Vanity Fair’s annual Oscar party took place Sunday at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills. I have all the details from inside the event, which as usual attracted the most elite of the Hollywood set who poured in after watching Everything Everywhere All at Once score seven Oscar trophies including Best Picture.

We managed to get our hands on the guest list for the event, held in a 3,000-square-foot indoor reception area, with additional courtyards and other outdoor lounge spaces. The main bar, a prime gathering spot, was 40 feet long. The guests danced into the early-morning hours.

Born in London, Minnie Driver, 53, gained an Oscar nomination for Good Will Hunting in 1998. She was Emmy nominated for her performance in the 2007 television series The Riches and has a recurring role in Will & Grace. More recent films include Cinderella, Rosaline and Chevalier. She has a podcast, Minnie Questions With Minnie Driver, and her memoir, Managing Expectations, was published last year. She lives in California with her partner, the film-maker Addison O’Dea, and her son.

When I was starting out, in the early 90s, I had to fake an orgasm in a room full of male ad execs at an audition for a chocolate bar ad. It was grim.

The film will travel the world — from China, the home of the giant panda, to the U.S. and beyond — to answer both the “why” and “how” of the human relationship with the beloved, vegetarian, teddy-bear like animals. Unlikely Heroes will start with the history of the pandas in China, set in their natural habitat in the lush mountains of Sichuan. Eugene Jarecki – two times winner of the Sundance Grand Jury Prize – for “Why We Fight” (2005) and “The House I Live In” (2012) – is preparing an untitled “Tuareg Project,” that he will shoot in Morocco.

The pic will be produced by Addison O’Dea (“Discovery Trvlr”), and line produced by Moroccan producer Zakaria Alaoui, of Zak Productions.

The project marks a return for Jarecki to fiction after focusing in recent years on documentaries, including his recent Elvis Presley-themed musical road trip “The King” (2017), featuring celebrity guests such as Alec Baldwin, Ethan Hawke, Lana del Rey, and Jane Fonda, which premiered at Sundance and made its international debut in Cannes.

Jarecki has written the script with his son, Jonas, based on a bestselling novel.

One of his main concerns is to avoid a post-colonial Western gaze on the subject and considers that his extensive experience in anthropological documentary filmmaking will help him achieve authenticity.
