Godzilla vs. Kong 2 can pay off Godzilla: King of the Monsters by finding room for Godzilla’s minions. At the end of Godzilla’s second MonsterVerse movie, the iconic kaiju secured his position as the alpha of the Titans by beating Ghidorah. And in doing so, he acquired at least a handful of his own Titan underlings.

King of the Monsters set up Rodan, Methuselah, Behemoth, Scylla, and the third Muto to serve as allies of Godzilla in the MonsterVerse’s future, but all five were missing from Godzilla vs. Kong’s story. By choosing not to use them, the crossover film failed to give proper meaning to King of the Monsters’ ending. Beating Ghidorah made Godzilla the alpha, but that title doesn’t hold any significance if he doesn’t have monsters to command.
