Modern Family Casting Scoop: Look Who's Playing Gloria's Mother!
Modern Family is expanding!
Elizabeth Peña (La Bamba, Rush Hour) has been tapped to play Pilar, mother to Sofia Vergara’s Gloria, TVLine has learned.
Additionally, Stephanie Beatriz has been cast as Sofia, Gloria’s sister.
They will both appear in this season’s 12th episode, “Fulgencio,” which begins shooting on Monday.

The pair are likely around for a visit related to Gloria’s pregnancy — maybe a baby shower? Perhaps the blessed event itself?
In addition to several films, Peña’s TV credits include Off the Map, Boston Public and the ’80s sitcom I Married Dora.
