If you’ve watched The Substance, you know it’s not the kind of film that screams for a sequel. However, in today’s world, where studios often try to squeeze every last penny out of successful movies, it’s natural to wonder if a follow-up might be in the works.

Thankfully, director Coralie Fargeat has put those thoughts to rest. In a recent chat with Variety, she confirmed there are no plans for a sequel. ‘The point of this movie is to bring fresh things to the world. No sequels, no prequels… I’m going to be happy to bring something fresh to the world in a bit,’ Fargeat explained.

Even if Mubi or Working Title decided to push ahead with a sequel and brought in a different director, it’s unlikely stars Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley would return.

Their characters meet pretty definitive ends in the film.
