Marvel Studios‘ The Marvels is taking superhero fans higher, further, and faster thanks to the Captain Marvel sequel’s confidence, heart, slickly-directed action scenes, and more! Despite the film’s mediocre performance at the box office this past weekend, The Marvels is getting great word of mouth and boasts an Audience Score of 84% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. A highlight of the film is Iman Vellani’s silver screen debut as Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, teams up with Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) and Captain Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) to defeat Dar-Benn, a scorned leader of the Kree Empire. The flerken-filled sequel finds Kamala living her dream of fighting alongside her idol, Captain Marvel and leveling up as a valued member of the superhero community. I will spoil a thing or two about the film in the next paragraph, so steel yourselves or risk it all for some fantastic insight into...

“The Graduates,” which counts Chloé Zhao and John Cho among its executive producers and gets its world premiere at the Tribeca Festival, revolves around school shooting survivors who are unable to move on even one year later. It’s a compelling subject, for sure, but one on which no dramatic treatments have been nearly as astute or profound as what’s already been in the news.
Genevieve (Mina Sundwall of Netflix’s “Lost in Space”), who lost her boyfriend in a shooting and owes her teacher several assignments, doubts her test score is sufficient to get her into college and contemplates taking a gap year post-graduation. Ben (Alex R. Hibbert of “Moonlight”), who lost his friend and coworker at his part-time job, has transferred and quit the basketball team before dropping out of high school entirely. “Superheroes don’t need chaperones,” Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) huffs in the finale episode of Ms. Marvel.
Her older brother Aamir (Saagar Shaikh) has arrived on the scene at the final standoff against the Department of Damage Control to watch out for Kamala and her friends, at the request of their mother. It’s a line that serves its purpose in the scene, but also reminds the audience that despite her newfound cosmic powers and sleek superhero outfit, Kamala is still just a teenager. But it’s her authentic and unapologetic teendom that makes her who she is. Vellani’s effortless performance paints Kamala as a real teenager — one who many can recognize once in themselves, their friends and their family.
It’s in those interactions with her friends that Kamala truly embodies authentic teendom, as she maintains her awkward charm even in the direst of situations.

Kamala Khan is a superhero fan with an imagination, particularly when it comes to Captain Marvel; Kamala feels like she doesn’t fit in at school and sometimes even at home, that is until she gets superpowers like the heroes she’s looked up to.
Even though the wildly popular Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is full of comedy, heart, and emotion, one thing it is severely lacking in is more coming-of-age-style stories. Jon Watts’ Spider-Man: Homecoming was really the closest thing we ever got to a coming-of-age MCU film, and boy did it ever work.

The following contains major spoilers for the “Ms. Marvel” finale episode. Turn away now if you haven’t seen it.
The season finale of “Ms. Marvel” ended, per Marvel Cinematic Universe tradition, with a post-credits scene setting up a future project.
But as much fun as the brief moment was (and yes we’ll talk about it more below) it was vastly overshadowed by the episode’s final scene proper, which contained a huge reveal so important to the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that we’re honestly surprised this wasn’t the post-credit scene instead.
Literally, it changes everything for Kamala — even more than learning she’s part-Djinn did — and just as important, also seems to set up how Marvel is going to finally introduce, uh, a flurry of X-related puns into the MCU.

As Disney+ releases the six episodes of "Ms. Marvel" this summer, Popsugar has exclusive interviews with the cast and creators about making the show come to life. This week, Yasmeen Fletcher chats with Popsugar about episode two, "Crushed."
Yasmeen Fletcher really loves her "Ms. Marvel" character, Nakia. Before she knew the show was going to happen, a friend told her about the comics, explaining how it was all about a Pakistani American Muslim teenager with a similar culture to Fletcher's. "I immediately went to the comic-book store and picked up the first comic I could find and read through it and fell in love with it," she tells Popsugar.
When Fletcher heard rumors about a show adaptation, the actor told her manager she needed to be a part of it and she needed to play her favorite character, Nakia. "She's just so strong and she's kind of a badass," Fletcher says of her character.

Ms. Marvel Episode 2
Unlike Moon Knight, I didn’t really know anything about the character of Ms. Marvel going into this new Disney+ show, so getting to know Kamala Khan, and the unravelling of the mystery behind her powers, has been fascinating to me. I’ve been discovering a little bit more about her comics origin as the show has unfolded, and Marvel Studios seem to have substantially altered Kamala’s powers from the comics. They no longer appear to be rooted in Inhumans lore, and this week we found out that her great-grandmother’s bangle has awakened a power that was always lying dormant inside Kamala. She struggles to unwrap both the nature of it, and its role in her family escaping the violence of Partition, because her mother obviously has very negative feelings about her grandmother and what happened during that tumultuous time.

Marvel’s first Muslim-American teenage superhero is here.
The first two episodes of “Ms. Marvel” dropped on Disney+ on Wednesday June 8 and it’s already bound to be as successful as the platform’s growing slate of original series such as “WandaVision” and “Loki.”
Created by Bisha K. Ali, the series follows 16 year-old Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) who spends her days creating Avengers fan fiction and playing video games in Jersey City. But everything changes when she gains superpowers of her own.
In addition to Vellani, who makes her TV debut with this role, the series also stars Matt Lintz as her tech-savvy best friend Bruno; Yasmeen Fletcher as another friend Nakia; Saagar Shaikh as her brother; and Zenobia Shroff and Mohan Kapur as her mom and dad, respectively.

“Ms. Marvel”, a six-episode series, is the newest entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, also known as the MCU. Debuting on Disney+ on June 8th, the series is based on the very popular comic book of the same name. However, this series takes the story into a whole new and exciting frame. I was granted an early look at the first two episodes, and they were so intriguing I can’t wait to see what happens next. But more on that in a minute!
First, let’s set the scene to give you a feel for the show.

The best and worst thing I can say about Ms. Marvel is that there are long stretches where it’s easy to forget it’s a Marvel show.
You may have noticed that there have been a lot of movies and TV shows set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe over the last few years. Like, an amount equivalent to how big Ant-Man got during the airport fight in Captain America: Civil War. Most of these have been good. Some have been substantially better than that. And a few, like the...

It’s wild to realize while watching “Ms. Marvel” that the studio’s newest heroine would have been about 2 years old in 2008, the year “Iron Man” kick-started Marvel’s sprawling cinematic universe as we know it. Like the comic books that inspired it, the on-screen MCU has officially become old enough to spawn a literal new generation of superheroes who grew up watching the Avengers shoot through time and space and back again to stop the bad guys. Now, some 15 years later, they’re getting their own shows to do the same.

Shortly after Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani), the heroine of Disney+’s Ms. Marvel, gains her powers, her best friend Bruno (Matt Lintz) asks her what it feels like to wield them. She gazes with awe at her own right hand, sheathed in crystalline layers of blue light. “Like an idea come to life,” she answers.
It’s a tidy description of her gifts, which (in a departure from the comics, where she’s able to manipulate the size and shape of her body) allow her to solidify that light into shields or stepping stones or whatever else she can imagine. It’s also her tale in a nutshell. More than perhaps any other character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Kamala is the pure embodiment of fangirl wish fulfillment. It’s downright audacious that Marvel is now making TV shows about Avengers superfans, but despite that thoroughly meta invitation to egomania, real-life MCU diehards are in for a treat with “Ms. Marvel.”
First introduced in a 2013 comic by Sana Amanat, “Ms. Marvel” is the story of Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani), a nerdy New Jersey teen obsessed with Captain Marvel who ends up gaining her own superpowers and moniker. The Disney+ adaptation comes from creator and head writer Bisha K. Ali (executive story editor on “Loki“), with executive producers Adil and Bilall. Despite the young protagonist, “Ms. Marvel” is as universal as “Spider-Man” or “Hawkeye” or any Disney+ series before it.
Episode 1 introduces us to Kamala, content with her friends, family, and phantasmagoria as she daydreams through class and uploads YouTube videos about her favorite superhero, Captain Marvel. Her dearest ambition in life is to get her driver’s license...

“Ms. Marvel” is only the second Marvel Disney+ series to drop in 2022 and already it feels like a 180 degree heel-turn from the last one, “Moon Knight.” Where Oscar Isaac’s Mark Spector was moody and dark with barely any connection to the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe, “Ms. Marvel’s” main character Kamala Khan, played by the delightful Iman Vellani, is a bright, funny Avengers fangirl whose powers literally sparkle.
Ever since Kamala punched her way into comics in 2013 with her “embiggened” fist, the Pakistani-American teen has been one of the most popular original Marvel characters. Adapted to the screen by head writer Bisha K. Ali, not only is “Ms. Marvel” one of the most highly anticipated comic book adaptations to hit the streaming service, the character will make history as the first Muslim-American superhero show created for the franchise.

"If you save one life... you save the world." Disney has debuted another new 60-second "Destiny" trailer for a new Marvel Studios series Ms. Marvel, a sort of spin-off from Captain Marvel, similar to the Hawkeye series about a nerdy fan of the Avengers who ends up becoming a superhero herself. Ms. Marvel introduces us to Kamala Khan, played by Iman Vellani, a 16-year-old Muslim Pakistani-American from Jersey City, NJ who writes superhero fan fiction. She discovers she has her own polymorphous (shape-shifting) powers. The series cast also includes Aramis Knight as "Red Dagger", Saagar Shaikh, Rish Shah, Matt Lintz, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Yasmeen Fletcher, Laith Nakli, and Azhar Usman. You know, I honestly think this looks pretty dang good. Like Hawkeye, I wasn't expecting to be into it, but I thoroughly enjoyed that series and there were a few outstanding episodes. Ms. Marvel might just be worth a watch,...

Muslim-Pakistani teen Kamala Khan hails from New Jersey, is an avid gamer with an overactive imagination, and a fervent scribe of fan-fiction. Oh, and she also happens to have some crazy superpowers of her own once after exposure to a mist turns her into a polymorph and gives her body the ability to stretch in almost any way possible. Welcome Marvel Studios’ first Muslim superhero lead to the screen with “Ms. Marvel,” the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe series, which hits the Disney+ arrival June 8. Watch the trailer below.
In the footage below, we see Kamala Khan try to attempt a balance of high school, family life, the general pangs of teenagehood, and, of course, her budding superpowers. Kamala is also a particularly huge fan of Captain Marvel (aka Carol Danvers), meaning that this series serves up the kind of pretzel twist meta-dom that’s typical in the MCU.
