Latest ‘Star Wars’ Show Introduces a Non-Binary Character Going by They/Them Pronouns
‘Star Wars: Tales of the Empire’ is the latest entry into the ‘Star Wars’ franchise released on May 4. The show is an anthology split into two arcs one that follows Morgan Elsbeth and the other that follows former Jedi, Barriss Offee.
All six episodes were released on May 4th, in honor of Star Wars Day, but one episode in particular introduced the latest LGBTQ character to the fictional universe.
Episode 5 titled ‘Realization’ sees Barriss and the Fourth Sister, Inquisitors tasked with finding a hidden Jedi, interrogate villagers who reveal the Jedi’s location on a nearby mountain. Disillusioned by the Fourth Sister’s ruthless actions, Barriss aids the Jedi after convincing them to surrender. Barriss then confronts the Fourth Sister, using the Force to defeat her, and assists the wounded Jedi.
The nonbinary character in question is the wounded Jedi, who is referred to with they/them pronouns by both Barriss and the Fourth Sister.
