Despicable Me 4 Would Have Been So Much Better If It Focused On These Characters

Despicable Me 4's multiple plotlines distract from Gru and Poppy's compelling storyline. Gru and Poppy's relationship reflects franchise themes and could have carried the entire film. Future Despicable Me films should learn from the fourth film's mistakes and focus on central character-driven storylines.
Despicable Me 4 has a strong central character-driven storyline that would have been a lot better if the movie had fully focused on it. Despicable Me 4 is the sixth overall entry in the 13-year old franchise. Building off the events of the prior films, Despicable Me 4 sees Gru and his family forced to contend with a new threat in the form of Will Ferrell's villainous Maxime Le Mal. Upending their lives in the process, the movie quickly divides the characters into several different digressions.
