Emma Evelein (1993, Amsterdam) is a Dutch choreographer and director and independent artist. After her Pres and bachelor's degree at the Amsterdam School of the Arts (2008-2014), Emma has worked with various European and Israeli choreographers and studied the language of Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company (IS) and Batsheva Dance Company (IS).
After her company life, Emma started to fully focus on her dance language in theater and film and quickly grew into an international (film) choreographer and teacher. Her dance language has been described as 'detailed, sincere, raw and accessible'. For works like 'Sisters', 'A flood remains', 'Wolves' and 'Fiftyone-fourtynine' she won 39 awards all over the world, including the Tuschinski Awards Nederlands Film Festival (2019), the Kurt Jooss Preis (2019) , Best choreography Amsterdam (2018), Audience Awards Bucharest International Dance Film Festival (2018) and NDT partner award (2021) in the final of the Rotterdam International Dance Duet Competition.
In 2020, Emma was named one of the five Emerging Choreographers by Springboard Danse Canada and 'Sisters' became the first short dance film ever shown on an airline (KLM). In addition, her film work has been screened at more than 60 festivals around the world, including Short Waves Poland and Cinedans Netherlands. In recent years she has created work in the Netherlands for Sally Maastricht, Mannheim International Theater, various European Film production companies like Newland Sweden and Mamma Team Barcelona. In 2022 she was under the wing of the Nederlands Dans Theater.
In the international commercial film world and music videos, Emma is asked for her artistic unique movement language that adds value to productions. Emma is a permanent teacher at the Henny Jurriens Foundation, European Ballet School, Tanzwerk Zwitserland and various departments of the Amsterdam School of the Arts, Fontys and Codarts Rotterdam. She gave masterclasses in more than 20 countries, judges international competitions and coaches and supports up-and-coming talent, in collaboration with World of Dance (UA) and Atmosphere Dance (UA). Her first next directorial work 'Lucid dreaming' is released in September 2023, in collaboration with the Netherlands Film Fund. Lucid dreaming won the 'Gouden Calf' for best shortfall in the 2023' edition of The Netherlands Film Festival.
