Younger brother of Ron Howard.

Reprised his Jornada nas Estrelas (1966) role as "Balok" for a gag during Comedy Central's "Roast of William Shatner".

Has appeared with Malcolm McDowell in five films: Get Crazy: Na Zorra do Rock (1983), Louco, Eu? (1990), O Guerreiro da Estrela Polar (1995), Assalto Relâmpago (2006) and Halloween - O Início (2007). Both actors have also individually worked as Star Trek guest stars.

Along with Majel Barrett, Joseph Ruskin, Jack Donner and Vince Deadrick Sr., he is one of only five actors to appear in both Jornada nas Estrelas (1966) and Jornada nas Estrelas: Enterprise (2001).

According to MTV's John Norris, his 1998 MTV Movie Awards' "Lifetime Achievement" award legitimized the category, which had, until that year, been somewhat of a joke among the crew of the annual show.

In 1977, he graduated from John Burroughs High School in Burbank, California where he was a pitcher on the varsity baseball team The Indians and correspondent/photographer for the school newspaper The Smoke Signal.

Enjoyed golf and played 150 rounds a year before getting a hip replacement. Makes snow globes in his free time.

One of his articles in the school newspaper won him the Pepperdine University High School journalism award for page design. The award included automatic admission to the university and one year's paid tuition.

Has English, German, Scottish, Irish, and remote Dutch ancestry.

Shares a birthday with George Takei whom he appeared with in The Corbomite Maneuver (1966).

Won national recognition for his high school journalism in a Columbia University competition.

Stepson of Los Angeles Times columnist and playwright Judy Howard.

Son of Rance Howard and Jean Speegle Howard.

He appeared as a child actor in the Star Trek (TOS) episode The Corbomite Maneuver (1966) (#1.10). He appeared as a Ferengi in the Star Trek: Enterprise episode Acquisition (2002) (#1.19).
