A couple days back, a friend and I were talking about how “mid” movies are a thousand times worse than the ones that are just plain bad. No, Austin Peters’ beauty industry thriller doesn’t fall into either of these two categories. That chat only came to mind because it’d been a while since something from the third, most rare category fell into my lap. The type that does what it wants to do so well that you won’t need to go around making excuses for it. Elizabeth Banks-starrer Skincare has got to be one of the most shrewd and grounded thrillers weaved around the dark side of Hollywood’s beauty town that’s ever been made. And when I tell you that there’s a big chance that Skincare’s ending is not what you think it is, I totally mean it.
