Nigel Farage chatter dominates Twitter during ITV Leaders' Debate
The ITV Leaders' Debate caused a storm on Twitter yesterday evening (April 2), generating 1.5 million posts during its two-hour runtime.
There was an average of 8,657 tweets per minute during the programme and Ukip leader Nigel Farage dominated the chatter.
Farage's controversial claim that 60% of HIV sufferers in the UK are "not British Nationals" caused the biggest spike in conversation.
The politicians' closing speeches and a heckler being ejected from the audience also caused a flurry of activity on the social network.
Farage edged out prime minister David Cameron and Labour leader Ed Miliband as the most-talked about politician on Twitter during the broadcast.
However, poll results paint him as a Marmite figure, attracting as many negative comments as positive.
Labour emerged as the most-tweeted-about party, ahead of Snp and Ukip, with neither of the coalition parties making it into the top three.
