Daemon and Alys Rivers’ dynamic in House of the Dragon is really similar to that of Vikram-Betaal. If you’re new to Indian mythology and don’t know these two, let me explain further. Vikram was an Indian ruler who came across a corpse named Betaal. The King was tasked with bringing Betaal’s corpse to a ritual site, but as soon as the King lifted its body from the Banyan Tree, Betaal’s spirit appeared in front of him and started talking to the King in stories and riddles. With each story, the King gained new knowledge, and his perception of the world changed. He became a better person and a better ruler in particular.
