Betty Boop Movie Being Developed by Simon Cowell
The classic 1930s cartoon character Betty Boop is headed back to the big screen in a feature length film that is being developed by producer Simon Cowell. The movie will be a music-driven hybrid animated comedy.
According to Variety, the project has been in the works for several months with Fleischer Studios, which is the studio that owns the rights to the character. They've partnered with Syco Entertainment and Animal Logic, which is the group that created the animation for The Lego Movie. As of right now there's still no writer and director attached to the project.
Betty Boop made her first appearance in 1930 and made severals appearances in Max Fleischer’s Talkartoons and her own cartoon series as a fun-loving, flirtatious character with the signature line “Boop-oop-a-doop!” She was the first female animated star. Her last movie appearance was a 1988 cameo in Who Framed Roger Rabbit.
