The roller coaster of ESPN staffing news continued today, as NFL analyst Mina Kimes is set for what’s reported to be a massive new deal. The agreement is worth more than $1.7 million, according to the New York Post’s Andrew Marchand, and puts Kimes over seven figures for the first time.
“Kimes’ role with ESPN will basically stay the same,” reported Marchand. She will be featured on NFL Live and make other appearances on the network’s shows.
Additionally, Dan Le Batard announced this morning that Kimes had signed a new deal with former ESPN boss John Skipper’s Meadowlark Media. She will continue to appear on “The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz.”

Linda Yaccarino, CEO of X, the digital platform formerly known as Twitter, told employees they are “writing history” with the stunning overhaul of the well-established brand.
In an email to employees obtained by Deadline (subject line: “X: Our Next Big Impression”), Yaccarino said Twitter “made a lasting imprint on the world” during its 17-year run. In rebranding it as X and ditching the blue bird logo, part of a move to explore new business areas like banking, payments and video, the company will “go even further to transform the global town square — and impress the world all over again,” the former NBCUniversal exec said. She went on to urge them, “Please don’t take this moment for granted. You’re writing history, and there’s no limit to our transformation.”

ESPN today announced Tim Tebow as one of the initial debate partners on Stephen A. Smith’s First Take.
Tebow, who was cut from the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars in his latest pro sports comeback attempt, will appear with Smith on Fridays. The show has also slotted ex-Dallas receiver and Pro Football Hall of Famer Michael Irvin on Mondays.
The other days will feature a rotating cast of ESPN personalities, including Mina Kimes and Kendrick Perkins. Molly Qerim Rose will remain on the show as a moderator. The multiple hosts replace Max Kellerman, who will be moving to his own afternoon show and morning radio stint for ESPN.
Tebow likely will have his hands full taking on the bombastic Smith. The highly religious 2007 Heisman Trophy winner isn’t known for a mean streak and outrageous comments, something Smith has in abundance.
Kellerman made his final appearance on the show Wednesday.

ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith apologized on air Tuesday morning for comments he made about Los Angeles Angels star Shohei Ohtani, acknowledging the hot talk he typically offers on his program had elevated to boiling after he suggested the Japanese baseball star’s use of an interpreter diminished his appeal, as as well as that of the sport.
Smith used the opening minutes of his popular ESPN program, “First Take,” to apologize to the “Asian community, the Asian American community, to Walt Disney and ESPN” for his comments. “I also want to extend a personal apology to Ohtani himself,” Smith said.
Smith has been on a mission of atonement since yesterday’s conversation, during which he said Ohtani needed to speak English during public appearances. “I understand that baseball is an international sport itself in terms of participation, but when you talk about an audience gravitating to the tube or to the ballpark,...

Exclusive: CAA sports media agent Michael Klein is leaving the agency to form a management company with a specialty in audio and betting.
His client roster, includes ESPN’s Mina Kimes and Bomani Jones as well as Pft Commenter, the alter ego of Barstool Sports NFL writer Eric Sollenberger, will continue to be co-repped with CAA.
The new firm, Silver Tribe Media, will be based in LA.
Sports wagering has been dramatically expanding since the Supreme Court made a landmark ruling in 2018 legalizing it in New Jersey. A number of other states have followed in legalizing betting, and businesses like DraftKings and FanDuel have grown along with the opportunity. Media companies have also jumped aboard the betting trend. With increasing numbers of athletes looking to establish a media presence, Klein sees Silver Tribe as a home for those looking to take that step.

Skipper, who resigned from ESPN in 2017, would remain in his current position as executive chair of Dazn Group but shift focus to daily oversight of the new company, according to the Miami Herald, which suggested that Kevin Mayer, a former high-ranking Disney exec who now is an adviser to Dazn parent company Access Industries, might take over his responsibilities at Dazn.

This year in sports can’t be summed up with Top 10 lists and reels of game clips. So ESPN is going to try some different tactics.
ESPN plans a three-hour primetime event to bid farewell to year in sports that often involved events that took place well off the field. The show, “SportsCenter Presents: 2020 – Heroes, History and Hope,”will air as three one-hour programs and will kick off on Thursday, December 24 at 8 p.m. Jeremy Schaap and Lisa Salters. It will also be available on the ESPN mobile app
“We’ve done all different kinds of year-end specials. Some of them have been anthologies of our best stories commentary. Five or six different panel shows do ten best things, then worst things,” says Schaap, in an interview. “For obvious reasons, that wouldn’t have seemed an appropriate way to look back at a year with so much devastation and heartache...

Mina Kimes is preparing to take ESPN into a new frontier.
The sports-media giant has launched a “SportsCenter” for Snapchat and tested baseball telecasts for kids. Now it’s hoping to set up shop in another media venue. Starting tomorrow, the Disney-backed company launches “ESPN Daily,” a weekday morning podcast that aims to tap its vast array of reporters and analysts. Kimes, who will host the program, has already been working on stories.
“We will certainly be engaging with the news and the sports calendar, but we also want to find stories that aren’t the obvious ones, the ones people wouldn’t hear about otherwise,” Kimes says in an interview. The show will last about 20 minutes and tackle everything from stories about the biggest names in sports to narrative investigations and some quirkier stuff.

ESPN’s award-winning series “E:60” headed to Paradise, California for a special episode airing Tuesday night.

“E:60” follows the impact of the Camp Fire on the Paradise High School football team, where only three players and two coaches escaped without losing their homes — but their spirit and drive to win survived.

The 2019 NFL Draft smashed records in both attendance and ratings last week, as a total 600,000 people attended the three-day event in Nashville, Tennessee, and an average 6.1 million viewers watched across linear television and digital platforms, according to Nielsen.
Meanwhile, ABC scored a primetime touchdown with its coverage of Day 1 of the 2019 NFL Draft on Thursday night, rising 26% in total viewers compared to the first night of last year’s broadcast on Fox.
For those who had doubted that the Music City could pull off football’s second-biggest event after the Super Bowl with such huge success, don’t feel bad — you weren’t alone.

Three-time Super Bowl champion Rob Gronkowski has a head injury — but don’t panic, this one is from a beer can thrown at the New England Patriots victory parade, not a hit by the Los Angeles Rams defense.
The tight end, whose 29-yard catch from Tom Brady in Super Bowl Liii was the only one in the red zone for either team, visited the “Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on Wednesday night to show off his wounds.
“The parade, millions of fans showed up to watch you and celebrate you, and you had to go ‘full Gronk’ for them,” Fallon marveled.

Super Bowl Liii Mvp Julian Edelman admitted that he’s hasn’t slept since his team won the Super Bowl on Sunday, but that didn’t stop him from hamming it up for the media just hours after the New England Patriots’ victory party shutdown.
“It’s a huge honor to get this award, but honestly, I am just so proud of all these guys that we have this year. The ups and downs that we all had, the ebbs and flows of the season. You play all year to see how the team shapes up, to see how this team grinded and worked this week,” the wide receiver told reporters in a morning press conference on Monday. “When things weren’t at their best, to constantly go out and improve shows that the 2018 New England Patriots are a resilient group and it was unbelievable.”

It’s interesting now and again to see where people are trending from and how their names begin to gain traction among the public. For those that work behind the scenes and aren’t quite as prevalent when it comes to dealing with the public or showing their face it’s kind of hard to see how they gain enough attention for such articles, but their contributions still deserve a great deal of recognition at times. After all, without the people behind the scenes those that manage to gain all the glory and deal with the public on a regular basis might have

Disappointed Cleveland Cavaliers fans are consoling themselves Thursday night with a hilarious series of memes mocking the infuriating moment Cleveland’s hopes of winning were dashed, and LeBron James realized it.
The first game of the 2018 NBA finals was tight, with the Cavs and the Golden State Warriors battling right up to the end of regulation. That was until Cavs shooting guard J.R. Smith made a gaffe that will live on in Finals folklore.
With the score tied following a missed George Hill free throw with five seconds left in the game, Smith rebounded the missed free throw and apparently forgot that the game was tied. Instead of attempting to shoot, or call a timeout, Smith held the ball in what appeared to be an attempt to run out the clock. This put the game into overtime, during which Golden State romped to a 10-point victory. You can watch the debacle in the tweet below.

Tom Brady arrived in a stylish grey trench coat ahead of his Super Bowl Lii performance, and it lit Twitter aflame with theories of his potential double life as a spy.
Brady, 40, might be a well-established quarterback for the New England Patriots, but his trench coat, along with dark sunglasses and earbuds as he was escorted by security through the U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis on Sunday, had many wondering about a possible shadow career.
