Grand Admiral Thrawn Breaks Star Wars' First Order Setup & Timeline
Grand Admiral Thrawn’s return in Ahsoka breaks the sequels’ First Order storyline and makes the Star Wars timeline confusing. Thrawn was created by Timothy Zahn for Heir to the Empire, a story set shortly after the events of Return of the Jedi as part of the Expanded Star Wars Universe. Heir to the Empire, as well as all the other Expanded Universe Star Wars stories, were labeled as Legends – non-canon properties – after Disney acquired Lucasfilm. However, Thrawn would return to the Star Wars canon in 2017 with Star Wars Rebels season 3.
