The Drake-Kendrick Lamar showdown will continue — at the 2024 BET Awards.
The rappers will compete in two categories at the June 30 show: best male hip-hop artist and best collaboration. In the latter category, Drake is nominated for “Rich Baby Daddy” with Sza and Sexyy Red, while Lamar is nominated for his guest verse on the remix of Beyoncé’s “America Has a Problem.”
Drake is the show’s top contender with seven nominations, thanks to his album For All the Dogs (Scary Hours Edition). Lamar didn’t release an album that was eligible this year. The Canadian rapper’s other nominations include album of the year, best male R&b/pop artist and viewer’s choice for “Rich Baby Daddy.” He’s nominated twice in the video of the year category: “Rich Baby Daddy” and his guest verse on J. Cole’s “First Person Shooter,” the late 2023 track that reignited his feud with Lamar.

Eminem paces through a dilapidated office, dressed in all black other than a yellow tie and some yellow accents on his sneakers, in the video for Lyrical Lemonade’s “Doomsday 2.” On the track, Eminem raps about how much “shit with a purpose that matters” but also dissing his longtime foe, Benzino. “Now I got a riddle … What is the opposite of Benzino?” he raps. “A giraffe. ‘Go at his neck,’ How the fuck is that?/How can I go at somethin’ he doesn’t have?” And he keeps going and going.

The closing night of the Jonas Brothers’ ‘Five Albums. One Night.’ tour turned out to be unforgettable in more ways than one. During the intermission at Saturday night’s show at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, Jack Black suddenly appeared onstage for a surprise performance of The Super Mario Bros. Movie hit ballad “Peaches.”
Black arrived, seemingly out of nowhere, dressed as his character Bowser and sang the ode to Princess Peach. After leading the crowd into his sing-along, Black had but one question for the crowd: “Are you not entertained?...

In the creative industries, there are few truly original ideas. Instead, it’s about how you use pre-existing techniques in order to create something truly engaging. As Pablo Picasso famously once said, “Good artists copy, great artists steal.” While working as a creative director, Jacobi Mehringer was told that it’s best to hold onto his references as they can often be the competitive edge. But he decided to go against the grain when setting up Eyecandy, a visual reference library featuring a bounty of amazing techniques perfect for inspiring your next film, music video or advertisement campaign. With crash zooms, Dutch angles, Pov, drone shots, split diopters and tons of other incredible techniques, I quickly got lost in and amazed by the sheer creativity on display. I was happy to spend some time with Mehringer as part of Dn’s Film Industry Insights series to learn all about why it was important to share,...

Jack Black brought his piano ballad “Peaches” from The Super Mario Bros. Movie to the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on Sunday. During the surprise performance at The Game Awards 10–Year Concert, one-half of Tenacious D was accompanied by the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, conducted by Lorne Balfe. Watch it below.
After entering from stage right, Black — whose character Bowser dedicates the song to Princess Peach (voiced by Anya Taylor-Joy) in the record-breaking movie — let loose an especially schmaltzy, over-the-top rendition of his first solo hit while rocking the same green suit and red hairpiece from the music video. Meanwhile, footage of Peach from the film played on the giant screen hanging over the stage.
Following its release in April, “Peaches” peaked at No. 56 on the Billboard Hot 100 and spent a total of five weeks on the chart. Its music video, directed by Lyrical Lemonade’s Cole Bennett, has racked up 45 million YouTube views to date.

Juice Wrld stashed away thousands of songs prior to his tragic passing in 2019, and now, a collaboration with Cordae called “Doomsday” has been unearthed. Built around a sample of the Dr. Dre-produced Eminem track “Role Model” from 1999’s The Slim Shady LP, it’s the first taste of an album from Cole Bennett’s Lyrical Lemonade.
As behind-the-scenes footage in the music video shows, “Doomsday” isn’t a song that was posthumously stitched together — the young rappers and friends actually traded bars in the recording studio, with Juice Wrld even laying out his vision for the visual treatment. Though Bennett ended up going in a different direction, he includes a preview of what Juice’s concept looked like.
Lyrically, Juice Wrld and Cordae channel Eminem — whom they’ve both called a major influence — over Dre’s vintage beat. “This industry has nothing to offer beyond fame,” Cordae raps. “Time...

Jack Black has brought his comedic energy and timing to the starring role of a music video set to Bowser’s song “Peaches” from the hit “Super Mario Bros.” film.
The “Peaches” music video directed by Cole Bennett, watches Black climb through a hole in what looks like a mushroom or a turtle shell to tickle the ivories on a pink piano and belt out the ballad. Music managers don’t exactly have a sterling reputation in the broad pop-culture consciousness. Casual fans usually only hear about them when there’s serious drama (either personal or financial), and they’re frequently seen as trying to cynically swoop in on the New Hot Thing with only a cursory interest in the art they’re making. But nowadays, with artists being visible 24/7 and the industry undergoing tectonic shifts seemingly every few years, the role of a manager has changed, and so have the people doing it.

Cole Bennett spent the first half of this year living out some of his biggest dreams: meeting and hanging out with one of his heroes, Love f.k.a. Diddy, shooting a new video with Kid Cudi, Denzel Curry, and Jid, and drawing more than 90,000 people to Chicago’s West Side for the 2022 Lyrical Lemonade Summer Smash, a festival he co-founded. Now, on the heels of the Illumination film Minions: The Rise of Gru, the 26-year-old can add another accomplishment to his list: helping to create a viral hit.

Justin Bieber promised “Honest,” and he delivered his new track featuring Don Toliver on Thursday. The song arrives with accompanying video directed by Cole Bennett.
The pair sing about the virtues of being true to loved ones while enjoying time snowmobiling, hanging in a ski lodge and lounging fireside with the people who keep them “honest” — although villains show up to try and ruin their good time.
“You kept it real with me from jump,” Bieber sings on the chorus. Toliver raps: “Gotta pick a side before you jump and leap.

Juice Wrld’s untimely death two years ago did little to snuff out his burgeoning stardom — quite the opposite, in fact. As evidenced by the very existence of Tommy Oliver’s documentary “Juice Wrld: Into the Abyss,” the rapper’s impact on those around him — to say nothing of his legions of fans — continues to be felt today. The film’s vérité, behind-the-scenes look at his trials and tribulations may feel surface-level to those unfamiliar with Juice, but his many admirers will likely consider it essential viewing.
One of the first things we hear Juice say in the film is “I pop Percs to numb all the pain ’cause it hurts to live,” a line delivered with characteristic effortlessness in one of the many freestyle raps he performs. Like just about everything else he ever wrote and recorded, this one is “from the dome” — off the top of his head and not written in advance.

If you were to say Machine Gun Kelly needs to get his hair under control, that would be a bald-faced lie. The 31-year-old rapper posted a photo to social media on Tuesday, Aug. 10 revealing he had recently shaved off all his signature blonde locks. This is quite the identity shift, given that his Instagram bio simply reads, "the Blonde Don." This pic showed off a prominent tattoo on the top of his head, which can be seen in the screenshot below. His social media post was part of an effort to promote his music video for the first single from his upcoming album, Born With Horns.
