Apparently, I’ve been a fan of the horror genre since before I could talk, which means I have nearly 3 decades of horror watching under my belt. So, whatever I say has at least some sort of credibility to it, you know? But disclaimer aside, if you couldn’t tell already by the title of this review, The Deliverance doesn’t deliver the perfect Black haunted house horror that we were all hoping it would. In fact, it flourishes as a family drama that waits way too long for the horror elements, which end up looking like an abrupt afterthought. Established director Lee Daniels has many masterpieces under his belt, and this is certainly something different from what he’s done before. The Deliverance tells the story of single mother Ebony, who moves her three kids and her mom into a new house in the hope of a fresh start.
