My Hero Academia is a story that never shies away from pushing its characters to the breaking point. I love the series because it is fine with killing off characters to push the narrative, and while most of these deaths feel deserved and complete, like Stain or Gigantomachia, one particular death felt completely unacceptable to me.

Kurogiri’s death felt like a betrayal and didn’t fit in with the story and its value of redemption. I liked Stain’s death because he died protecting his hero, All Might, and Gigantomachia was killed by his master, All For One, which was poetic. Kurogiri’s backstory made him feel more human, and I thought he’d be redeemed. He deserved better than to die.
