Selena Gomez snubbed by Oscars for ‘Emilia Pérez’
She may have come close, but Selena Gomez missed out on her first Oscar nomination. She was considered a Best Supporting Actress contender for her role in Emilia Pérez as Jessi, the wife of a Mexican drug lord who longs for freedom. However, when the nominations were unveiled Thursday, she missed the lineup that included her Emilia Pérez costar Zoe Saldaña, as well as fellow pop star Ariana Grande (Wicked), Monica Barbaro (A Complete Unknown), Felicity Jones (The Brutalist), and Isabella Rossellini (Conclave). Coming into the nominations, Gomez ranked ninth for Best Supporting Actress in Gold Derby’s odds based on the combined predictions of our users. Previously, she and her Emilia Pérez castmates Saldaña, Karla Sofía Gascón, and Adriana Paz jointly won Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2024, after which Gomez made the cut at the Golden Globes and the BAFTA Awards.
