Netflix’s upcoming animated series, Devil May Cry, has two things in common with the Castlevania animated series. First, they are both video game to anime adaptations. Second, Adi Shankar’s involvement. While Shankar is the executive producer for Castlevania, he created the anime adaptation of Devil May Cry.

Castlevania, Castlevania: Nocturne, and Devil May Cry come under what Shankar calls the “Bootleg Multiverse.” It initially started as a series of fan films for characters, such as The Punisher or Venom, by the creator himself, but it evolved into several official series. These two franchises have the potential to crossover into each other.

In 2018, Adi Shankar announced that a Devil May Cry animated series was in the works. It was in production for 7 years and will be released on 3rd April 2025.
