Now You See Me is arguably one of the most underrated heist-thriller franchises of the past decade: despite its high production budgets, star-studded ensemble cast, and absolute commercial success at the global box office, the films have barely been mentioned in the media and on social media platforms nearly 8 years after the release of the second installment.
However, from 2020 to 2023, Lionsgate has been actively releasing information about the upcoming sequel, teasing fans of the film series with updates on the production process. And now, just over a week ago, the media giant announced that Now You See Me 3 is already in post-production, and with that came exciting details about the upcoming cast.
What makes this news so exciting is that Lionsgate will be correcting a mistake that disappointed audiences with the release of the second film, as one of the central and certainly incredibly memorable characters was not able to reprise their role.

Now You See Me 3 is gearing up to roll cameras this year and Dominic Sessa, Justice Smith and Ariana Greenblatt have joined the cast.
Now You See Me 3 is coming out way sooner rather than later as Jesse Eisenberg confirmed that cameras would roll sometime this year. The sequel has been in the works for years, but it seems that it’s truly happening now.
The Hollywood Reporter reports that Justice Smith, Dominic Sessa and Ariana Greenblatt have joined the ensemble cast. Their roles, like the film’s plot, is still being kept under wraps, but one would imagine they might play a new generation of magicians.
Eisenberg seems to be on board and the previous films’ cast, Dave Franco, Isla Fisher, Woody Harrelson and Morgan Freeman are also expected to reprise their roles, but this hasn’t been officially confirmed yet.
Now You See Me 3 will be released by Lionsgate.

Ariana Greenblatt, who appeared opposite Margot Robbie in last year’s Barbie, will be pulling a rabbit out of her hat.
The actress is joining the ensemble cast of Now You See Me 3, Lionsgate’s long-in-the-works installment of its heist caper thrillers.
Many of the original cast — Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher and Dave Franco — are expected to return. The original movies also starred Morgan Freeman and Mark Ruffalo, although it’s not clear if those two will return.
Ruben Fleischer is directing the movie, which garnered a mention last week at Lionsgate’s presentation at CinemaCon.
Lionsgate had no comment on the casting, and it’s unclear who wrote the script. Seth Grahame-Smith, the genre scribe behind The Lego Batman Movie and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, and Eric Warren have penned drafts over the years.

With the success of video game adaptations like the iconic The Last of Us and the recently released Prime Video original series Fallout, the upcoming Borderlands film is being expected to continue this trend of excellent adaptation for the fandom of video game culture.
And it seems like Ariana Greenblatt, one of the lead stars in the film, prepared for her role of Tiny Tina with inspiration from none other than Margot Robbie.

We’re leaving Las Vegas.
CinemaCon 2024 is over — time for studios to go out and prove their pitches at the box office. Based on what we saw, or really what we didn’t see, that will be an uphill battle.
First, let’s take a moment to appreciate the folks and films that showed up. Arguably, the biggest star to attend CinemaCon was Kevin Costner. The cynical point of view? He was pitching not one but two “Horizon” films to theater owners — and simultaneously pitching third and fourth installments to Warner Bros. Plus, Costner received a trophy (the CinemaCon Visionary Award), for which WB execs shooed him offstage just to call him back up. Kinda silly. Speaking of WB execs and no-shows, if David Zaslav was in town, he didn’t come on stage.
Jeff Goldblum did, as did his fellow “Wicked” co-stars Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, and Michelle Yeoh.

After Dennis Quaid accepted CinemaCon’s cinema icon award during the closing night Big Screen Achievement Awards, host Kevin Frazier surprised the veteran actor with a birthday cake as the crowd inside the Colosseum sang “Happy Birthday.”
Quaid turned 70 on Tuesday, and it was a fitting celebration for the star, who was feeling particularly reflective about where he’s at in his life and career at this chapter. “I’m on my sixth decade in this wonderful business,” Quaid said in accepting the honor, which arrives as he has The Long Game in theaters this weekend and the release of Reagan on the horizon. “To tell you the truth, I really do feel like I have more fun. I enjoy it now more than when I was young and hungry — not trying to get anywhere. I do it because I love it and that makes me kind of the luckiest guy on Earth,...

Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong’o said that when word came her way that she’d been selected to receive CinemaCon’s star of the year award during the closing night Big Screen Achievement Awards, it led her to ponder what cinema has meant to her.
“One of my strongest memories from my adolescence came to mind,” said the 41-year-old actress while accepting the trophy inside the Colosseum at Caesars Palace on Thursday night. “My very first date was going to see a movie at the cinema in Nairobi, Kenya, where I grew up. I was 16. Not only was I going out with this boy I liked for the first time, but I would be watching my crush Leonardo DiCaprio in none other than Titanic.
Nyong’o, honored for her upcoming turn in Paramount Pictures’ thriller A Quiet Place: Day One, said she was beyond excited to see DiCaprio in the 1997 disaster epic from James Cameron.

Eli Roth turned adapting the video game “Borderlands” into a mini film school for its young star Ariana Greenblatt.
Roth had Oscar winners Cate Blanchett and Jamie Lee Curtis at his disposal in the space-set sci-fi adventure film, but it was “Barbie” breakout Greenblatt (also of “65” and “In the Heights”) who he says stole the feature. Roth called Greenblatt’s performance in his new film reminiscent of Natalie Portman’s turn in Luc Besson’s controversial crime thriller “Leon: The Professional.”
Pretty good company there.
As it turns out, “Leon: The Professional” is one of Greenblatt’s faves. The young actress (16 now, 13 when she auditioned for “Borderlands,” actually has quite the film palate considering her age. Especially now.
Roth assigned Greenblatt “My Dinner with Andre” to prepare for her “Borderlands” role — “just to fuck with her,” he added. But she dutifully watched it — and as Roth recalled, Greenblatt really dug “the dessert scene.

Over the past few years, one Hollywood mystery has been how the video game adaptation Borderlands managed to attract such a stacked A-list cast led by Cate Blanchett, given its raunchy, violent nature. At CinemaCon on Wednesday, director Eli Roth said the key to landing Blanchett, whom he said he decided to call on a whim, was not thinking she’d take the role.
“People love seeing you with a conductor stick, and I’m going to throw a flame thrower in her hand,” he recalled telling Blanchett, referencing her acclaimed work in Tár. To his surprise, Blanchett said the apocalyptic feature Escape From New York was among her favorite movies, and she was glad to join the project. From there, the rest fell into place.
Blanchett stars as Lilith, the leader of a crew of outlaws on a mission to retrieve treasure from a vault hidden on the planet.

Even Eli Roth can’t believe that two-time Oscar winner Cate Blanchett was willing to learn to twirl guns and shoot baddies in “Borderlands,” the director’s gonzo adaptation of the popular video game.
Roth noted that since people loved seeing Blanchett wield a baton in “Tár,” where she portrayed a fictional world-famous conductor embroiled in controversy, the filmmaker said he might as well “put a flamethrower in her hand.”
In “Borderlands,” Blanchett sports a fiery red bob and is surrounded by the starry ensemble of Kevin Hart, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jack Black and “Barbie” breakout Ariana Greenblatt. The story follows Blanchett as Lilith, an infamous outlaw with a mysterious past. She reluctantly returns to her home planet of Pandora and forms an unexpected alliance to find the missing daughter of Atlas.

"Borderlands" is one of the most popular video game franchises of the 2000s. Now, it's becoming a movie, with Lionsgate hoping to turn it into a franchise for the big screen. Directed by Eli Roth, this video game adaptation has been in the works for a long, long time, but it's finally hitting theaters this summer. That being the case, the studio brought some new footage from the film to this year's CinemaCon in Las Vegas, and I was on hand to see what Roth cooked up.
One thing the movie has going for it is a stellar A-list cast led by Cate Blanchett ("Thor: Ragnarok") as Lilith. The ensemble also includes Jack Black ("The Super Mario Bros. Movie"), Kevin Hart ("Lift"), Jamie Lee Curtis ("Halloween"), Ariana Greenblatt ("Barbie"), Florian Munteanu ("Creed II"), and Edgar Ramirez ("Yes Day"). CinemaCon kicks off today in Las Vegas, and as the official convention of the National Association of Theater Owners gets underway, organizers have added another honoree to the roster: Geena Davis.
The Oscar winner will be feted with the Viola Davis Trailblazer Award during the Big Screen Achievement Awards inside the Colosseum at Caesars Palace on April 11.
“Geena Davis exemplifies the true essence of a trailblazer in Hollywood for not only her remarkable film career, but also in her tireless advocacy championing underrepresented voices in film and other forms of media,” said CinemaCon managing director Mitch Neuhauser. The trophy will be the second to carry the name after Davis was presented with the honor ahead of the release of The Woman King in 2022.
Geena Davis will have other duties in Las Vegas. Her Bentonville Film Festival has partnered with the Coca-Cola Refreshing Films program in a shared mission of supporting next generation creative talent.

Oscar winner Cate Blanchett is lending her voice to a Netflix nature docuseries highlighting species surviving amid the climate crisis.
Four-part Netflix series “Our Living World” hails from Freeborne Media and Wild Space productions, the Emmy-winning team behind “Our Great National Parks.” The series uses cinematic wildlife photography, macro close-ups, underwater tapestries, and digital effects to capture the tallest and oldest tree in the forest to the smallest egg in a salmon’s spawning pool and every organism in between. Cuttlefish, beavers, rhinos, crabs, dragonflies, flying foxes, and more are featured in nature action shots.
The official synopsis reads: “Spanning continents and oceans, fueled by wind and water and fire, this network allows the densest forests to impact the coldest glaciers, and the deepest oceans to feed the hottest deserts. “My hairstylist told me you haven’t made it until you’ve gone to an awards show in a [Mercedes-Benz] Sprinter van,” Ali Wong noted on the SAG Awards red carpet Saturday night at Shrine Auditorium — and one look at her Iris van Herpen gown, with its opulent sleeves and feather detailing that stretched far behond her shoulders, immediately explained the need for transportation that allows haute couture to live its life without fear of being crushed or damaged. Anyone who wondered how that grand feather detail would fare in the audience needn’t have worried, as it quickly became clear both feathers and sleeves were removable when Wong arrived onstage to pick up her Screen Actors Guild Award as best actress in a TV movie or miniseries for Beef.

Borderlands is branching out to Hollywood in the form of a connected film franchise akin to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Inspired by the success of a shared universe type of series and the recent surge of somewhat successful video games to live-action adaptations, Gearbox founder Randy Pitchford is optimistic for the future stating that the upcoming film based on their IP will be the first of many.
Adapting stories into another medium offers the opportunity to expand the original narrative and explore the world in more depth. This transition allows the developers to concentrate on specific aspects that they originally intended. The world of Borderlands is vast enough to benefit from this kind of storytelling, which can include new pieces of lore, such as the introduction of certain missing characters. The possibilities are endless!

The upcoming video game adaptation Borderlands has debuted an electric first trailer highlighting the movie’s stylish visuals and star-studded cast. But some fans argue director Eli Roth’s involvement has negatively impacted the project, despite acclaimed screenwriter Craig Mazin penning the script.
Borderlands stars Cate Blanchett as an alien outlaw named Lilith who returns home to Pandora seeking a legendary vault of treasures. She assembles a ragtag crew for the dangerous mission, including Kevin Hart, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Jack Black. Early footage wows with cel-shaded cinematography resembling the Borderlands games and offbeat humor. So why are fans worried about Roth’s contribution as director?

Eli Roth is best known for gritty horror films like Hostel and The Green Inferno. Borderlands mark new territory for the director within sci-fi and effects-heavy worldbuilding.

Cate Blanchett will play the lead, Lilith, in the film adaptation of the Western-themed looter-shooter game, Borderlands. The trailer for the film dropped on Wednesday and fans couldn’t help but notice the similarity to James Gunn’s films. While the cast appears to be promising, there were several behind-the-scene issues with the film which fans doubt will affect the film’s quality. One particular promotion in the trailer for the producer of the film also irked the fans.

The Borderlands video game franchise has been a smash success since its debut back in 2009.
And now, the saga of the magical Siren Lilith and her quest for galactic wealth is making its way to the big screen.
The film, directed by Hostel and Cabin Fever auteur Eli Roth, won't premiere until August 9, but we have a good sense of the vibe thanks to a trailer released by Lionsgate today.
Fresh off her acclaimed performance in Tár, Cate Blanchett plays a very different kind of stoic badass in her first foray into the world of video game adaptations.
As Lilith, Blanchett heads up a band of interplanetary misfits determined to retrieve a massive treasure from a “dumpster fire of a world.”
The crew includes Kevin Hart as a soldier named Roland and Jamie Lee Curtis as the eccentric researcher Tannis.
Ariana Greenblatt, Florian Munteanu, Haley Bennett, and Edgar Ramirez round out the cast.
