional Superman cameos and cameos from previous actors connected to Superman, although young audiences may not have recognized them at the time.

Smallville's cast included many big-name superhero actors over its 10-year run. Some were intentional Superman cameos, while others were early roles for stars who would go on to have major superhero roles. Smallville originally aired back in 2001 before massive superhero franchises like the MCU or Dcu even existed, and it served as a good jumping off point for many young actors to show off their talents in superhero roles. The show also made sure to include cameos from previous actors who had connections to Superman, though...

Smallville Creators Reveal Major Fan Theory Almost Came True
Image
Smallville creators considered making Chloe Sullivan become Lois Lane, but couldn't initially get permission to use the character. There was a negotiation process to get Lois Lane on the show, starting with limited appearances and eventually becoming a regular character. Peter Roth, the head of Wbtv, made the decision to keep Lois Lane on Smallville permanently.

A major Smallville fan theory was once close to happening. Tom Welling led Smallville for 10 seasons, with the series telling the story of how Clark Kent became Superman. Smallville featured exciting original characters alongside marquee names from DC Comics. One of such original characters was Allison Mack's Chloe Sullivan, but it appears the character could have been retroactively turned into a major DC name.

On the TalkVille podcast (via Comicbook.com), Smallville creators Miles Millar and Al Gough confirmed that they thought about making Chloe Sullivan become Lois Lane in the series. Speaking with...

Smallville Creators Confirm They Considered Making One Lois Lane Fan Theory Reality
Image
Smallville's creators considered the possibility that Chloe Sullivan could become Lois Lane, but ultimately got Erica Durance for the role. Erica Durance's chemistry with Tom Welling was just as effective as that of Allison Mack, but Lois and Clark's relationship was different. Smallville could potentially continue in some way, as Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum are developing an animated series with much of the original cast.

Smallville's creators finally confirm that a popular fan theory about Lois Lane is not entirely wrong, as it was considered by the writers of the successful series based on the Superman universe.

Making its debut in 2001, Smallville told the story of Clark Kent during his adolescence, years before he put on the blue suit and became the hero of Metropolis. The series featured a long list of characters from the Superman franchise, such as Lex Luthor and Lana Lang, but also some new ones,...

Smallville Creators Confirm Fan Theory About Lois Lane Was Discussed
Image
An original plan for Lois Lane on Smallville was what fans had been theorizing for the first three seasons.

Starring Tom Welling as a young Clark Kent, Smallville served as an origin story, delving into the life of the budding superhero in the years before he'd actually suit up as Superman. The first three seasons did not include Lois Lane, and at the time, there was a popular fan theory that Allison Mack's Chloe was being set up to become the character, perhaps by having her name legally changed to Lois Lane. Of course, that theory was dashed when Erica Durance debuted as Lois in Smallville's fourth season, but as creators Miles Millar and Al Gough confirm on the TalkVille podcast, the fans still weren't far off with their original prediction.

Smallville Creators Reveal They at One Point ‘Discussed’ Chloe Turning Out to Be Lois Lane

“Chlois,” it turns out, was — for a hot second, and before Smallville was ever pitched as a series — more than just what would one day be a wild fan theory.

Back during the superhero drama’s run, “Chlois” was a theory that Chloe Sullivan (played by original cast member Allison Mack) would somehow, some way turn out to be the iconic Lois Lane — possibly by adopting “Lois Lane,” her onetime pseudonym, as a new identity (and by some accounts, gulp, in the wake of the real Lois’ demise).

Smallville's Tom Welling Suits Back Up as Superman in DC Fan Art
Image
Smallville was an incredibly popular show that ran from 2001-2011. However, despite new episodes of the show not airing in over a decade, fans remain devoted, creating fan art that shows Tom Welling as an older Superman.

Per ScreenRant, fans of Smallville are imagining what Welling, who played the budding superhero in the CW show, may look like if he were to put the cape back on. Part of what is stoking the flames of new AI-generated artwork is the announcement of a new Superman film in James Gunn’s Dcu, titled Superman: Legacy. When Gunn announced that Henry Cavill would not return as the Man of Steel, audiences began to speculate about who would take up the mantle in the new superhero franchise. One of the names that came up most was Welling, as his performance as Clark Kent is beloved. To the disappointment of some, Welling did not get the nod,...

10 Harsh Realities Of Rewatching Smallville, 12 Years After It Ended
Image
The Clark and Lana romance storyline was repetitive and went on for too long, overshadowing other character development. Allison Mack's real world charges make her scenes as Chloe in Smallville distracting. Smallville lasted for too many seasons, with the show changing significantly after its seventh season.

There are some harsh realities to rewatching Smallville 12 years after the show's series finale. Smallville is the Superman prequel series that debuted in 2001 on The WB, which later became The CW. The series starred Tom Welling as Clark Kent, chronicling his adventures as a high school student in Smallville who discovers that he has powers, and with them comes the knowledge of his past on the destroyed planet Krypton. Clark must come to terms with his dual life as a powerful Kryptonian and as a small-town teen.

While Clark's journey starts with him in high school, the series is not contained to that early premise,...

The Boys and The Bear Show Off the Power of Platonic Relationships
Image
This article contains spoilers for The Bear Season 2, now streaming on Hulu.

For a lot of movies and shows, romance is necessary to pique viewers' interest. For The Boys, Hughie (Jack Quaid) and Starlight's (Erin Moriarty) romance is at the forefront, but in almost every series, romance isn't just focused on one couple. It's present in every secondary character in one way or another. The same can be said for The Bear, where, in Season 2, Carmy begins a romance with Clarie while other characters still find themselves looking for love.

It's typical to have two people of the opposite sex be friends. But, somehow, romance usually gets involved, such as the relationship between Chloe (Allison Mack) and Clark (Tom Welling) in Smallville. They were best friends during the entire series. However, a good chunk of their friendship revolved around unrequited love, and it eventually grew tired. On the other side of the spectrum,...
