We’ll be seeing more of Dr. Elizabeth Wilder on NBC’s New Amsterdam. Sandra Mae Frank, who joined the series in the current fourth season as a recurring, has been promoted to series regular for the upcoming fifth and final season, Deadline has confirmed.
Frank, who is deaf, portrays deaf surgeon and the newest Chief of Oncology at New Amsterdam Medical Center, Elizabeth Wilder. She was first interviewed by Max (Ryan Eggold) to fill Helen’s (Freema Agyeman) position. Max then offered her his job as the hospital’s medical director, which she turned down, but went on to join the staff as Chief of Oncology. She appeared in 12 episodes this season.

Can you hear the people? Can you hear the people sing? Rejoice? Celebrate?
Blessed be everything and everyone because Veronica Fuentes is finally freaking gone! It only took all season.
One can't think of a better outcome for New Amsterdam Season 4 Episode 20 than Veronica crying her crocodile tears as she walked out of New Amsterdam forever. Good damn riddance!
They threw a few different things at us for this hour, but fortunately, it wasn't as frustratingly jam-packed as New Amsterdam Season 4 Episode 19.
For reasons I didn't quite follow, we opened with the coveted few who got the ax and opted to work at Umi, having new badges flung at them.
After commotion with the urgent care fiasco, Fuentes took in the staff and taunted them with the cold, hard fact that they all had a three-year non-compete, which meant they could practice medicine at New Amsterdam or not at all for at least three years.

Dr. Max Goodwin (Ryan Eggold) remains determined to take down his replacement as medical director, Dr. Veronica Fuentes (Michelle Forbes), but will he succeed in the two New Amsterdam episodes airing on back-to-back nights on Monday, May 9 (at 10/9c), and in its usual time slot on Tuesday, May 10? At the end of the latest episode, Veronica announced to the board her plan to acquire Urgent Medicine Inc. as Max continued to try to oust her. The board didn’t want her to resign after she explained how that would be profitable for them… but what she didn’t know is that was part of Max’s plan and she fell for it. “How do you beat greed personified? You give her something to buy,” Max said to Karen Brantley (Debra Monk) when they met up after. “Veronica just bought herself a Trojan horse. We are in.” Now, in the promo for these upcoming two episodes,...

“This guy needs some good times. He needs some things to go right,” Ryan Eggold (above) says of Dr. Max Goodwin on New Amsterdam. The hospital drama’s intense two-part return (concluding April 26) has a promising start for him: The cancer survivor and widower takes time off from his war against administrator Veronica Fuentes (Michelle Forbes) for the staff’s karaoke night, slaying “Shake Your Groove Thing” with Dr. Wilder. His long-distance love Helen (Freema Agyeman) visits from London, and he plans to propose. But as the first hour unfolds from different characters’ perspectives, the evening takes a dark turn in unforeseen ways — leaving relationships, and even lives, in jeopardy. Zach Dilgard/NBC “There’s a scare that runs through this whole ensemble,” the actor teases. “It sends everyone reeling, trying to figure out what happened and unscramble this mystery that has the potential to be very damaging for some people.

Even if Dr. Max Goodwin (Ryan Eggold) saves New Amsterdam from the medical director who replaced him when he moved to London, Dr. Veronica Fuentes (Michelle Forbes), we won’t be seeing the hospital’s staff for much longer: The NBC medical drama is coming to an end. New Amsterdam is ending with the fifth season, to air in 2022-2023, Deadline reports. Its 13 episodes will mean the series ends with 92, eight short of the milestone 100. “The story of Max Goodwin, and his never-ending commitment to patients at New Amsterdam, has been inspiring,” Lisa Katz, President, Scripted Programming, NBCUniversal Television & Streaming, said in a statement. “We’re so grateful to David Schulner, Peter Horton, and our cast and crew for their incredible dedication, talent and collaboration.” Added Erin Underhill, President, Universal Television, “When I first read the pilot script for New Amsterdam, I knew we had a ...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for New Amsterdam Season 4, Episode 15 “Two Doors.”] Dr. Max Goodwin (Ryan Eggold) is probably (definitely) trying to do too much right now. He’s building a life in London with Dr. Helen Sharpe (Freema Agyeman) and his daughter, and he’s back in New York trying to save New Amsterdam from his replacement as medical director, Dr. Veronica Fuentes (Michelle Forbes). In the latest New Amsterdam episode, which Eggold directed, he takes an important step in accomplishing his goal in the U.S.: starting work at a trauma clinic that will get him a seat on the hospital’s board. He even has some friends — including Dr. Lauren Bloom (Janet Montgomery), whom Veronica had fired — with him. Plus, after poor timing all episode, Max and Helen reconnect for an emotionally charged phone conversation that has her certain they’ll be Ok. Eggold takes us inside the episode, teases what’s ahead, and addresses that “...

New Amsterdam's Tyler Labine Defends Floyd and Veronica's Actions: 'She Wasn't Wrong' to Demote Iggy
Iggy might be giving his colleague Floyd Reynolds a bit of side-eye in the above photo from Tuesday’s New Amsterdam (NBC, 10/9c), but his potrayer Tyler Labine is coming to the surgeon’s defense .
Last viewers saw, Floyd had exposed The Resistance’s off-the-books operations to their adversary, medical director Dr. Veronica Fuentes, costing Lauren her job and Iggy his title as head of Psych. And yet, Labine believes Veronica and Floyd were both in the right to do what they did. “There has to be some accountability. We were doing something illegal, we were doing something highly unethical,...

When we last saw the doctors of New Amsterdam, everyone was in for some bad news: Dr. Veronica Fuentes (Michelle Forbes), Dr. Max Goodwin’s (Ryan Eggold) replacement as medical director, found out about the resistance and made some major power moves. Among the demotions, termination, and warnings: Dr. Iggy Frome (Tyler Labine) is no longer head of the psychiatry department. But maybe Max, sticking around to try to help while Dr. Helen Sharpe (Freema Agyeman) returned to London, can do something about that? How does everyone feel about their former boss being back? Labine teases what’s ahead and Eggold directing him in February 22’s “Two Doors”. Things are messy right now at New Amsterdam. The resistance is over. Veronica’s made all these moves. What’s life like at the hospital when it picks up? Tyler Labine: Things were left off obviously very tense. Lot of ...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for New Amsterdam Season 4 Episode 11 “Talkin’ Bout a Revolution.”] New Amsterdam just isn’t the same without Dr. Max Goodwin (Ryan Eggold) and Dr. Helen Sharpe (Freema Agyeman), but at least we like the latter’s replacement. The new medical director, Dr. Veronica Fuentes (Michelle Forbes), on the other hand, gets right to work implementing new policies now that she’s the sole person in charge. Also in the New Amsterdam winter premiere, Max and Helen adjust to life in London, and that’s not without its challenges. Plus, Dr. Lauren Bloom (Janet Montgomery) tries (and fails) to connect with Dr. Leyla Shinwari (Shiva Kalaiselvan) after she found out about the donation that opened up a fifth residency spot, but at least her personal life is nowhere near as complicated as Dr. Floyd Reynolds’ (Jocko Sims) with Dr. Lyn Malvo (Frances Turner) pregnant. Oh, and Dr. Iggy Frome (Tyler Labine) continues to make bad ...

When New Amsterdam resumes its fourth season on January 4, things have changed at the hospital. With Dr. Max Goodwin (Ryan Eggold) and Dr. Helen Sharpe (Freema Agyeman) moving to London, Dr. Veronica Fuentes (Michelle Forbes) and Dr. Elizabeth Wilder (Sandra Mae Frank) have officially taken over for them, as medical director and chair of oncology. “You’re going to learn more about [Wilder] and learn that she’s not perfect and she has struggles just like the rest of us,” executive producer David Schulner tells TV Insider. “But she is an awesome character and we love her and we love Sandra Mae Frank. We needed someone with Freema’s gravitas to fill that void, and we felt that Sandra May really brings something unique and different, but also can take over the department that Sharpe left behind.” In addition to seeing Wilder interacting with everyone on staff, “we’re going to learn about Dr.

New Amsterdam‘s Max and Helen took a big risk moving their lives to London — but will it pay off for their relationship?
Although Max was seemingly hesitant about leaving New York and the hospital under the charge of Dr. Veronica Fuentes and her profit-fueled agenda, showrunner David Schulner assures us that his girlfriend Helen Sharpe isn’t concerned about his level of commitment to her. Instead, “her worry is that if Max is unhappy in London, it’ll be on her,” Schulner explains. “That’s a heavy toll to have someone and their young child move to a different country for you.

And now we'll be reeling from that fall finale until the series returns!
For a midseason finale, New Amsterdam Season 4 Episode 10 delivered. It was an emotionally-wrought installment that was blessedly Veronica Fuentes free and dangled a couple of cliffhangers. There's still no "joy" to be found, but what else is new?
Max and Helen have left the building, while the rest of our favorite relationships are enduring some complications, to say the least.
We still haven't forgiven New Amsterdam for the mass firing of many of our favorite supporting characters, yet the hour had the audacity to place Walsh in peril, too.
Can we please have a moment of peace?
Max and Helen's impending departure from New Amsterdam has felt as if it's been in the works for a lifetime, so it wasn't surprising when the pair were airport-bound, only to get wrapped up in the hospital's latest crisis.

Veronica is a wily one. We all know this, but for some reason, Max and Karen keep underestimating her.
For the most part, New Amsterdam Season 4 Episode 9 was a wonderful hour. Shanthi Sekaran did a beautiful job with the storytelling as the N.A.H. docs treated a series of undocumented individuals while I.C.E. breathed down their necks.
But then those final moments, like almost every single installment of New Amsterdam Season 4 thus far, left you simmering with rage. We can't continue walking away infuriated like this; it's exhausting.
They said it was a time to heal and a season of joy, but almost every central plot leaves you broken-hearted or angry. Does anyone else feel like a middle-schooler calling their mother crying and wanting to go home?
The Veronica Fuentes ride is not fun. For some, she stopped being a delightful villain ages ago, and for most,...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for New Amsterdam Season 4, Episode 9 “In a Strange Land.”] After Dr. Veronica Fuentes (Michelle Forbes) laid off a large number of the staff — including Casey (Alejandro Hernandez), Gladys (Megan Byrne), and Baptiste (Andre Blake) in Bloom (Janet Montgomery), Iggy (Tyler Labine), and Reynolds’ (Jocko Sims) places after Max (Ryan Eggold) fought for them — she’s once again on the (soon-to-be former) medical director’s bad side in the latest New Amsterdam episode. Can Veronica Fuentes please slither back to the fiery pits of hell and reclaim her spot at Satan's side where she belongs?
Hopefully, this woman gets everything that she deserves and more. Her ongoing role as the harbinger of chaos, discord, and disruption continued on New Amsterdam Season 4 Episode 8, and now we've lost some of the most revered supporting characters of the series.
Again, inquiring minds want to know how New Amsterdam defines "joy." It hasn't delivered on this widely teased theme much. So far, heartbreak, stress, and a host of other emotions take precedent.
If you happen to be a fan of other medical or first responder dramas, then the ransomware plot is all too familiar. Believe it or not, hospital cyber attacks have become such a massive problem that it's no wonder so many series have jumped on board this type of storyline over the past couple of years.

Veronica Fuentes has to go.
Have we ever had a villain on this series quite like her? She's reminiscent of a Disney villain with some of her maneuvers. She wages mental warfare on everyone around, exploits things, and seems intent on burning the hospital to a crisp around her to get a rise out of Max.
By the end of New Amsterdam Season 4 Episode 7, it felt as if Fuentes, channeling Eris the Goddess of Strife and Chaos, is intentionally doing things to force Max to stay. It has to be the only explanation!
The installment had it all, and they're doing a tremendous job of juggling so many different topics, and storylines that all have unique feels to them.
But let's get the thorn in the side storyline out of the way first.
To say that this situation with Floyd, Lyn, and Claude is on life support would imply that...

At this point, we all know that there is no way in hell Max and Helen will be leaving in a month for London.
Nevertheless, they've deluded themselves into thinking that's going to happen. But fortunately, by the end of New Amsterdam Season 4 Episode 4, they both agreed to raise some hell and get into that good trouble before their departure.
Veronica Fuentes better watch her back!
Finally, it felt like New Amsterdam again, with the series touching on several topical issues in organic ways, character interactions of all sorts, development of plots and our faves, and all-around good times.
The blend of personal and professional case plots made for a great hour, and it was the first time since the show's return that all of the characters felt deeply themselves at the same time.
Lauren is a woman who is deeply in love with Leyla, and it's reaching levels of concern.

As the saying goes, "all you need is love."
One thing New Amsterdam manages to do is cling to the bits of hope and finds light in the darkness. It's what often separates it from its medical drama counterparts.
And New Amsterdam Season 3 finished on an upswing with Max racing to Helen's apartment like something out of a romantic comedy and kissing her senseless before closing the door.
It was a scene that rocked the fandom, especially Sharpwin 'shippers, who waited three seasons for the chemistry between the pair to boil over into sexy, romantic goodness.
And that's what we can look forward to in New Amsterdam's fourth season.
Now, we get to see Max and Helen navigate this new phase in their relationship, and it can't come at a better time.

Well, this certainly bodes well for “Sharpwin” fans. When New Amsterdam returns for Season 4, the NBC drama’s theme will be: “Love heals,” states TVLine’s exclusive key art for the upcoming run.
Considering those words are plastered over Max’s face, we have to believe the widower’s heart is on the mend and that he’s moving on after recently taking a big romantic leap. We doubt we have to remind you that the doc finally removed his wedding ring and then kissed Helen in the Season 3 finale, acting on long-simmering feelings for his friend/colleague.
