I will be honest. Date films really don’t excite me. They are superficial and purposely pointless. But this one, I will give some slack too. It is funny (at times), cute (sparingly), cogent (when needed), and entertaining (when need be).
What gets our attention is the Indian family in the UK, so full of “tradition,” it seems they are a Bollywood breakaway community. The central character is Pia, a 30-year-old photographer whose younger sister is all set to marry.
And we all know what that means in the Indian community! The same is true of Indians in Britain. There is an early moment where Pia’s mother (standup comic Sindhu Vee playing a bohemian Maa) takes Pia to the bank to show her the family jewels which Pia gets only when she marries.
Pia tells her mother, in not so many words, to stuff the jewels in a place where the sun never shines.

Spoiler Alert: This post contains mild spoilers for Prime Video’s Picture This.
In the Prarthana Mohan-directed romantic comedy film Picture This, adapted from the Australian film Five Blind Dates by screenwriter Nikita Lalwani, the first snapshots of Simone Ashley’s lead character Pia Jaswani are quite chaotic.
Absorbed in her passion and profession — photography, Pia has forgotten that she has an important appointment with her mother Laxmi (Sindhu Vee) and Sonal (Anoushka Chadha). She stumbles to change clothes and rushes out the door only to loose one of her sandals in her haste to catch the bus, making quite the impression on her mom and sister, who called that she was running late.
“I think her chaos and clumsiness [were things] that I didn’t relate to as much because I think I’m much more of an organized, grounded person,” Ashley told Deadline in an interview the day after...

Are romantic comedies all the same or do they only subtly differ? Yes, with barely perceptible differences, romantic comedies seem to follow such a marked narrative path that they inevitably tend to look too much alike.
In this instance, we have a remake of the 2024 Australian film, transplanted to London, once again taking up the format of recent romantic comedies: a woman of a certain age (30) who hasn’t gotten married and sees time slowly passing by.
Starring Simone Ashley as Pia, a struggling photographer on the brink of personal and professional transformation, the film adopts a mystical approach to romance.
Directed by Prarthana Mohan and written by Nikita Lalwani, the film is based on the 2024 Australian romantic comedy “Five Blind Dates”. The production, a collaboration between Amazon MGM Studios and Ingenious Media, brings together a talented team including editor Gary Dollner and cinematographer David Higgs.

One year after the romantic comedy “Five Blind Dates” premiered on Prime Video, there’s already a remake landing on the same streamer. At first glance, that sort of redundancy might sound egregious, given both films are in the English language and feature the same general premise of a 29-year-old woman facing personal and professional crossroads. “Picture This,” however, more than proves it’s worth revisiting that subject. It’s rooted in the same heartrending themes about tapping into power through passion, but sets itself apart by exploring the story through the specificity of Indian culture. Sweet, silly and sincere, director Prarthana Mohan’s spin has a clear understanding of what makes its source material revelatory and resonant.
London-based photographer Pia (Simone Ashley) has always viewed life through an unconventional lens. She loves work and her independence. But her world is currently in chaos and about to get even more complicated.

"Are you ready to change your life?" Amazon Prime Video has unveiled the full trailer for a nice romantic comedy called Picture This, arriving for streaming worldwide in March in a few weeks. Made by director Prarthana Mohan (The Miseducation of Bindu) and shot mostly in the UK, this is also known as Five Blind Dates. In this heartfelt rom-com, struggling photographer Pia receives a prediction – true love and career success await her in the next five dates she goes on. With her sister's wedding looming and family playing matchmaker, her ex reappears, throwing both her love and professional life into chaos. Hmmm do you think she'll get back with her ex or not? Starring Simone Ashley, Hero Fiennes Tiffin, Sindhu Vee, Luke Fetherston, Nikesh Patel, Adil Ray, Anoushka Chadha, and Phil Dunster. This looks quite cliche & like every other romcom before it, but that's always what they're like and everyone still enjoys them anyway.

Prime Video is moving out of the Steel City, cancelling the comedy The Pradeeps of Pittsburgh after just one season, TVLine has confirmed.
The series — which was one of TVLine’s Hidden Gems You May Have Missed from last year’s TV — starred Naveen Andrews (Lost) and stand-up comic Sindhu Vee as the heads of the titular Pradeep family, whose move from India to the States leaves them in hot water with the authorities. “As told through hilarious (and often conflicting) flashbacks from an interrogation room, the Pradeeps quickly find themselves embroiled — romantically, personally, and professionally — with a polar-opposite neighborhood family,...

The majority of classic Christmas movies are American, but Britain has also produced a few holiday heartwarmers over the years. The most obvious example is Love Actually, which often features in conversations about the very best Christmas movies, but there are many more British Christmas movies, even if they don't all have big international audiences. Many of these Christmas movies feature famous faces from Hollywood blockbusters.
The worst Christmas movies are often accused of cheap sentimentality, but this is something that British movies tend to avoid, simply because there isn't the same abundance of Christmas content each year. The few that have any kind of lasting relevance tend to offer something different to American Christmas movies, either because they focus on British holiday traditions or because they have quirky British humor.

Richard Curtis has written many holiday films, from Blackadder's Christmas Carol to the 2023 Peacock film Genie. His most famous holiday film is the 2003 romantic-comedy Love Actually, which he wrote and directed. However, just because the film is famous does not mean it's beloved by all.
Richard Curtis helped with Netflix's new animated holiday film That Christmas. Knowing that he was involved with the project, the animators teased Curtis with a joke about Love Actually without Curtis knowing. The reference proposes that Love Actually is not be remembered so fondly as Richard Curtis might think.

Netflix's charming new Christmas movie, That Christmas, is now streaming and features a star-studded cast. One of several new Christmas movies in 2024, That Christmas tells the story of the fictional town, Wellington-on-Sea, which faces an unprecedented snowstorm just before Christmas Day. Not only does this pose significant difficulties for Santa Claus as he attempts to deliver the presents, but it also means that many of the children in town end up separated from their parents on Christmas Eve.
That Christmas was co-written by Richard Curtis, who also wrote and directed the Christmas classic Love Actually, one of the best Christmas movies for rom-com fans. That Christmas marks Curtis' very first animated feature film, and the movie's cast reflects a level of star power reminiscent of the cast of Love Actually. Here's every major character in That Christmas and who plays them.

Richard Curtis has carved out a space for himself as one of the greatest British screenwriters. His skills include layering multiple storylines, quirky ensembles, heartwarming romances, and sentimental events such as weddings and Christmas. His resume includes the likes of Four Weddings and a Funeral, Love Actually, and Bridget Jones. So, when I heard the screenwriter was delving into animation, I was instantly excited.

Richard Curtis returns to festive filmmaking with That Christmas, which streams on Netflix next month. Here’s the trailer.
Love it or loathe it, there is no denying that Richard Curtis’ Love Actually is a modern Christmas favourite for many. With its saccharine stories of love, lust and, in the case of Andrew Lincoln’s character – let’s be honest – stalking, the film has indelibly inked itself into the fabric of the festive season. It’s almost become a tradition to run an article contributing to the Love Actually debate – and who knows, one year we might even get around to it (we won’t – Ed).
Curtis returned to Christmas films last year with Genie, starring Melissa McCarthy and Paapa Essiedu, a big budget remake of his terrific 1991 television film Bernard And The Genie, which starred Alan Cumming, Lenny Henry and Rowan Atkinson – both films are available to stream on Sky Cinema.

The film features entwined stories about family and friends, love and loneliness and Santa Claus making a big mistake.
In her review, The Hollywood Reporter‘s Lovia Gyarkye praised the “charming animation” while adding that the movie “slyly avoids the usual mawkishness by grounding its whimsical story in the real and prickly emotions of life.

That Christmas begins with a familiar dilemma: It’s Christmas Eve and Santa must navigate treacherous weather while delivering his highly anticipated gifts.
We meet the benevolent legend, voiced here by Brian Cox, as he rides through a nasty winter storm of strong winds and low visibility. A terrible illness has left him with only one reindeer (Guz Khan) to pull the sleigh. Tensions between the two are so high that Santa, at one point, threatens to get a self-driving vehicle next winter. But while the odds are not in our hero’s favor, the happiness of children around the world — and especially those in the fictional English coastal town in which the narrative is set — depends on him overcoming them.

“The Pradeeps of Pittsburgh” creator and showrunner Vijal Patel said the dead rabbits that were placed on the Pradeeps’ doorstep and hunting trips with white Christian neighbors were all real-life events he’s been able to find humor in. In fact, it was those challenges that ultimately motivated him to create the Prime Video series in the first place.
“Dead rabbits, white hunting neighbors who are very Christian who brought us on hunting trips, or like, ‘Hey, let’s go hunting.’ I’m like, ‘I don’t f–ing hunt,’ [and they’re like,] ‘But it’ll be fun, like bro time,'” Patel shared with TheWrap in a press junket interview for the show, which premiered Thursday.
The hunting trip takes place in Episode 5: “Interrogation Log #5.” As Patel explained, “These challenges, the fact that everybody saw it as something horrible, and to me, sometimes it was kind of funny, or some kind...

The Pradeeps of Pittsburgh offers a unique take on the family sitcom with Rashomon-style serialized storytelling and a delightful disregard for the "rules" of traditional sitcoms. The series follows the Pradeep family, Indian immigrants seeking a new life in America. However, when their neighbors' house is mysteriously burned to the ground, a pair of federal agents show up and interrogate everyone involved in an effort to discover the truth, no matter how hilarious that truth may be.
While Lost star Naveen Andrews plays Mahesh, the patriarch of the Pradeep family, the true power, as usual, rests in the wife's hands. To this end, Sindhu Vee plays Sudha Pradeep; a brain surgeon in India, she's frustrated that she can't get her medical license in America, which puts stress on her marriage to Mahesh. Meanwhile, Sahana Srinivasan plays Bhanu, the eldest of the three Pradeep children. Bhanu, a boy-crazy teen eager to...

The Pradeeps of Pittsburgh, created by Vijal Patel, offers a fresh take on the family sitcom. Thanks to its unique, Rashomon-style storytelling and the creative freedom provided by Amazon Studios, the series feels fresh and edgy while remaining (more or less) family-friendly. The show follows an Indian family who move to America in search of a better life, but when their neighbors' house gets burned down under mysterious circumstances, a pair of federal agents (Romy Rosemont and Pete Holmes) conduct a series of interrogations with the family in an effort to discover the truth.
The Pradeep family consists of two parents (Lost star Naveen Andrews and Sindhu Vee), one daughter (Sahana Srinivasan), and two sons, Kamal and Vinod, played by Arjun Sriram and Ashwin Sakthivel, respectively. Kamal is the socially-awkward teen with a nigh-debilitating crush on his English teacher and Vinod is the irrepressibly adorable precocious youngest child who loves aboslutely everything about America,...

The Pradeeps of Pittsburgh follows an Indian family who packs up their lives and moves to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Loosely inspired by the real-life experiences of show creator Vijal Patel, The Pradeeps of Pittsburgh adds a unique serialized mystery twist. The show is told mainly in flashbacks, with the Pradeep family and their neighbors being interviewed by federal agents investigating a community-shaking arson crime.
The patriarch of the Pradeep clan, Mahesh, is played by Naveen Andrews, best known for his roles in The English Patient and the hit ABC drama Lost. Meanwhile, the neighbor family is led by Jimbo, played by My Name Is Earl and Mallrats veteran Ethan Suplee. While ostensibly the heads of their households, they serve at the convenience of their more powerful and headstrong wives, played by Sindhu Vee and Megan Hilty, respectively.
