After a messy and controversial 13th season of The Real Housewives of New York City, which concluded without a reunion, Bravo was forced to rethink its mothership show. It was plagued with accusations of racism and poor behavior behind the scenes from Og Housewives. It was also facing worryingly low viewing figures, with The Sun claiming episodes of Season 13 only had 764,000 live viewers.
A reboot of Rhony was announced in 2022, entirely replacing the cast of the reality show. The show was announced alongside a Legacy version featuring the original cast members, which never materialized. The Real Housewives of New York: Legacy was reformatted as The Real Housewives: Ultimate Girls Trip after contract negotiations with the original cast reportedly fell apart.
