Marvel Studios already has the perfect idea for an MCU sequel to Deadpool & Wolverine, thanks to a canceled six-year-old plan for a Deadpool 2 spinoff in 20th Century Fox's X-Men franchise. Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman's debut MCU movie as Deadpool and Wolverine has quickly become one of the franchise's most successful installments, which makes the development of a sequel all but inevitable. Whether Jackman reprises his long-running role of Wolverine yet again or not, Deadpool's return to the MCU could open up wild new opportunities for the ever-growing franchise.

Deadpool & Wolverine was initially expected to bring Wade Wilson's Merc with a Mouth permanently into the McU's main continuity of Earth-616, but this didn't happen. Instead, the 2024 movie ended with Earth-10005, the designation of Fox's X-Men universe, surviving Mr. Paradox and Cassandra Nova's attacks, and the universe's deterioration following its Anchor Being's demise was averted.
