
Jennifer Aniston on 'Cake,' battling depression and coping with award craziness

It's frustrating to watch Jennifer Aniston's character in "Cake" battle depression after the death of her young son. Claire can't snap out of her psychological suffering and at times it seems like she doesn't want to. "I think people become comfortable with depression and it becomes part of their identity," Aniston says in our video chat below. Claire resists getting better because, "If she comes out of it, she feels she may forget her son. Moving on means you must let go." -Break- Aniston's powerful performance earned her Best Actress nominations from the Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild Awards, but, strangely, she was snubbed by the Oscars. She's won other industry peer-group prizes during her career, including the Emmy, but that came late in the run of "Friends." I ask her: how does she cope with the craziness and inconsistencies of awards? "Awards are not my motivation," she repli.
