His family moved to County Cork, Ireland when he was one year old. Jonathan's father John O'Keeffe was a musician. He separated from his wife Mary, leaving her to raise the four boys by herself. His mother, Mary Geraldine Meyers, raised Jonathan and his younger brothers Alan, James, and Paul, by herself. He was raised a Roman Catholic and was the oldest of the four brothers. All his brothers are musicians. Music is in the blood as Jonathan is a self taught guitarist and singer. He spent some time in an orphanage.
