NBC's classic Western show "Little House on the Prairie" was filmed from 1974 to 1983. During this time, the story of the Ingalls family and their family-friendly toil and trouble won four Emmys and numerous other awards -- as well as the hearts of the viewers. Thanks to its lengthy tenure, "Little House on the Prairie" featured an impressive cast of characters for a show that takes place in a small frontier settlement. Famous names like "Arrested Development" and "Ozark" star Jason Bateman (whose first screen acting role was the adopted late-game Ingalls kid, James) visited the titular Plum Creek farm and its neighboring small town of Walnut Grove during the show's lifetime. However, the series' main cast remained aboard for so much of its run that its audience came to know their characters the best.

Rejoice, Little House on the Prairie fans. You might never think a reboot of the hit 1970s series starring Michael Landon would be worth watching, but Netflix will make a run at it.
The series was previously rumored to be heading toward pre-production, and this week, Netflix delivered the news about who will make up the main cast. Some of the faces are familiar, but not all—just the way Netflix planned.
There is little else known at this time about the number of episodes or the release date, but at least knowing the cast is a start. Here is what we know so far.

Damon Wayans Sr. knew that Jim Carrey was going to be a superstar when he saw Carrey perform live. That impression battle must have gone crazy.
Despite only lasting for four years, the Wayans family’s irreverent sketch show In Living Color has its fingerprints all over the last 30 years of popular comedy and pop culture as a whole. The hipper, sharper, less homogeneously pale answer to the dominance of Saturday Night Live jump-started the careers of many of America’s most beloved entertainers, not the least of which are the Wayans brothers themselves. When show creator Keenen Ivory Wayans and his now-famous family walked away from In Living Color in 1994, they left behind a legacy that continues to grow any time Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Lopez or Jim Carrey make another hit.

There are few American archetypes that are more enduring and iconic than that of cowboys in the Wild West. From pulp paperback novels to the silver screen, Westerns have been thrilling audiences worldwide for over a century, with that distinction also spreading to television shows. Westerns once dominated the television airwaves in the United States, with some of the longest-running shows in the medium's history coming from the genre. As a testament to their timeless appeal, Westerns have seen a resurgence of popularity recently.
As their ubiquity solidified, Westerns have expanded beyond their usual American Southwest period piece setting with grounded stakes. The genre has proven flexible enough to incorporate different global environments, time periods, even lacing in elements of the supernatural and science fiction. What are constants within the genre are people standing up in largely lawless and remote areas to defend themselves from those that would openly exploit them.

"The little house family has lost one of our own. Jack Lilley has passed away . He was 91 years old," Gilbert wrote. "He also happened to be one of my favorite people on the planet. He taught me how to ride...

Sometimes even the best television shows are victims of their own success, running longer than their natural story should at the expense of their overall quality. From will-they/won't-they romances fulfilled too quickly or the show trying to prolong its central conflicts and mysteries, popular shows try to artificially draw out their narratives to maintain audiences. This leaves even the most ardent fans of a given show acknowledging that there are lesser seasons missing the magic that made the series so successful. A perfect show knows when to call it quits before it overstays its welcome, but very few of them can take that hint.
Simply put, even many beloved shows just try to milk the last bit of success they can, even after enduring changes to their overarching plot or main cast. In doing so, the legacy of these prolonged series is a bit tarnished from their previous esteemed status.

There are a handful of book series that are geared towards girls and young women that have managed to really stand the test of time, like the always-fun "The Baby-Sitters Club," and one of the great classics, "Little House on the Prairie." The semi-autobiographical novels by Laura Ingalls Wilder followed her family as they made their lives on a tiny farmstead near Plum Creek and the town of Walnut Grove, Minnesota, from the 1870s through the 1890s. The beloved novels were turned into a TV movie and then a television series by NBC, starring Michael Landon as patriarch Charles Ingalls, Karen Grassle as his wife Caroline, Melissa Gilbert as middle daughter Laura, Melissa Sue Anderson as Laura's older sister Mary, and twins Lindsay and Sidney Greenbush as younger sister Carrie Ingalls. The series ran for nine seasons, from 1974 through 1983, giving audiences nearly a decade to get to know the Ingalls...

It's been 41 years since the story of Little House on the Prairie came to its explosive conclusion. A lot has been said about the controversial ending to the show over the years, and one of its stars is now offering new insight into the fiery finale.
Inspired by the Laura Ingalls Wilder book series, Little House on the Prairie was a family-friendly series that followed the members of a farm family in the late 1800s. The series premiered on NBC in 1974, and it would ultimately last nine seasons before ending its story with the TV special Little House:The Last Farewell in 1984. In The Last Farewell, the town is literally blown apart as the residents take turns destroying their own buildings after the land in Walnut Grove is seized by a tycoon. TV’s original Laura Ingalls is speaking out about Netflix’s plans to reboot Little House on the Prairie.
In an interview with EW, Melissa Gilbert, aka the Laura in the long-running NBC series from 1974-1984, said, “there’s room in the Little House universe for all different kinds of stories to be told, just like there was always room in the Little Women universe to keep retelling that story.”
“These are classic stories, and no one’s done it where they hewed to the books completely,” Gilbert said. “[The original] was Michael Landon’s interpretation, and now it’s time for someone else’s interpretation. And I think there’s plenty of room for that. And I think there’s a lot of other stories to mine beyond that. So I think this opens the door in a lot of ways for all kinds of Little House on the Prairie projects.

Reboots are all the rage now, and here’s a quick rundown of every network show that is getting the treatment!
“Everything old is new again” surely applies to TV these days. It’s like you can’t flip a channel or put on a streamer without a new take on an old show, some of which went off the air not that long ago. Paramount+ just canceled the revival of Fraiser and some old cable shows like White Collar may get the sequel treatment soon.
For network shows, it looks like reboots won’t be dying anytime soon. Networks rely on name recognition for a TV show and often help if the original actors or creators take part in it. Some shows may seem to not need a reboot, while others are shows fans would love to see coming back.

Original “Little House on the Prairie” actors Dean Butler and Alison Arngrim are quelling concerns that the recently announced reboot will tarnish the legacy of the beloved 1974 drama.
In a recent interview with Remind, Arngrim, who played Nellie Oleson in the original “Little House,” said she’s heard two distinct fan reactions to the reboot: “People are like, ‘Oh my God, yay, a reboot. It’s the greatest thing that ever happened. The second coming.’ Or [they say], ‘No, no, no, not a reboot. The show is perfect. Don’t touch it.’ And they’re getting upset about it.”
Arngrim clarified the new series is “not really like a reboot” since it will be more faithful to Laura Wilder’s original books than the TV show. She hopes this fact will calm the nerves of “Little House” purists.
“So concerns that they’re going to run amok away from the books and make it into something weird,...

It’s time to go back to Little House on the Prairie. The Ingalls family and the rest of Walnut Grove are coming to Netflix.
It’s Time To Go Back, Way Back
The original Little House ran from 1974-1983, and anyone who grew up in that era can attest to its popularity. The show was based on the books by Laura Ingalls Wilder. Melissa Gilbert famously played Laura, affectionately known as “Half-Pint,” along with Michael Landon as “Pa,” Karen Grassle as “Ma,” and Melissa Sue Anderson as Mary. The series depicted a hard-working family getting through life in the American Midwest in the late 1800s.
The reboot will be based on the third book in the series. Trip Friendly, the son of the original show’s producer, Ed Friendly, will be the Executive Producer. Rebecca Sonnenshine is the Showrunner. No details or date for the reboot have been released yet.

When it comes to the film industry, there is no shortage of ‘nepo baby,’ short for nepotism kids who have found a place in the industry thanks to their famous parents, relatives, or friends. Over the years, several actors, directors, and more have been labeled as such by fans, having their ‘nepo baby’ tag overshadowing their work and talent.

When discussing Western classics, one name will invariably pop up again and again: Bonanza. And it’s definitely earned its spot in the cow rustling pantheon. The beloved Western show began in 1959 and didn’t end until 1973, meaning it had a hat-raising fourteen-year run. Bonanza’s longevity is only surpassed by one other legend, Gunsmoke, and its characters are just as memorable. However, the long-running television icon has a markedly rebellious spirit. Even now, most Western films focus on gunfights and familiar drama. There’s little room for groundbreaking social commentary between sweaty brows and quivering trigger fingers. When they’re not rolling in barrages of bullets, Westerns generally focus on interpersonal squabbles.
On a more comparable level, most of Bonanza’s contemporaries championed a rosy agrarian lifestyle. Gunsmoke generally praised the rough-and-tumble life of an old-fashioned farmer. Conversely, shows like The Big Valley painted cheerful pictures of nuclear families and doting matrons.

Netflix announced this week that it’s traveling back to Walnut Grove by ordering a reboot of my favorite childhood series. I’m dumbfounded.
Little House on the Prairie, the beloved 1970s drama starring Michael Landon and Melissa Gilbert, should stay nostalgic and beloved.
Not every old television show needs to be modernized, even if it has recently experienced a resurgence in streaming.
(NBC/Screenshot)
Netflix ordered the series shortly after Nielson reported that viewers watched 13.25 billion minutes of Little House on the Prairie on Peacock over the past year. That is impressive.
CBS Studios is producing the new Little House. Rebecca Sonnenshine (The Boys) is the showrunner, and Trip Friendly of Friendly Family Productions is also an executive producer.
They’ll do another reimagining of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s book series. The official logline reads as follows:

Because formulaic sitcoms are typically meant to be consumed as quickly digested standalone episodes, they do not often deal with the heaviness of death. When they do acknowledge the ultimate bummer, it's usually because their hand has been forced by powers beyond the writers' control, like a combative John Amos getting fired by the producers of "Good Times" or Nicholas Colasanto dying after Season 3 of "Cheers."
This makes the conundrum facing writers who work within the "Big Bang Theory" universe particularly interesting. During the sitcom's initial 12-season run, its creatives had ample time to fill in bits and pieces of every character's backstory. This gave the likes of Leonard (Johnny Galecki), Penny (Kaley Cuoco), and Howard (Simon Helberg) a little more depth while also opening up narrative avenues for the writers to explore as the immensely popular series kept getting renewed.

The 90s cult classic WesternTombstone tells the story of best friends Wyatt Earp (Kurt Russell) and Doc Holliday (Val Kilmer), and their quest to get revenge on the vicious gang that claimed the life of Earp's brother. With high-stakes shootouts, a thrilling horseback chase, and plenty of bar brawls, the film makes good use of the genre's most popular tropes. While the movie has no sequels or spin-offs, there are plenty of options for fans looking for another Western fix.
Tombstone's central characters are bona fide legends of American history whose lives have been explored in countless films and TV shows over the years. Little House on the Prairie was a staple in many homes in the 1970s. The wholesome goodness of the show was a bit of a reprieve from the news at the end of the Vietnam War and the oil crisis later in the decade. People could tune into the show, feel good about life for a bit, and then go back to their regular lives.
The NBC series was adapted from Laura Ingalls Wilder's books mostly stemmed from the 1930s and 1940s. What viewers saw when they tuned in between 1974 and 1983, with over 200 total episodes, was not something they would have seen in the '70s. Life seemed more quaint on Little House, even though it was fraught with some danger, too.

It's hard to believe that it's been 50 years since Little House on the Prairie first premiered on NBC. Overcoming the "rural purge" that plagued television at the time, Little House defied all odds by airing for a decade on the network at a time when audiences were craving urbanized narratives and anything that wasn't a Western. Helmed by Michael Landon, Little House was based on the even more beloved series of novels by Laura Ingalls Wilder, who chronicled her own upbringing on the Midwestern prairies she called home. But a few years back, Paramount announced their intentions to reboot Little House on the Prairie with a feature film production that would re-tell the familiar tale for new 21st-century audiences. Whatever happened to that project? Well, it sort of fizzled out.
