Vishal Furia’s Chhorii 2 suffers from the same old problem of movie franchises trying to extend the storyline without having anything interesting or authentic to offer. The film followed the same pattern that it set in Part 1, the only difference being that instead of female feticide, the subject matter it dealt with this time around was child marriage. I mean, India as a country is a trove of stories. We are so rich when it comes to culture and literature, but for unknown reasons, the filmmakers just abstain from tapping into that treasure. Chhorii 2 had the potential of being a good film, but the mundane plot and the ineffective conflicts made the film an underwhelming affair. That said, let’s find out what happened in the film and if Sakshi was able to overcome the conflicts that came her way.

Directed by Vishal Furia and based on a Marathi film named Lapachhapi, Chhorii is one of the better horror films to come out of the Hindi film industry. The film personified the horrors of real life and wove them into a suspenseful narrative. That said, I didn’t like the way the plot unfolded and how things came to such a convenient end, maybe because the first half of the film really set my expectations high. I hope that Chhorii 2, which is all set to premiere this Friday, lives up to the hype and is able to meet the expectations of the audience. Now let’s quickly recap the events of Chhorii and find out what happened in the life of the protagonist.

Nushrratt Bharuccha, who impressed everyone with her powerful and haunting performance in Chhorii, is now gearing up to return as Sakshi in the sequel, Chhorii 2. But unlike most franchise films where actors are eager to reprise their roles, Nushrratt admitted that stepping into the eerie world of Sakshi once again wasn’t an easy choice. Additionally, the actress has spoken candidly that going back into that dark, emotionally heavy zone was not something she was immediately ready for.
“Four-Year Gap Helped Me Grow,” Says The Actress
In a recent interview with Ani, Nushrratt opened up about the emotional toll the first part took on her and why she needed distance from the character. When Bhavnani first wrote a horror story ‘Bearlike Man’ that was selected at Bifan (Korea), the largest genre festival in Asia, she found herself to be the first Indian woman director to be on the platform ever.
"We were practically non-existent in that space. Over the three decades I looked at, 9.9 per cent of directors were women. Horror comes with just 5.9 per cent of directors being women and Sci-fi – 2.8 per cent. I find this statistic offensive. Wench 2022 showcased 47 horror /sci-fi/fantasy films — 43 of them directed by women," she tells Ians.
Believing that India has not really explored horror in its truest potential or form, the filmmaker feels there is no better medium to highlight social change than this genre.
"And there are so many different ways to make them instead of the cliche knee-jerk horror that we all know of," she asserts.

Chhorii(Amazon Prime Video)
Starring Nushrratt Bharuccha, Mita Vashisht, Rajesh Jais, Saurabh Goyal
Directed by Vishal Furia
Chhorri ke peeche kya hai???!!!! An urgent message on female foeticide is tucked away in the ghagra folds of this unusual flawed yet interesting shiver-giver. Almost the entire film is set in deserted yawning stretch of a sugarcane field where the silences are punctured by eerie sounds of little children with big wide eyes playing and laughing in a deceptive show of normalcy.
As this low-budget mayhem-drama tells us, quiet places secrete deep disturbances. Right. But we don’t really get to penetrate the heart of the horror. Director Vishal Furia’s faithful adaptation of the Marathi film Lapachhapi is unable to convey the fearful ambience of the original.

Nushrratt Bharuccha has shown she can play characters in a wide variety of film genres in films like Love Sex Aur Dholka, Pyaar Ka Punchnama, Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, Dream Girl, and Chhalaang. She showcases this once again with her newest release by playing the lead role in the paranormal horror film Chhorii. In our recent interview, Nushrratt revealed that Chhorii was genuinely exhausting but also very artistically satisfying, but you can hear more on that in a few lines.
Directed by Vishal Furia, Chhorii, is a remake of the Marathi film Lapachhapi tells a haunting tale of a modern, young couple, Sakshi and Hemant, based in the heartland of India. Sakshi, who is eight months pregnant, and Hemant are forced by challenging life circumstances to seek shelter in an isolated house surrounded by large sugarcane fields. The house is inhabited by an old couple who seem to know more than they tell.

Over-reliance on a spooky score and clunky pacing mean that Vishal Furia’s remake of his own film simply reiterates the original’s dubious talking points
Vishal Furia’s long-awaited Hindi remake of his Marathi-language horror Lapachhapi from 2017 stays true to the original’s spirit, marrying the psychological uncertainties of pregnancy with the eerie atmosphere of rural isolation. Buried in the middle of a vast sugarcane field where one can get lost among the towering reeds is a simple house that doubles as a temporary hideaway from debt collectors for young city couple Hemant (Saurabh Goyal) and eight-month pregnant Sakshi (Nushrratt Bharuccha)
The place actually belongs to their chauffeur and his wife, whose initial hospitality goes along with gendered prejudices. They insist, for example, that Sakshi should eat only after her husband has finished his meal. As strange visions and noises soon abound, the refuge becomes a site of horror,...
