There are many examples of sequels that proceed without the original film’s star. Gladiator II will obviously not be able to feature Maximus Decimus Meridius after his arc ended in the first film. However, that will not stop attention being paid to Russell Crowe for the upcoming sequel despite the fact that he has no involvement. Last year, Crowe joked that he should be reimbursed for all the Gladiator II questions he’s fielded, “They should be f*cking paying me for the amount of questions I get asked about the f*cking film that I am not even in,” adding, “in that world, I’m dead, six feet under. And that’s that.” However, he also thinks the movie is bound to be extraordinary. “If Ridley has decided to do a second part … he will have really strong reasons…I couldn’t think of that movie being less than absolutely spectacular.

Russell Crowe has admitted that he’s “slightly uncomfortable” with the fact that Ridley Scott is making a sequel to “Gladiator.”
Crowe played the lead character, Maximus Decimus Meridius, in Scott’s 2000 epic, which won him an Oscar for best actor and launched him to worldwide fame. Now, “Normal People” breakout Paul Mescal is starring in “Gladiator II” as Lucius Verus, the grandson of former Emperor Marcus Aurelius (Richard Harris). As you may recall, Marcus was brutally killed by his power-hungry son Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix) after he appointed Maximus as his successor. The first film ends with Crowe’s character memorably dying in a duel against Commodus.
In a new interview on “Kyle Meredith With…,” Crowe said: “I’m slightly uncomfortable, the fact that they’re making another one, you know? Because of course, I’m dead, and I have no say in what gets done. A couple of things that I’ve heard,...

Russell Crowe is sharing his thoughts on Ridley Scott‘s Gladiator sequel, admitting that he’s “slightly uncomfortable” that it’s being made.
During a recent interview with Kyle Meredith, the Oscar-winning actor said, “I’m slightly uncomfortable with the fact they’re making another one — because, of course, I’m dead and I have no say in what gets done. But a couple of the things I’ve heard I’m like, ‘No, no, no, that’s not in the moral journey of that particular character’. But I can’t say anything, it’s not my place, I’m six foot under. So we’ll see what that is like.”
Crowe played Roman general Maximus in 2000’s Gladiator. The film, also directed by Scott, follows his character as he sets out to exact vengeance against the corrupt emperor who murdered his family and sent him into slavery.

Ridley Scott’s sword-and-sandal sequel Gladiator 2 is out in November, but is now undergoing reshoots in Sussex. Paul Mescal’s been photographed in his Roman garb.
Filming on Ridley Scott’s belated sword-and-sandal sequel Gladiator 2 wrapped in January this year, and the reports from test screenings was highly positive. More recently, however, came news that the production would be gearing back up again for a round of reshoots – and judging by some recent photographs, they’re fairly extensive.
Star Paul Mescal has been captured in his full Roman warrior costume, while other candid photos from the set show a huge army of extras and horses in formation – it looks as though what’s being filmed in a field somewhere in Sussex is some sort of battle sequence.
The images from the reshoots were spotted by World of Reel, and originally published in a British newspaper whose name rhymes with Hazy Jail.

If we wanted to be frank, Gladiator II, when originally confirmed, was among the more unexpected sequels we got. It’s not that we did not want it… but there was a feeling that we did not want it 20+ years later and in a phase when Hollywood was scraping off the success of previous movies and franchises. Sure, the history of Roman gladiators is a rich one, but when Scott’s original film first aired, especially with what happened to the main character, no one really wanted a sequel more than two decades later. But, here we are… we’re back in Ancient Rome, and the movie is, if everything goes according to plan, going to come out on November 22, 2024, and will star Oscar-nominee Paul Mescal as Lucius Verus, a character from the first movie.

There’s maybe no major auteur in cinema as unassuming as Richard Linklater. A Houston, Texas born film nerd who got his start making DIY, low-budget films around Austin, Linklater has maintained the scrappy, laidback vibe of his first feature even as his prestige has risen and his budgets have grown. The average Linklater film unfolds with a careful sense of effortlessness, loosely moving through vignettes with a keen naturalistic flow.
That’s not to say Linklater is an unambitious filmmaker; far from it. This is a man who took a seemingly small one day romance film in “Before Sunrise” and created an ambitious 20-year trilogy out of it, using the love story of Jesse and Céline as a canvas upon which to explore ideas of aging, growth, and the cruel passage of time. With “Boyhood,” he took a completely new approach to the classic coming-of-age narrative by shooting on...

When the original Knives Out movie was released by Lionsgate in 2019, the whodunnit starring Daniel Craig as the southern P.E. Benoit Blanc, was either doomed to fail or become a smashing success. The latter happened, as the ensemble cast full of big names made Knives Out one of the best films of the year, ending up with numerous accolades and nominations, with many going so far as to claim that it had revived the whodunnit genre. The sequel, Glass Onion, was also well-received, but more because of its political and social messages than for the plot, which was more or less feeble and unworthy of the original. But, what is important is that Glass Onion also featured an ensemble cast, and it seems that the upcoming third movie, Wake Up Dead Man, will also follow in these footsteps.

What’s Sam Mendes have in store next for audiences after 2022’s “Empire Of Light“? Well, World Of Reel reports (via The InSneider) that it may be not one movie, but four: biopics on each member of arguably the greatest pop-rock group ever, The Beatles. Yup, that’s a movie each for John, Paul, George, and Ringo. In other words, eat your heart of Peter Jackson: “The Beatles: Get Back” may no longer be the apex of Beatles visual projects any longer.

Sam Mendes is undoubtedly one of the best filmmakers of our times. Among his many hit films are American Beauty (1999), which earned him the Academy Award and Golden Globe Award for Best Director, then Road to Perdition (2002), Jarhead (2005), Revolutionary Road (2008), the James Bond films Skyfall (2012) and Spectre (2015), and the critically acclaimed war film 1917 (2019). He also made Empire of Light in 2022 but has not been active since. Yet, earlier this year, it was reported that Mendes was working on an ambitious four-film project related to arguably the best band ever – The Beatles!

Despite the Fab Four’s massive popularity, Beatlemania wasn’t of much interest for filmmakers for a long time. As for large movie projects about this group, fans have only seen Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Nowhere Boy (2009) about John Lennon’s teenage years.

More than that, it has been recently reported that the director has already cast the Fab Four actors, and at first glance it seems to be a fan cast.

Das Original: Ringo Starr, Paul McCartney, John Lennon, und George Harrison in „The Beatles: Get Back“ (Credit: Apple Corps Ltd.)

We’ve known for a couple of months that Sam Mendes is set to produce four interconnected films based on The Beatles, perhaps the world’s most famous band in history.
All four films are to be released in the space of a year, with 2027 being the target. In a rather interesting approach, each film will be situated from a different band member’s point of view, meaning we’re getting Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Ringo Starr and George Harrison’s stories. McCartney and Starr have agreed full life story and music rights, and the families of Lennon and Harrison have done the same.
Considering that Mendes has got four films to get working on, we’d imagine he’s keen to get going. As such,...

It was announced earlier this year that Sam Mendes was undertaking an ambitious project involving one of the biggest bands in history: The Beatles. Instead of just one movie, Mendes is set to direct four movies, each telling the story from the point of view of a different member of the Beatles. Jeff Sneider has the scoop on who could play the Fab Four.
According to Sneider, the potential cast for Sam Mendes’ Beatles movies includes Harris Dickinson (The Iron Claw) as John Lennon, Paul Mescal (Gladiator II) as Paul McCartney, Barry Keoghan (Saltburn) as Ringo Starr, and Charlie Rowe (Rocketman) as George Harrison. As Sneider himself states, there has been no confirmation that these actors will take on the roles at the end of the day; They’re just who Mendes is considering at the moment.

Taking its name from the 1934 ballad written by Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart, the film follows Hart as he attempts to save face while celebrating his former partner Rodgers’ great success on the night of his musical Oklahoma!‘s Broadway opening. While it’s believed that this will end up being Linklater’s next film, that’s not entirely clear at present.
We’re told that Robert Kaplow — co-writer of Linklater’s 2008 film Me and Orson Welles — penned the script for Blue Moon and that Linklater will produce the project alongside his manager John Sloss.

While there are many shows that have been on the air a little too long and have definitely outstayed their welcome, there is another side to the same coin. The shows that only get one season, but become so beloved by so many viewers that they need several more.
Many of those who remember the origins of Paul Mescal and Daisy Edgar-Jones will tell you that BBC Three and Hulu's TV series Normal People fits perfectly into the latter category. Based on the 2018 novel by Sally Rooney, the show was sweet and relatable to many young adult viewers who faced the same issues as the main characters.
It was a vague and ambiguous open ending that left fans of the show wanting more for the past four years.

Could another season of Normal People be on the horizon? It was one theory sparked by the social media post shared by the show’s stars Paul Mescal and Daisy Edgar-Jones, but one that has since been debunked. My guest this week is Andrew Scott.
In this episode we dig into Scott’s early start in a cereal commercial and his job in a bizarre supermarket, along with the “empathy game” that is acting, and how it cured him of a childhood speech impediment.
Scott also reveals his profound grief at the recent passing of his beloved mother, the legacy of kindness she left him with and why she was “a total hero”.
In Netflix’s limited series Ripley, Scott plays the titular role of Tom Ripley, a scheming grifter set on inserting himself into the life of rich playboy Dickie Greenleaf (Johnny Flynn). Based on the novels by Patricia Highsmith, Anthony Minghella’s 1999 film version, The Talented Mr. Ripley, starred Matt Damon and Jude Law. To be honest, Gladiator II is one of the more unexpected sequels we got, but… we managed to get it nevertheless. Sure, the history of Roman gladiators is a rich one, but then Scott’s original film first aired, especially with what happened to the main character, no one really thought that the story would be exploited further. More gladiator films? Sure, but not a sequel to the original movie. But, we’re back, and the movie is, if everything goes according to plan, going to come out on November 22, 2024, and will star Oscar-nominee Paul Mescal as Lucius Verus, a character from the first movie.
But, while this is more or less settled, we have to state that another Oscar nominee was initially attached to the project, but has left it in the meantime due to supposed scheduling conflicts. The actor in question is Barry Keoghan and in this report,...

It’s been a minute since we heard from director Sam Mendes and his uber-ambitious “Beatles” film plans. Richard Linklater sits in awe of Paul Mescal during production on “Merrily We Roll Along.”
Linklater is adapting the Stephen Sondheim musical across two decades, with Mescal playing the composer character Franklin Shepard. Ben Platt and Beanie Feldstein are also in the cast.
Linklater told The Times UK that Mescal is “transcendent” in the role, which he took on still as a rising star — in other words, before his Oscar nomination for “Aftersun.”

Mescal previously showed off his singing range in the musical “Carmen.” He also presented his stage acting skills during a West End revival of “A Streetcar Named Desire.”
“I just love it,” Mescal told British Vogue of acting on stage. “It’s so gratifying – it’s a very difficult thing...

It’s one of those odd April days in Los Angeles, the type that locals know well: Hours after noon, the sun still seems ambivalent about whether it wants to make itself known. An outsider wouldn’t think it possible for the gleaming capital of show business to feel so grayed out. But if you grew up on an island where colorless skies are the norm, it might feel familiar.
“It’s like, Will I? Won’t I?” the Irish actor Andrew Scott quips as he settles into his chair on the rooftop of the Edition Hotel in West Hollywood. He’s been in town promoting his Netflix series “Ripley,” which launched a few weeks ago, and the foreboding weather seems apt. On that limited series, the Italian vistas seem as unsettled as its antihero’s soul. The show’s vibe is “almost like L.A., what we’re looking at here now,...
