Homefront – review | Mark Kermode
Jason Statham, Winona Ryder and James Franco can't save this backwoods thriller from mediocrity

After the more adventurous experiments of Hummingbird, the Stath goes back to basics with this meat-and-potatoes headbanger about a former DEA agent of no fixed accent attempting to lie low in a picturesque bayou backwater. With a screenplay by Sly Stallone and an A-list supporting cast (James Franco doing crazy, Winona Ryder and Kate Bosworth slumming
it as white trash), Homefront has a pedigree that promises something special, but the results are solidly ordinary. Despite the potential for southern gothic weirdness (the scenery seems to be crying out for a little spice), Gary Fleder plays it safe and predictable, with a few crunchy fight sequences offering the only real tasty meat on the menu.
