Due to deteriorating health, the actor was admitted at a private hospital in Vadavalli, Coimbatore where he breathed his last. He was 74. Kovai Senthil has appeared in supporting roles in many Tamil films. The actor was seen in Cs Amudhan’s 2010 spoof film Tamizh Padam, playing the role of Nattamai (village head). The director shared his memory of the scene on Twitter writing that Kovai Senthil had completed the shot in one take.
