In recent years, we've seen more and more news of book-to-film adaptations getting TV remakes. Examples include His Dark Materials, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Interview with the Vampire, Reacher, as well as upcoming high-octane adaptations like Twilight and, of course, Harry Potter.
Some of us see this pop culture phenomenon as a miserable exploitation of once-popular franchises, while others are thrilled by the success of the aforementioned reboots. But what few can argue with is the fact that in 2024, technological capabilities have improved and the series can accommodate much more detail than the movie.
That's why the upcoming Harry Potter show could be a great opportunity for a long-awaited depiction of one of the best moments in the book that was barely touched on in the movie.
New Harry Potter Show Already in the Works
In April 2023, Warner Bros. officially announced that J.K. Rowling's fantasy novels would officially get a new live-action adaptation.

Harry Melling has achieved something quite rare. At 10 years old, he stomped and screamed his way into what would become one of the biggest film franchises of all time, as the present-counting, cake-inhaling Muggle cousin of Daniel Radcliffe’s young wizard in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. But the actor has managed to wriggle free of that association, for the most part, and has whittled out a career playing some of the most fascinating, peculiar characters on screen. There was his haunting performance as a limbless artist in the Coen brothers’ anthology film The Ballad of Buster Scruggs. Then his role as a preacher who pours venomous spiders over his head in horror noir The Devil All the Time. Now, he’s playing the skittish, misunderstood young Edgar Allan Poe in gothic detective mystery The Pale Blue Eye.

The third “Fantastic Beasts” film, “The Secrets of Dumbledore” has started casting its spell.
From the first film filling us in on magizoologist Newt Scamander’s (Eddie Redmayne) background to the second film showing us everything we need to know about evil wizard Gellert Grindelwald (at the time played by Johnny Depp), this third film serves as the strongest prequel yet. In muggle history, World War II is approaching, but Gellert Grindelwald (now played by Mads Mikkelsen) has a different focus, becoming President of the Confederation of Magic so that he can see his magical form of fascism through.
At the beginning of the film, Dumbledore (Jude Law) asks Newt to assemble a motley crew who will are given the intimidating task of confusing Grindelwald, who now has access to visions of the future thanks to his brutal slaying of a qilin, an adorable Bambi-like deer creatures which are some...

While the domestic box office is showing signs of life after an age of Covid lockdowns, it seems that not every film franchise is being buoyed by a return of theatergoers.”Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore,” Warner Bros.’ latest entry in its prequel series to the “Harry Potter” franchise, is off to a somewhat rocky start, projected to land a record low debut for a Wizarding World film.
The third “Fantastic Beasts” earned 20.1 million on Friday and Thursday night previews from 4,753 North American locations, which marks the lowest opening day figure for a “Potter”-adjacent film. Industry analysts project a three-day opening in the neighborhood of 40 million, with some opportunity for upside.
That’s not exactly the most disastrous result for a theatrical release in 2022, but it’s a disappointing opening for a film franchise that’s supposed to behave like a box office juggernaut. “Secrets of Dumbledore” carries a hefty 200 million production budget,...

The Harry Potter prequel fantasy series continues in Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets Of Dumbledore, with shy, magical-creatures zoologist Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) and the younger Professor Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) in a political thriller plot as they try to prevent villainous wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Mads Mikkelson) from winning an election to lead the wizarding world, and start a war on Muggles, the non-magical humans.
This is the third movie in J.K. Rowlings’ Harry Potter prequel series, which started in the 1920s and is planned to continue into the 1940s. It is directed by David Yates from a script by J.K. Rowlings and Steve Kloves.

[Inhales] Ok, right, so when last we left Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne), the socially awkward magical zoologist renowned as a scholar of fantastic beasts (and not coincidentally, where to find them!), he was preparing — along with Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law), hot-for-teacher Hogwarts’ hunk and future Harry Potter mentor — to take on the evil wizard/ex-Dumbledore lover Gellert Grindelwald (Mads Mikkelsen), as well as Grindelwald’s partners in crime Credence Barebone (Ezra Miller) and Queenie Goldstein (Alison Sudol), a New Yawk-accented witch who you might remember converted to the dark side in order to save her soulmate,...

Following the Wizarding World Universe canon seems to be a complicated thing, especially when the author of said universe is constantly changing it. The last film Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald seemed to throw out everything audiences knew about the history of the Harry Potter universe and created a mess as a result. Though there are still a lot of canonical problems, The Secrets of Dumbledore does try to right some wrongs by finally answering questions lingering for fans—including about Credence’s (Eza Miller) family history, Queenie’s (Alison Sudol) sudden heel turn, and who is Jessica Williams’ character we randomly saw instructing the immortal wizard Nicolas Flamel in the last movie?
Set prior to the events of World War II, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore finds Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) and Grindelwald (now Mads Mikkelsen) attempting to mediate Grindelwald’s plans to overthrow the Muggle world.

Remember way back in the year 2000, before even the first Harry Potter movie had been released? Big as a cinderblock and nearly as heavy, the fourth novel in J.K. Rowling’s bestselling YA series inspired fans to line up at bookstores around the country days in advance. At 734 pages, “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire” was a monster — the biggest book many young fans had ever contemplated reading. Getting through it took effort, albeit the kind that brought deep and immediate rewards to those bewitched by the parallel reality Rowling had invented, one where wizards existed alongside the rest of us unfortunate, non-magic folk.
Well, here we are, three movies into Rowling’s convoluted big-screen prequel saga, and the series once again feels like work, only this time, the resulting pleasures will strike audiences quite differently, depending on your level of dedication to the franchise. “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore...

"The world as we know it is coming undone..." "Things are not quite what they appear." WB has debuted the second trailer for the next Fantastic Beasts movie, known officially as Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore. This sequel continues with the Wizarding World series after the last movie (The Crimes of Grindelwald) from 2018. We featured the first trailer late last year. Dumbledore knows the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald is trying to seize control of the wizarding world. Unable to stop him alone, he entrusts Newt to lead a team of wizards, witches and one brave Muggle baker on a dangerous mission, where they encounter old & new beasts and clash with Grindelwald’s growing legion of followers. Jude Law stars in this one as a "younger" Albus Dumbledore, and Mads Mikkelsen co-stars as Gellert Grindelwald. The old cast is also back: Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Ezra Miller, Alison Sudol,...

J.K. Rowling and Pottermore are at it again. The website, which serves as a sort of expanded universe for “Harry Potter,” revealed a supposedly fun fact on Twitter yesterday: “Hogwarts didn’t always have bathrooms,” it said, answering a question that few, if any, had ever asked. “Before adopting Muggle plumbing methods in the eighteenth century, witches and wizards simply relieved themselves wherever they stood, and vanished the evidence.”
Don’t worry, there’s more: “What about the Chamber of Secrets, you ask? The new plumbing almost revealed the Chamber’s entrance,” reads a follow-up tweet, which links to the Pottermore page on said Chamber. Though this latest nugget of information didn’t come directly from Rowling, the author has earned a reputation in recent years for revealing information about the Wizarding World that wasn’t made explicit in the books — the most famous being that Dumbledore was gay.

Since the release of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, there have been a lot of questions surrounding one of the most famous wizarding families in the Harry Potter universe: the Dumbledores. While we've mainly had our eyes on the eldest Dumbledore sibling, Albus, events in Fantastic Beasts have shifted the story's focus to the youngest, most tragic member of the family and her mysterious "illness."
For anyone who needs a reminder about Ariana's heartbreaking story, here's a refresher: as a young, 6-year-old witch, Ariana was brutally attacked by three Muggle boys after they caught her doing magic. The attack left her traumatized and she tried to repress her magic, causing it to violently burst out of her in times of distress. Worried for her safety, her mother decided to keep her away from the rest of the world, only letting her outside of the house at the dead of night.

[Editor’s note: The following post contains spoilers for “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.”]
Many stories swirl though David Yates’ overstuffed “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald,” but most converge on one question: Just who is the orphaned Credence Barebone? In the first film, “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,” Ezra Miller entered the franchise as a strange wizard so filled with fear, anger, and repression that it transformed him into an Obscurial, the human host of an Obscurus (a magic parasite born of bad feelings and withheld magic). While his background was murky, it came as little surprise that the odd magic that Credence possessed would be intriguing to the evil Gellert Grindelwald.
By the time the first film concluded, Credence’s scary magic nearly destroyed New York City, and he was believed dead. What “The Crimes of Grindelwald” supposes is he didn’t die, but fled America to join a magic circus and continue his...

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Episode 6 Review
When last we saw Sabrina, she had arrived at the door of Ms. Wardwell's house determined to get answers about why the teacher was traipsing through the nightmares of the Spellman family. Ever the crafty liar, Wardwell spins a story about how Edward asked her to look after his daughter. A plausible yarn to be sure, especially when she adds the bit about her unrequited love for Eddie, and how he was planning to reform the Church of Night.
Having firmly bought Wardwell's bullshit, Sabrina moves on to the more pressing matter at hand,...
