Deadline shared a brief overview of the series: "It is described as part hopeful family drama, part epic survival tale, and part origin story of the American West.

Rejoice, Little House on the Prairie fans. You might never think a reboot of the hit 1970s series starring Michael Landon would be worth watching, but Netflix will make a run at it.

The series was previously rumored to be heading toward pre-production, and this week, Netflix delivered the news about who will make up the main cast. Some of the faces are familiar, but not all—just the way Netflix planned.

Netflix's Little House on the Prairie reboot has officially cast two core members of the Ingalls family: Ma and Pa. A release date for the new adaptation of Laura Ingalls Wilder's book series has not been announced at this time.

Per Deadline, Luke Bracey will play Charles Ingalls, the family's father. He will be joined by Crosby Fitzgerald (Palm Royale) as Caroline, the mother of Mary and Laura. Previous casting announcements have revealed that the series will star Alice Halsey (Lessons in Chemistry) as Laura, with Skywalker Hughes (Joe Pickett) as her older sister. The latest casting announcements round out the main Ingalls family cast that fans can expect to see in the majority of the series' episodes.

The plans for a Little House on the Prairie reboot stem all the way back to 2012, when Sony Pictures announced a new film adaptation of the Little House books was in development.

Netflix’s Little House on the Prairie is moving quickly to fill out its core cast.

On the heels of announcing Alice Halsey will play Laura Ingalls in the series, the streamer has cast Luke Bracey, Crosby Fitzgerald and Skywalker Hughes as other members of the Ingalls family.

Bracey (Elvis, Little Fires Everywhere) will play Charles Ingalls, the family’s patriarch. Fitzgerald (Palm Royale) is set to play Caroline, Charles’ wife and the mother of older daughter Mary, who will be played by Skywalker Hughes (Joe Pickett), and Laura.

CBS Studios and Anonymous Content Studio are producing Little House, which is based on Laura Ingalls Wilder’s semi-autobiographical novels. The books previously formed the basis for a 1974-83 series that starred Melissa Gilbert as Laura, Michael Landon as Charles, Karen Grassle as Caroline and Melissa Sue Anderson as Mary. Landon also executive produced the earlier series and directed dozens of episodes.

Jack Lilley, the stunt performer and actor who made a home for himself on Little House on the Prairie by working on every one of the beloved NBC drama’s nine seasons, has died. He was 91.

Lilley had Alzheimer’s disease and died Wednesday at the Motion Picture & Television Country House and Hospital in Woodland Hills, his granddaughter Savanah Lilley told The Signal, a news outlet in Santa Clarita.

In Blazing Saddles (1974), Lilley played one of the outlaws who loots the town of Rock Ridge, and in one scene, he and his horse slide into a pool of mud and are submerged. It was an accident, but director Mel Brooks liked it so much, he kept it in the movie.

In an interview with EW, Melissa Gilbert, aka the Laura in the long-running NBC series from 1974-1984, said, “there’s room in the Little House universe for all different kinds of stories to be told, just like there was always room in the Little Women universe to keep retelling that story.”

Even now, most Western films focus on gunfights and familiar drama. There’s little room for groundbreaking social commentary between sweaty brows and quivering trigger fingers. When they’re not rolling in barrages of bullets, Westerns generally focus on interpersonal squabbles.

On a more comparable level, most of Bonanza’s contemporaries championed a rosy agrarian lifestyle. Gunsmoke generally praised the rough-and-tumble life of an old-fashioned farmer. Conversely, shows like The Big Valley painted cheerful pictures of nuclear families and doting matrons.

Little House on the Prairie is getting reimagined, becoming the latest TV series from the past to be given the reboot treatment, courtesy of Netflix. While this has led to comments that the new version might be more "woke," one of the stars of the classic series says Little House on the Prairie has actually been woke all along.

After it was reported that Little House on the Prairie was getting rebooted, right-wing pundit Megyn Kelly posted on X, "[Netflix] if you wokeify Little House on the Prairie I will make it my singular mission to absolutely ruin your project." The post was liked over 79K times as of this writing with more than 8.6K shares. Netflix ordered the series shortly after Nielson reported that viewers watched 13.25 billion minutes of Little House on the Prairie on Peacock over the past year. That is impressive.

CBS Studios is producing the new Little House. Rebecca Sonnenshine (The Boys) is the showrunner, and Trip Friendly of Friendly Family Productions is also an executive producer.

They’ll do another reimagining of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s book series. The official logline reads as follows:

Because formulaic sitcoms are typically meant to be consumed as quickly digested standalone episodes, they do not often deal with the heaviness of death. When they do acknowledge the ultimate bummer, it's usually because their hand has been forced by powers beyond the writers' control, like a combative John Amos getting fired by the producers of "Good Times" or Nicholas Colasanto dying after Season 3 of "Cheers."

This makes the conundrum facing writers who work within the "Big Bang Theory" universe particularly interesting. During the sitcom's initial 12-season run, its creatives had ample time to fill in bits and pieces of every character's backstory. This gave the likes of Leonard (Johnny Galecki), Penny (Kaley Cuoco), and Howard (Simon Helberg) a little more depth while also opening up narrative avenues for the writers to explore as the immensely popular series kept getting renewed.

The wholesome goodness of the show was a bit of a reprieve from the news at the end of the Vietnam War and the oil crisis later in the decade. People could tune into the show, feel good about life for a bit, and then go back to their regular lives.

Mitzi Gaynor, star of 1950s big-screen musicals including “South Pacific” and “Les Girls” and a series of beloved variety specials in the 1970s, died on Thursday. She was 93.

Gaynor’s management team, Rene Reyes and Shane Rosamonda, confirmed to Variety that she died of natural causes.

“For eight decades she entertained audiences in films, on television and on the stage. She truly enjoyed every moment of her professional career and the great privilege of being an entertainer,” Reyes and Rosamonda wrote in a statement on Gaynor’s X account. “Off stage, she was a vibrant and extraordinary woman, a caring and loyal friend, and a warm, gracious, very funny and altogether glorious human being.”

Overcoming the "rural purge" that plagued television at the time, Little House defied all odds by airing for a decade on the network at a time when audiences were craving urbanized narratives and anything that wasn't a Western. Helmed by Michael Landon, Little House was based on the even more beloved series of novels by Laura Ingalls Wilder, who chronicled her own upbringing on the Midwestern prairies she called home. But a few years back, Paramount announced their intentions to reboot Little House on the Prairie with a feature film production that would re-tell the familiar tale for new 21st-century audiences. Whatever happened to that project? Well, it sort of fizzled out.
