Watch: Macklemore & Ryan Lewis Reward College Student Volunteering For Lgbt Cause
Rapper Macklemore and producer Ryan Lewis will appear on an episode of MTV's "Random Acts of mtvU," a new program that "rewards hard-working, civic-minded college students," on May 7. The popular collaborators, responsible for hits like "Thrift Shop," will be surprising a student at St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia.
Julia Collins, who is a huge fan of the artists, has been volunteering at St. Joseph's "Summer Scholars" program, which supports lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (Lgbt) homeless youth. Macklemore and Lewis have both also worked with the organization.
"To me their music really means change and a lot of progress," Collins said in a preview of the episode (see above).
During the segment, the duo surprises the student with two VIP tickets to see them perform at the Hangout Festival in Alabama.
Macklemore and Lewis have been vocal allies of the Lgbt community, perhaps most visibly with their popular track, "Same Love.
