Mike Tabone
- Writer
Mike believes the strength of great dialogue can supersede the grandeur of any heart-stopping action sequence, the power of special effects, and the shifting trends of modern culture.
In constructing narrative, Mike places equal focus on non-verbal communication to that placed on the spoken word, likening lapses between character lines in a script to pauses between notes in a musical piece or manoeuvres between strikes in a fight sequence. Moments which, when used well, can prime or load the next interaction just as well as the most finely crafted retort.
Mike wrote and produced several productions in minor theatre in his teens, including a self-adapted version of the classic "A Christmas Carol" in 2004 and Trevor Zahra's "Holm tal-Milied" (Dreams of Christmas) in 2006. Mike has written works in English, Italian, and Maltese.
He has written and produced screenplays since 2012 including the award-winning shorts "Eve" and "Color," commercials for the private sector, and international adverts for the Malta Tourism Authority. He has adapted multiple works by Maltese authors for the screen, including other works by Trevor Zahra and the sociopolitical play "Menz" by the late Francis Ebejer. In 2018 he scripted a series of scenes performed live for a nationwide historical re-enactment commemorating the 220th anniversary of the French Occupation of Malta.
