It’s hard to imagine Tom Cruise saying goodbye to Ethan Hunt, the character he’s dutifully portrayed since 1996’s Mission: Impossible. But everything from the name (The Final Reckoning) to the trailer’s closing moment (“I need you to trust me one last time”) sure makes it seem like the end of the road for a character that’s outlasted countless crises, two James Bonds, and five presidential administrations.

Clint Eastwood’s 2018 crime drama The Mule has climbed into Netflix’s top 10 movies this week, reaching the number 7 spot. Utopia has acquired North American rights to Megadoc, a new documentary on the making of Francis Ford Coppola’s epic Megalopolis, which premiered a year ago at Cannes before going on to a nationwide theatrical release via Lionsgate.

The doc, from Oscar-nominated filmmaker Mike Figgis (Leaving Las Vegas), will be released in theaters this fall.

The making-of project emerged from a chance encounter, sparked by an email between two old friends, with Coppola inviting Figgis to the Megalopolis set in the lead-up to the first day of principal photography and granting him permission to document whatever he wished. Armed with a small camera and crew throughout the entire shoot, Figgis’ unrestricted access to the production gave way to Megadoc, a unique look into the creative process of one of the most revered directors of all time, and behind the curtain of the most ambitious film of his career.

Acclaimed filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola says he doesn't "want anyone to own" Megalopoliswhile it's still in theaters.

According to sources close to the Oscar-winning legend, Coppola’s ill-fated box office calamity Megalopolis will never become available to stream, rent, or purchase on physical media. “He wants it to play in theaters, the way it was intended,” one unnamed source told The Hollywood Reporter.

In some ways ,it could be argued that Megalopolis is the last movie of its kind. Coppola used $120 million of his own fortune to produce the passion project independently and premiered the work at the Cannes Film Festival last year to mixed responses. Roughly one month after the Cannes premiere, Lionsgate purchased the distribution rights with a promise to release Megalopolis in theaters and on premium large format (Plf) screens later in the fall while Coppola retained the project’s ownership.

More often than not, the movie laid out in the first draft of a script is radically different from the one audiences see in movie theaters. It's always fun to get a glimpse into the "what-could-have-beens" of cinema, and that's especially true for the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe hit.

When the first two sequels to the Wachowskis' "The Matrix," titled "The Matrix Reloaded" and "The Matrix Revolutions," both released in theaters in 2003, it set a strange precedent for Hollywood blockbuster filmmaking. Certain 2000s-era hits, rather than getting a single expected sequel, were granted a gigantic, outsize, super-sequel finale that was released in two parts. In addition to "The Matrix," major studios also took a "mega-sequel finale" approach to "Pirates of the Caribbean," "Harry Potter," "Twilight," and "The Hunger Games." Indeed, "Mission: Impossible" has since done the same thing with "Dead Reckoning" and "The Final Reckoning." Heck, even Marvel Studios made an "Avengers" mega-sequel-finale with "Infinity War" and "Endgame."

"The Matrix," however, also proved that the mega-sequel approach doesn't always work well. While "Reloaded" and "Revolutions" were hugely ambitious and exciting hits, they were also overstuffed, clunky, and wrestled with too many ideas. The mythology also became far too complicated for its own good.

Exclusive: Jessica Alba (Trigger Warning) has signed on to lead action thriller The Mark, a spy flick set to begin production in Australia in July.

In the film from director Justin Chadwick (Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom), Alba plays Eden, an enigmatic spy on a covert and dangerous mission. When Eden pulls single father Ben Dawson into her world of high-stakes espionage, his life is turned upside down. Mistaken for the world’s deadliest assassin, Ben becomes the perfect decoy for Eden. She uses the mix-up to expose a powerful network of corrupt politicians, placing Ben in the crosshairs of the CIA, Interpol, and ruthless crime syndicates. With enemies closing in from all sides, Eden must keep Ben alive long enough to complete her mission — while Ben must summon his inner action hero to stay alive and return to the person who matters most: his daughter.

Netflix's The Witcher was dealt a heavy blow when it lost Henry Cavill after Season 3. But, the show is bouncing back for its final two seasons. Alongside Liam Hemsworth taking over from Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, the series also secured The Matrix star, Laurence Fishburne, to play a major character in the final two seasons: the higher vampire, Regis. Fans of Andrzej Sapkowski's novels have been excited to see Fishburne bring Regis to life since his casting was announced, and we now have our best look at the actor in costume.

Shared by Redanian Intelligence, the new set photos show Hemsworth striking a pose as Geralt in a break between filming on the hit Netflix series, as well as chatting with his stunt double. The images also feature the best look yet at The Matrix and John Wick alum Laurence Fishburne as barber-surgeon/vampire Regis, a beloved character from the novels and The Witcher III: The Wild Hunt’s acclaimed Blood and Wine expansion. The Witcher season 4 is set to premiere on Netflix later this year, but it will be minus Henry Cavill's Geralt of Rivia. The Man of Steel and Justice League star left the series shortly after season 3, with The Hunger Games' Liam Hemsworth quickly announced as his replacement.

Hemsworth, who is also known for The Expendables 2 and Independence Day: Resurgence, has only two seasons to show what he can do as the fan-favourite character. Francis Ford Coppola isn’t done with “Megalopolis.” After Quentin Tarantino wrote a novel version of his “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” feature (which is now getting a sequel from David Fincher), Coppola has announced that he is turning his 2024 film “Megalopolis” into a graphic novel.

The book will be written by Chris Ryall, who has adapted Stephen King, Clive Barker, and Harlan Ellison’s works as well. Coppola explains that while it’s inspired by the film, it will be much more than that.
