Exclusive: In a highly competitive situation, Warner Bros has landed a deal with writer-director-producer Ryan Coogler and star Michael B. Jordan for an untitled new movie based on an original script by Coogler.
The project reunites Coogler and Jordan, who have collaborated on the Creed and Black Panther franchises and first made their mark together on the acclaimed Fruitvale Station. It also marks the second project of Coogler and Jordan’s that Warner Bros Film Group co-chairs and CEOs Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy have championed, following their greenlight of Creed III during their time at MGM.
Coogler will produce the new film alongside Zinzi Coogler and Sev Ohanian through their production company Proximity Media, with Rebecca Cho executive producing for the company.
Not much is known about the film other that it is a period genre pic and production is expected to start in April.

Ryan Coogler & Michael B. Jordan Genre Pic Has 3 Studios Vying In Year’s First Big Auction: The Dish
Exclusive: Looks like it’s down to three studios on the year’s hottest auction, the untitled genre thriller that will reunite writer-director Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan, Deadline hears. Sony, Warner Bros and Universal are battling it out for a deal that would allow Coogler to start production this summer. It also might portend a longer relationship for the hitmaker-with-heart filmmaker and his Proximity Media.
Here’s what I’ve heard. Coogler’s script is a period genre film that is a true star vehicle for Jordan, who has worked with the director on Fruitvale Station and the Creed and Black Panther franchises. The numbers being thrown around for worldwide rights are large but not out of line, given the commercial track record of both men. I’ve heard the film’s budget is around $90 million.
There also has been discussion of potential co-ownership of the IP, as...

Black Panther star Michael B Jordan has announced that his production company will be adopting the “inclusion rider” – a clause in contracts demanding projects have diverse casts and crews. His move comes in response to Frances McDormand’s powerful speech at Sunday’s Academy Awards, in which she encouraged the industry to back more stories and projects created by women.
“In support of the women & men who are leading this fight, I will be adopting the Inclusion Rider for all projects produced by my company Outlier Society,” Jordan announced on 7 March, posting an image of himself with Outlier Society’s head of production, Alana Mayo, and his agent, Phil Sun. “I’ve been privileged to work with powerful woman & persons of color throughout my career & it...

Michael B. Jordan has announced his company, Outlier Society Productions, will add an inclusion rider for all its future projects, Variety reports.
The announcement comes on the heels of Frances McDormand's powerful plea during her Oscars best actress acceptance speech last Sunday. "I have two words to leave you with tonight, ladies and gentleman," she said. "Inclusion rider." Inclusion riders are a stipulation that actors can add to their contracts, which would require a certain amount of diversity within a film's cast and crew. For example, the rider could...
