Aging is complicated. On one hand, to “age gracefully” is regarded as among the most noble things someone can do. When you allow yourself to embrace the fact that you’re getting older and accept life as it irreversibly rolls forward as an example of the beauty of mortality rather than the doom of it, it provides a sense of relief to the other way to view aging, which is as an existential threat. Because the future and death itself is unknowable, but what is knowable is what happens to the body and mind when you age, the process by which we lose our youth and become more susceptible to the myriad traumas of being a walking, talking, thinking meat suit.
