What Is Mysaria's Accent On House Of The Dragon? Why It's So Divisive

Warning: Spoilers for House of the Dragon episode 9.House of the Dragon's Mysaria the White Worm continues to be a divisive character due to the way she speaks, but the criticism directed at actress Sonoya Mizuno misses the point of an enigmatic character having an equally enigmatic accent. HBO's prequel to Game of Thrones has explored a plethora of flawed, fascinating characters during its first nine episodes, such as the ineffective King Viserys. However, one character has accumulated a particular level of divisive discourse that is especially notable juxtaposed against her relative lack of screen time – Mysaria.
Canonically hailing from Lys, Mysaria's unusual accent represents both her Essos ancestry and the journey she has been on to arrive in the Targaryen inner circle. As such, it's perhaps unsurprising that her accent is an amalgamation of different regions, some of which seem alien in the world of House of the Dragon.
