In a world where time is marked by relentless technological advancement and rapid cultural shifts, Aachar and Co. takes us on a heartwarming journey back to the simpler times of the 1960s and 1970s in old Bangalore. Directed by Sindhu Sreenivasa Murthy, known for her comedic flair, and co-written with her fellow comedian friend Kanan Gill, the film is a lighthearted dramedy that taps into the essence of familial bonds, dreams, and the challenges of breaking societal molds.
Set against the backdrop of a bygone era, Aachar and Co. introduces us to the Aachar family, where Madhusudhan Aachar, a civil engineer with a prestigious government job, presides as the patriarch. His enviable job and position have given him a big, beautiful house, an Ambassador car, domestic workers, and a driver. His wife, Savithri, and their ten children—three sons and seven daughters—collectively represent the era’s quintessential family structure.

Review‘Aachar & Co.’ sounds rather enterprising on paper, but the film’s coming-of-age journey takes place in such a scattered, slapdash manner that you don’t really spot a character arc.Courtesy: YouTube / Prk AudioAachar & Co. is one of those films whose climax arrives just when you feel that things are starting to get exciting. In the film, we see Suma evolve from a wide-eyed daydreamer who only wishes to be transported to London by her future husband, to a well-rounded person who starts to lead her family by example. As the film traces this coming-of-age journey that spans nearly a decade, the setting of 1960s Bengaluru helps us a great deal to realise its essence. As someone born into a family of 10 siblings, Suma feels lost in the crowd, and the fact that she is the least educated member (not even a “matric pass”) doesn't help her cause either.

Tollywood Produced by Raj and Dk, the Telugu comedy directed by Praveen Kandregula premiered on Netflix on May 14.Jahnavi ReddyScreenshot/Netflix Cinema Bandi is set in a Rayalaseema village which has its share of film buffs, from the guy who watches Mahesh Babu films in theatres five times, to the man who wants a haircut like Ram Charan or Allu Arjun. When a bunch of people from the village set out to make their own film, they inevitably derive from standard Tollywood tropes and aesthetics, but there’s no fascination bordering on reverence for the world of movies. Once they get their hands on an expensive camera — which they believe is similar to the ones used for Mahesh Babu and Pawan Kalyan’s movies — they are convinced that making a film would be a breeze. They never doubt if they would find good writers or actors around them. They don...

ReviewThe funniest moments in the film have to do with language confusion. Sowmya RajendranScrewball comedies when done right can be utterly delightful. Now streaming on Amazon Prime Video, French Biriyani, directed by Pannaga Bharana and written by Avinash Balekkala, has a quirky premise that promises to entertain. What better way to showcase the chaos that is Bengaluru – with its many languages, traffic problems, and protests – than through the eyes of a harried outsider? A French man named Simon (Sal Yusuf) lands in a soup only because his name sounds like 'saaman' (and the possible innuendos that can be conjured out of this have a place in the narrative too). He's hoping to attend a conference in Bengaluru but ends up with auto driver Asgar (Danish Sait) who takes him for a ride through the city that he never asked for. Danish Sait has a special place in the hearts of...

The Sundance Film institute has released the line-up of film for the 2016 Sundance Film Festival. Going to Sundance is one of my favorite events of the year. I love going because you never know what kind of movies you're going to see. Sometimes they are great films that amaze and entertain, other times they completely suck ass, but that's all part of the fun of going to the festival. It's an awesome experience for any hardcore movie geek, and if you ever get a chance to go, you need to.
The event takes place in Park City, Utah next year from January 21st to the 31st. It looks like there's a great line-up of movies at next year's event. My favorite portion of the event is the Midnight section because it deals more with geeky genre type movies, but I also enjoy the various sections of other line-ups.
