The following contains spoilers for High Potential, Season 1, Episode 13, "Let's Play."
Popular ABC crime drama High Potential recently wrapped its first season and the finale did not disappoint. The episode ended by setting up a villain story arc for Season 2.
The episode, titled "Let's Play," pushed the LAPD to its limits as Morgan and the team tried to catch a criminal mastermind. Due to several false leads, the wrong person ended up on their radar while the real bad guy (played by David Giuntoli) roamed free. Speaking to TVLine, showrunner Todd Harthan explained that the mystery character may be the focus in the next season. "I love a good serialized villain," he said. "I also love going into a Season 2 where there might be another surprise or two, so it’s a bit of an open box."

Amirah shared with ABC about season 2, “I’m really excited just to kind of see more about her upbringing and kind of what her life was like when it was just her and Morgan for those few years before her siblings came, and just really see how that has kind of shaped her into who she is now.

Just when we were starting to lose hope in the executives over at ABC, they came through with news that Morgan Gillory and High Potential aren’t going anywhere.
That’s right, you didn’t read that wrong. The ABC smash hit will return for more brain-boggling cases that only Kaitlin Olson can crack.
Fans of High Potential are likely jumping for joy as the series has been killing it without a single mention of renewal.
(Disney/Pamela Littky)
Luckily, we can all stop pretending like we didn’t know this show was going to get the green light for more.
That isn’t big talk either because, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter, “ABC says the pilot episode’s audience has grown to more than 30 million in the four months since it debuted.”
(Carlos Lopez-Calleja/Disney)
Again, as if we didn’t know High Potential would absolutely be returning...

ABC has handed an early Season 2 renewal to its breakout new crime drama High Potential. The light procedural starring Kaitlin Olson joins ABC’s flagship comedy Abbott Elementary in securing a spot on the network’s 2025-26 schedule. High Potential also joins the other standout 2024-25 freshman drama, CBS’ Matlock, in landing an early Season 2 renewal. Both were series originally ordered for last season but delayed due of the strikes.
The size of High Potential‘s Season 2 order is Tbd but is expected to be larger than Season 1, which consists of 13 episodes. Because of the show’s atypical production schedule and Olson’s commitment to her other series regular job on FX’s It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, filming on Season 1 had to wrap after its initial 13-episode order.

After living up to its, uh, potential through the first half of this season, ABC’s High Potential is getting a second.
The network has renewed the Kaitlin Olson-led drama for a second season in 2025-26. High Potential has been a breakout for ABC, ranking among the top first-year series of 2024-25 so far and drawing strong streaming numbers in addition to its on-air ratings.
The first two episodes of the series averaged better than 10 million cross-platform viewers after seven days, with streaming making up more than a third of that total. ABC says the pilot episode’s audience has grown to more than 30 million in the four months since it debuted.
High Potential has taken off since moving from 10 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays earlier this month, averaging 5.74 million same-day viewers (vs. 3.48 million at the later time last fall). The Jan. 7 installment drew a series high of 12.9 million viewers...

ScreenRant is proud to present an exclusive sneak peek of High Potential season 1, episode 10, "Chutes and Murders." Airing on ABC on Tuesday, January 21 at 9 p.m. Et, the new installment will see Morgan and Karadec investigate a particularly bizarre murder scene. The official synopsis reads: "A nanny is found bludgeoned to death in the park. Elsewhere, Morgan interferes when Elliot admits to not being invited to his classmate’s party."
The clip opens with Morgan trying to convince Karadec to taste her sandwich at the diner, while the detective emphasizes the importance of being discreet during their stakeout. In typical Morgan fashion, she counters his reprimand with humor, and he appears unamused. Before the banter can go any further, Karadec spots their suspect buying a newspaper across the street. Check out ScreenRant's full sneak peek above.

High Potential has been a big hit, with just two episodes of Season 1 set to air on ABC in the coming weeks. While a second season seems likely, series creator Drew Goddard says the show, led by It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia actor Kaitlin Olson, came with some creative challenges.
Speaking to Variety, Goddard explained that finding the right blend of humor and drama wasn't easy. "As all shows in Season 1 are, they're always challenging," he said. "And so it's been fun to see all the hard work our crew and cast to put into the show being rewarded. I've learned with shows like this, tone is everything. [Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for High Potential, Season 1 Episode 8, “Obsessed.”] High Potential is back and making way for a new dynamic between consultant Morgan (Kaitlin Olson) and LAPD Detective Karadec (Daniel Sunjata), who took on a fresh case in the midseason premiere episode, “Obsessed.” As fans will recall, a hostage situation at the police department put Morgan in a precarious position as her daughter Ava (Amirah J) was among the fellow hostages. Thankfully, the situation concluded with Ava safely escaping and Morgan helping to solve a case that would set everyone free. Although her new fling, Tom (Jd Pardo), was caught in the crosshairs and got shot, he lived to tell the tale. In the midseason premiere, Morgan tries following through on her promise to share a date with the police department’s janitor. But when Penny (Nona Parker Johnson) winds up on a beach, believed to be dead, Morgan is called in to work as she attempts ...

ABC’s latest triumph, High Potential, is finally returning for the second half of its pilot season. The police procedural has been on break since November, but High Potential episode 8 is nearly here. Though the drama immediately garnered a sizable following, High Potential’s impressive midseason ratings may attract a new crowd. In the time it’s been gone, however, details may have gone fuzzy or been forgotten entirely.
Whether a devout fan or just tuning in, a refresher might be necessary to get caught up before the next episode. There are plenty of reasons to watch High Potential, but being up-to-date on the first seven episodes may feel daunting. The last episode aired November 12, 2024, leaving nearly two months to rewatch what was available or turn to French predecessor Hpi as a replacement show for High Potential. In any case, there are a few key storylines to highlight ahead of High Potential’s return.

Ava finally got to see her mom in action on the fall finale of ABC’s High Potential, but she ended up getting a lot more than she bargained for — unless you consider an armed hostage situation to be just another day at the office.
“When I read the script for this episode, I was so excited, because I love doing more dramatic, heavier scenes,” actress Amirah J tells TVLine. “I find that more fun [than comedy], if you can believe that. I had also never worked in the precinct before, so it was fun being on those stages.”

Morgan and Karadec just took their relationship to the next level on the fall finale of ABC’s High Potential. And by that, we mean they’re now… deskmates! Why, what did you think we meant?
Tuesday’s episode put the entire precinct through the wringer when a group of armed vigilantes made hostages out of several key staffers — along with Ava, who was visiting her mother at work for the day. A far cry from the show’s usual lighthearted tone, this harrowing hour pushed Morgan beyond her mental and emotional limits to solve one of the departments’ mishandled cases.
