Though Brendan Fraser has been claiming that his pretty much authentic experience on The Mummy set back in 1999 almost cost him his life, the franchise’ director doesn’t seem to believe in a big drama.
Throughout several years of its run, The Mummy has indeed proved that some dangers faced by its characters in the movies also got to be a big challenge for actors, and the franchise’s lead was the most frequent one to get trapped.
The story that has already become a true legend among The Mummy’s fans owes its existence to the hanging scene in the first film. The scene itself was supposed to show Brendan Fraser’s Rick being hanged, but the actor seems to have taken it way too seriously.
According to Fraser, he really wanted to make it all look real, so he “sort of took a few deep breaths, and kind of bared down.

This week’s episode of Below Deck opened with plenty of drama and a splash of romance as the crew prepared for a New Year’s Eve celebration on the high seas. Chef Nick Faces Fraser’s Critique The highlight of the episode featured Fraser Olender, who was quite shocked with Chef Nick’s food presentation skills. The drama began when Fraser noticed that Chef Nick’s dishes were lacking garnish and remarked, How do I not rudely say, ‘Are you going to garnish the plate?’ Fraser suggested that tomatoes or small berries could also be used to enhance the dish. The tension only escalated

Have you ever found yourself questioning the future success of an up-and-coming star, only to be later delightfully proven wrong? That was precisely the case with The Dark Knight star Christian Bale, who, after watching Matt Damon’s performance in Robert Mandel’s School Ties, harbored doubts about the latter’s prospects in Hollywood.
In a candid GQ interview, Bale reflected on a time when his own career seemed to be in a lull, revealing how he wasn’t quite convinced that Damon, despite his evident talent, would achieve fame. For Bale, the realization came quickly, but just “three days” later, while watching Good Will Hunting, it led him to the undeniable conclusion: talent combined with perseverance is a force to be reckoned with!

The time has come for the St. David crew to say good-bye on Below Deck after a season of so many ups and downs.
Season 11 of Below Deck will come to an end in less than a week, but don’t expect the drama or chaos to subside.
Thanks to a sneak peek from Bravo, we know that tensions are high as the crew pushes through the final charter.
In the new footage, things pick up right where they left off, with Captain Kerry Titheradge laying into Ben Willoughby and Kyle Stille for ignoring his cabin inspection orders.
Captain Kerry doesn’t hold back ripping them for being disrespectful, especially after the support he’s shown the guys all season.
Ben gets the brunt of it because he’s the bosun and in a leadership role. The reprimand from the captain doesn’t seem to faze him, though.

Dune: Part Two picks up directly following the events of its predecessor, with young Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) taken in by the Fremen after being marooned in the desert of Arrakis. However, cinematographer Greig Fraser was not content to merely continue where he left off. After winning an Oscar for the first film, Fraser shuffled his tool bag by adding the Alexa 65, an assortment of colorful new glass and an infrared sequence set in a gladiator arena on Giedi Prime. Vue Names Ian Fraser As Chair
Former Kwik Fit CEO Ian Fraser is the new Non-Exec Chairman of British cinema chain Vue. He succeeds Stella David, who is exiting to run gambling biz Entail. Fraser is currently working for infrastructure business M Group Services, but is best known as CEO of car servicing business Kwik Fit and COO of Orange UK. He takes up his new post on June 1, leading a non-exec board also including Katrina Cliffe, Henry Birch and Tom Singer and working alongside Vue CEO Tim Richards, CFO Alison Cornwell and COO Matt Eyre. Vue recently underwent a debt restructuring that saw about £50M ($63.5M) of debt converted into equity. This came after The Hollywood labor strikes, which hit cinema operators hard. However, the likes of Dune: Part Two and Kung Fu Panda 4 have helped the sector bounce back in 2024. UK-based Vue has well over 200 multiplexes in Europe and Taiwan.

Now that "Dune: Part Two" has crossed box office milestones and set up director Denis Villenueve to keep the spice flowing with a forthcoming "Dune 3," we can forget all about claims that Frank Herbert's original "Dune" novel was "unfilmable." We no longer need to worry that Villeneuve's adaptation would be too arcane and dense with sci-fi lore to appeal to mass audiences. We can simply take in his "Dune" duology for the breathtaking spectacle that it is.
The "Dune" discourse will likely veer toward the forthcoming threequel and the "Dune: Prophecy" series, set to hit Max this fall, but in the meantime, Villeneuve can simply revel in his latest blockbuster's success. The desert may grow cold at night, but for two intrepid adventurers and would-be fortune seekers, the evening is flush with excitement. Earlier in the day these heroes—rugged Rick O’Connell (Brendan Fraser) and effervescent Evelyn Carnahan (Rachel Weisz)—seemed to make a breakthrough on their grave-robbing exploits after they literally broke through the ceiling of a tomb, discovering a juicy mummy along the way. A little later, they got in a shootout with desert nomads and bedouin, which nonchalantly left a body count well into the double digits. And yet, none of that really seemed to matter in the grand scheme of things, either to the characters or the audience watching them. Nay, the most thrilling thing about this portion of Stephen Sommers’ The Mummy is just how buzzed they, and by extension we, are getting from the shared company… plus the bottle of 15-year-old Scotch they just swiped off a corpse.

The best period in recent cinema history? Back when Brendan Fraser was one of the biggest stars, without a doubt. There’s something special about this man’s action movies, and even decades later, rewatching them feels like returning home after a long trip to the cold outside world. Among Fraser’s certified classics, The Mummy is probably the most prominent — thanks to director Stephen Sommers, in particular.
For Sommers, those, too, were the good old days, but there’s one chapter of The Mummy’s story he hates — Alex Kurtzman’s 2017 remake with Tom Cruise. Why?
The Mummy Remake Disrespected Its Origins
Typically, when a new creator takes over someone else’s franchise, they reach out to them. There are many reasons to do so: to receive their blessing or insights, to share their vision, to keep them in the loop, or just out of common courtesy… No matter...

As Monsters and Critics previously reported, Captain Kerry Titheradge talked about the high crew turnover, indicating the season might be record-breaking.

However, as the final chapter begins, we can’t help but wonder about what all three Below Deck stars have said.
After all, only three people are left on Below Deck Season 11, and a familiar face has yet to join the St. David crew.
Here’s what we know about the Below Deck Season 11 crew turnover.

In the opening minutes of Denis Villeneuve's "Dune: Part Two," Harkonnen hunters are searching for native Fremen warriors on the surface of Arrakis during an eclipse. The hunters quickly realize the Fremen have called a sandworm to devour them, so they engage their anti-gravity jet packs and soar off the dunes up onto a huge rock formation to avoid being eaten. It's a simple-enough looking action -- we've seen jet packs on screen plenty of times before -- but something about the tangibility of the effect combined with Hans Zimmer's score, the desert location, and the stunning orange lighting that looks distinct from any other part of the film caused me to whisper "wow" in my theater seat. By the time the Harkonnens realize it's a trap and they're being picked off one by one, it's too late.

Nearly a decade ago, Oscar-winning cinematographer Greig Fraser was hanging out at one of Roger and James Deakins’ famous barbecues when he was introduced to a French-Canadian man he didn’t immediately recognize. But as soon as he put a face to the name “Denis Villeneuve,” he instantly called to mind two of the filmmaker’s critically acclaimed Canadian films, Polytechnique (2009) and Incendies (2010), as well as his American debut, Prisoners (2013), that he shot with the co-host of that day’s festivities, Roger Deakins. So Fraser and Villeneuve got to know each other that day, before going their separate ways for a few years.
During the intervening time period, Fraser photographed a handful of projects including the first Star Wars spinoff film, Rogue One (2016), as well as the first live-action Star Wars series in The Mandalorian. And then, in 2018, Villeneuve reached out regarding the Dp position on his forthcoming adaptation of...

Whenever we talk about The Mummy franchise, the first character that comes to our mind is Brendan Fraser’s Rick O’Connell, set in the 1920s Egypt, the film revolves around the adventurer and a librarian who unknowingly releases Imhotep, a centuries-old mummy. The group takes responsibility as they prevent the rise of the evil pharaoh, and stop him from destroying the world.
Brendan Fraser as Rick O’Connell
The 1999 film was a massive hit as it received two more sequels, making it one of the best trilogies out there. However, in 2017, fans were disappointed when they learned that instead of getting a 4th film featuring the original cast, the $1.4 billion franchise would get a reboot. Needless to say, the film was not liked by the fans of the original series. But now, the wait for The Mummy 4 featuring Fraser comes to an end as the film’s director gives an update.

Brendan Fraser has been seeing a revival in his career after he won the Oscar for his role in Darren Aronofsky’s The Whale. However, the actor will always be known for his role as Rick O’Connell in the horror adventure film The Mummy. Directed by Stephen Sommers, the film made him a bonafide star and turned the franchise into a huge asset for Universal Studios.
While Fraser shot to worldwide fame with The Mummy and its sequel The Mummy Returns, the latter also turned another upcoming actor into a star. Dwayne Johnson, who was a rising star at WWE at the time, made a cameo as the Scorpion King in The Mummy Returns, leading him to receive his own spinoff film a year later.

While Brendan Fraser was already an established actor in the ’90s, thanks to Encino Man and George of the Jungle, it was The Mummy franchise that propelled his career to new heights. However, working on the acclaimed adventure horror wasn’t all sunshine and roses for the Oscar winner, as his inclination to perform his own stunts would end up taking a toll on his health.

Brendan Fraser’s The Mummy would’ve had a different actor playing a crucial role in the film. During a recent interview, director Stephen Sommers revealed that he tried to cast a famous Star Wars actor in the film. The character of Ardeth Bay in the film was initially written for an older actor and Sommers tried to cast Darth Vader actor James Earl Jones in the role. The director also considered Roscoe Lee Browne in the role, but both actors were busy with other projects.
Oded Fehr played the role of Ardeth Bay in The Mummy franchise
Sommers then had to rewrite the character to be played by a much younger actor and cast Israeli actor Oded Fehr in the role. The character returned once again in the sequel film, The Mummy Returns, in 2001.

Even if you weren't that big a fan of the bleak blockbuster that was "Dune: Part Two" or the equally bleak whisper-shout fest that was its 2021 predecessor "Dune," you've got to admire the artistry involved. If you take even a brief look at the effort that went into it, conceiving and creating the planet Arrakis was nothing short of an ordeal. Director Denis Villeneuve wasn't going to let "Dune" or its sequel become yet another generic CGI-laden blockbuster affair. Instead, he wanted to convey a real sense of texture and reality, even while bringing to life such fantastical source matter as Frank Herbert's 1965 novel.
There's a reason the visual effects team won an Oscar for the first "Dune." Not only did they manage to convincingly create scale, but they also managed to achieve Villeneuve's aim of making the film feel authentic despite the sheer amount of digital and practical effects work involved.

There’s no question that Captain Kerry Titheradge has faced his fair share of crew drama on Below Deck Season 11.
Captain Kerry had plenty to deal with after stepping in to take over for Captain Lee Rosbach on the Og show.

However, after Fraser admitted he was all about it, the captain gave him the go-ahead to honor the request.

Directed by Stephen Sommers and starring Brendan Fraser as the swashbuckling Rick O'Connell, the film became a somewhat unexpected hit, so much so that it ended up being one of the highest-grossing films of 1999 overall. Critics were a bit mixed on it in its day. It was an action/adventure film, the likes of which Hollywood had released many times before. Tom Cruise is known for his action-hero persona in Hollywood. The actor has played many roles which has allowed him to flex his acting muscles as well as enabled him to perform death-defying stunts. He has headlined major franchises such as Mission: Impossible, and Top Gun, and has featured in one-off action blockbusters such as Knight and Day.
Cruise was also part of the disastrous The Mummy reboot in 2017, which was a box office failure and officially shut down the Dark Universe before it even began. However, before he came on board the ill-fated franchise, he was rumored to be in the running for the original films starring Brendan Fraser along with Brad Pitt as well. Director Stephen Sommer, however, debunked the rumors.

It’s been a couple of weeks since Jill’s charter ended, but as she prepares for her next reality TV gig, she’s bringing up Below Deck.

Chef Nick Tatlock has just arrived on Below Deck, but he’s already making waves with two crew members.
Bravo has given Below Deck fans a first look at the next episode.
We have to say the footage further proves that primary guest Alex and his group are seriously the nicest charter guests ever.
Alex has the sweetest chat with Captain Kerry Titheradge. It was such a pleasure to see after some of the guests have been awful on St. David.
While the guests are cool, more drama is brewing with the crew especially after Ben Willoughby called things off with Sunny Marquis.
Barbie Pascual tries to figure out her situation after her behavior toward Kyle Stille over fear of what her father will think.

Filmmaker Romain Gavras has announced his next project, and it is going to feature some major star power. The French storyteller will soon start work on Sacrifice, serving as a director and co-writer for the project. The cast for the movie that has been announced so far includes Chris Evans, Anya Taylor-Joy, Salma Hayek Pinault, and Brendan Fraser.
The news of the casting coup is gaining a lot of traction on social media. Netizens have expressed their enthusiasm over the prospect of seeing so many fan-favorite actors working on the same project. The movie, which is said to be something in the vein of a satire, will be Gavras’ first foray into English-language filmmaking. More names are expected to be added to the main cast in the coming days.

Exclusive: Chris Evans, Anya Taylor-Joy, Salma Hayek Pinault and Brendan Fraser will star in Sacrifice, a film co-written and to be directed by Romain Gavras. Like his last film Athena that premiered last Venice and was released on Netflix, Sacrifice has a similar combustible and propulsive anarchy coursing through the film.
This is closer to satire, but the script by Gavras and Will Arbery was strong enough to compel the leads to commit over the span of four days since the script was sent to talent. More actors will be set shortly, and I expect that the project — CAA Media Finance is selling the world with Rocket Science — won’t have a lot of territories left by the time buyers hit the Croisette. All the elements are there to launch Gavras as a major writer-director, here making his first English-language film.

The Mummy Box Office (Domestic): Here’s How Much It Earned On It Re-Release Opening Weekend(Photo Credit – IMDb)
Universal Pictures is bringing some classic movies back to the theatres in the United States. On Friday, the fan-favorite adventure movie The Mummy was re-released. People went into the theatres despite several other releases like Challengers and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire running there to boost the classic’s box office collections.
The movie will turn twenty-five this year and will always be one of the best movies about Egypt’s mummies in cinema history. Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz‘s chemistry captivated us and will always remain close to our hearts. The film did well at the box office back then and has managed to bring some loyal audience to the theatres.
Earlier this month reports about The Mummy re-releasing in the theatres were all over the media.

The Mummy: Resurrection trailer starring Keanu Reeves has many wondering if the film is fact or fiction.
In 1999, Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz thrilled and chilled audiences with The Mummy, an action-adventure-tinted take on the classic cinematic monster movie series of the same name.
The movie put Fraser on the map and was nothing less than a smash hit, spawning two sequels that were ultimately subject to diminishing returns. A Tom Cruise-focused reboot occurred in 2017 that many agree was not the film they were hoping for.

Captain Kerry has brought a whole new vibe to the Og show, as well as the yachting franchise as a whole.
Season 11 of Below Deck is nearing the end, and the closer it gets, the more Captain Kerry has earned fans’ respect.
As Monsters and Critics previously reported, Below Deck fans gave him mad props for how he handles crew conflict.
That was evident again when he didn’t give into Fraser Olender wanting to fire Barbie Pascual because his feelings were hurt.
Captain Kerry then defended Barbie’s work ethic, and he’s done it again on social media.

Below Deck Season 11 recently featured a crew day off that was filled with drama, not relaxation.
The St. David team was at a beach, but instead of fun in the sun, Barbie Pascual and Fraser Olender clashed.
That’s not all, either. Ben Willoughby got touchy-feely with newbie Paris Fields, making his boatmance Sunny Marquis jealous.
However, there was a whole other part to the crew day off that Below Deck viewers didn’t see.
Captain Kerry Titheradge and his team did a little tubing down a river, which appeared so much more fun than the time at the beach.
The footage didn’t make the Below Deck cut, but a few of the stars have shown fans what they missed.

Four months into 2024, and it’s already shaping up to be an exceptionally strong year for cinematography, with several standout films that represent the art form at its apex. Perhaps what’s most welcome about these films is their variety, not only in terms of genre and tone but also budget and position in the marketplace. From the studio system, we have Greig Fraser’s extraordinary work on “Dune: Part Two,” which doubles down on the ambition and tactile detail of Fraser’s work on its predecessor (for which he justly received an Academy Award) to create one of the most flat-out beautiful epics since the glory days of David Lean. From the world of low-budget, independent filmmaking, we have “I Saw the TV Glow,” where cinematographer Eric Yue designs a meticulous and expressive visual corollary for his protagonist’s inner state.
