American Idol: Rapper Ali Shields inspired by Ellen DeGeneres - video
American Idol hopeful Ali Shields said that she had been inspired to audition by former show judge Ellen DeGeneres. The 19-year-old from California told viewers on Sunday night that she had previously written a song about how much she wanted to meet DeGeneres, which led to an actual meeting with her on Ellen and the talkshow host offering her the chance to interview celebrities at the American Music Awards 2011. A montage of clips from Ali's time on the red carpet showed her chatting to stars like Lady Antebellum and Usher, even stealing a kiss from the latter.
